Official May 17th Alaska Cruise Thread!

I just got back from being out of town at a family event for the last four days... now it's time to focus on A-L-A-S-K-A! Yay! :cool1:

Catching up on a few posts here....

...I have one bag packed and ready, pirate hats, fish extenders, umbrella, small fan for sleeping, popcorn for the movie (i don't like what they have) hmmm no room left. Next week we will start on the rest.
When we went on the Wonder in November I packed all my "extras" (i.e. Door decorating, pirate night, movie candy, etc...) in my carry-on. I was impressed how much I could get in there by packing it well. 1/2 of it did not come home so I was replaced with souvenirs. :goodvibes

Anyone have the list of movies they are playing handy? I don't feel like going through 30 pages of posts to find it again! Meg wants to know! She is totally playing catch up now!
How exciting for her (and you) now that she knows! Such fun!
You can call the DCL number and there's an option that lists the movies.
One's I remember:
Tangled
TRON
African Cats
Secretariat
Toy Story 3... maybe?
Gnomeo and Juliet
Pirates 4... most likely
and some others. :goodvibes

Thanks for putting the FE into a bar code. Love having it on my phone for shopping! :)

Hi Everyone
I am so super new to this discussion post stuff so mind me.
Welcome aboard!

How would I get DisneyDreams room number. I read where she didn't want it posted, but not sure what "see pm" means. Where would I find her pm? Thanks so much.
Melissa
You (and everyone doing FEs should have received a PM from me. The comments posted were correct. Since anyone on earth can read these boards, I do not post personally identifying information - or too specific location information (like my address of where I'll be staying for a week).

I'm new to this forum. I found this forum when I was googling Port web cam because I saw Disney wonder this morning from my office window. She is GORGEOUS. My daughter (4), my dad and I will be on Wonder to Alaska on May 17th. Can't wait.

Anyone else watching the Wonder on the web cam right now? Looks like she is 10 min late from leaving Vancouver so far. Well she is now gone from Vancouver 5:35 and on her way North:) Dose anyone know if there is a Bridge/Bow cam on the Wonder that can be viewed via the net?

I watched!! It occurred to me that my children on the east coast could watch us pull away on our cruise in two weeks!! Sent them the link and encouraged them to bookmark it! I am really getting too excited....still have much to do. But I am looking forward to this vacation, we really have earned it!

:thumbsup2Thanks for the welcome

I saw the Ship in Port in Vancouver this afternoon and could hardly keep it a secret as I had my son with me and as we passed by Canada Place he said "wow look at all those lucky people on the ship" and I desperatly wanted to say just wait two weeks but I zipped my lips and secretly did a happy dance.:dance3:

The Wonder is heading around Vancouver Island and not going up the Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and the mainland:confused3:confused3:confused3 Sure hope that this changes! I really enjoy watching the happenings of the inside passage on the first sea day out of Vancouver:sad1:

Can't wait to get on board and meet everyone. Just 2 more weeks. We are already planning our next cruise on the Dream in Sept.

Does anyone from Canada know where the best place to exchange our currency. We are planning a short stay in Vancouver before and after the cruise and will need some cash

I couldn't get on the boards yesterday :confused3 and missed everyone! I've been reading the blogs that were shared and we are getting so excited...less than 2 weeks...we fly to Vancouver on Monday.

Welcome to the new families...

You can use US cash all over Vancouver easily, or if you want to get canadian cash, just take your bank card and get some out at any bank machine. The US/Canadian machines are compatiable and you will get a decent rate. Usually your hotel will exchange a small amount for you too. And we have banks on every corner!
Avoid the 'currency exchange' places in the airport -bad rates!

Is it true you can't wear jeans to casual nights for dinner?

They have never allowed jeans at dinner I don't think - but people still wear them. I think as long as they are decent and not full of holes and rips no one cares. I personally don't care what people wear to dinner, but some get very uppity about it.
I think a nice pair of jeans and a polo type shirt is just fine (other than formal nights).

Wow just a few days left of work then it is off to vacation. It is so hard to be at work all I want to think about is the trip and all the wonderful things that we get to do.
I feel like a kid in the back seat of a car.... are we there yet?

Please google VBCE (Vancouver Bullion & Currency Exchange), their rates are pretty good.

Enjoy your stay in Vancouver.

Use your Capital One card... they are the only credit cards that I know of that does not charge any currency exchange fee for purchases.

Word is DCL changed their route :(

I have read a LOT of posts on DIS about this since last night. I just called DCL to ask. The person I spoke with said he shows it is indeed an inside passage cruise and he had not heard anything about taking the outside route. He put me on hold to talk with a supervisor. He then returned and said that she also had not heard about the Wonder taking the outside route. He pointed out that if indeed the Captain chose to change the route for whatever necessary reasons, "we" (i.e. the department that answers calls at DCL from us when we call) would not be the ones that would be notified. He said they were going to try to get more information about what I shared is being reported on message boards (not taking the Inside Passage) and perhaps they would have more information later today.

FWIW,
Dreams

I like the idea of doing the outside on the way out and then the inside on the way home. This is the way that it was set up a year ago when I booked. I like the idea of two different ways and different things to look at.
