Official May 17th Alaska Cruise Thread!

I personally do not care what people wear to dinner. This is our 3rd Disney cruise and our understanding was, that in the restaraunts (the 3 rotational) dining places you should not wear jeans. Therefore we do not, however I have seen jeans on both of our previous cruises.

Wow just a few days left of work then it is off to vacation. It is so hard to be at work all I want to think about is the trip and all the wonderful things that we get to do.
I feel like a kid in the back seat of a car.... are we there yet?

Kris,
I am so with you....it is soooo hard to focus at work. I just want to sneak off and do trip prep for the next ten days :scared1: Witness the fact that I am sneaking a peek at the board during work hours :rolleyes1

I am ready for it to be here, but I also don't want it to fly by either. I want to relax and enjoy the whole thing!!

I'm new to this forum. I found this forum when I was googling Port web cam because I saw Disney wonder this morning from my office window.

Can I swap offices with you please? :rotfl2:

I have read a LOT of posts on DIS about this since last night. I just called DCL to ask. The person I spoke with said he shows it is indeed an inside passage cruise and he had not heard anything about taking the outside route. He put me on hold to talk with a supervisor. He then returned and said that she also had not heard about the Wonder taking the outside route. He pointed out that if indeed the Captain chose to change the route for whatever necessary reasons, "we" (i.e. the department that answers calls at DCL from us when we call) would not be the ones that would be notified. He said they were going to try to get more information about what I shared is being reported on message boards (not taking the Inside Passage) and perhaps they would have more information later today.

FWIW,
Dreams

If you hear any more information about the route would you please be kind enough to post it on this thread. I only spotted it in a blog just now where it said they were going up the west side of Vancouver Island, and I came on here to catch up with the thread and see if it was mentioned.

I've checked on DCL's website and it clearly shows our cruise "Itinerary A" leaving Vancouver and heading up the east side of Vancouver Island. Whilst I appreciate it is always the Captain's decision, it doesn't bode well if they're not sailing the Inside Passage on the very first cruise. :sad2:

A week from now we will have finished work and will officially be on vacation!:banana::banana:

We went to the city (San Francisco) and saw the Wonder on Saturday. We even had a chance to chat with a family on board the ship and had great things to say about their experience so far.

Guess who just booked her airfare?

:cool1:

Ahhh! We're going on an Alaskan cruise! Scratch that.

We're going on a Disney Alaskan cruise! :dance3:

I can't wait to get back onboard the Wonder - and see some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth!

I will update anything I hear. As I mentioned above, I just called the main DCL number and asked.

I like the idea of doing the outside on the way out and then the inside on the way home. This is the way that it was set up a year ago when I booked. I like the idea of two different ways and different things to look at.

Well, except that the inside is much smoother seas and much more scenic. It's a giant difference. There is quite a bit of discussion about this on various threads on the main cruise board as inside passage a much preferred route for cruisers generally speaking.

- Dreams (whose DH took her surprise shopping last night for binoculars!)

I am wondering if the inside passage is still too icy in some areas??? We haven't had any amazing warm weather yet.

Thanks eveyone who gave me advise on exchanging currency in Vancouver. A bit of good advise about the Capital One Card. Will check with my Disney card too.

Can't wait to sail. We just booked yesterday for the Dream the first week of October. I think we have got the Disney cruise bug.

Heading back to Disney World this week-end for Mother's Day. Will have to miss the following week-end due to early flight on Monday to Vancouver.

See you all there!

Our friends came into Vancouver Tuesday on the repo and had a fabulous time. They said it was really cold on deck -nobody in the pool. They saved the navigators- for movies there was a Prem EAR of PROM and listings for Mars needs moms, Tangled, Tron, African Cats, TS3, Gnomeo & Julliet, I am #4, Secretariat.

I can't wait to actually see the ship, an am jealous of those who have already seen it...we've been reading the blogs each day, one said that the pools were 89 degrees (hooray) but the seas were so rough they were closed (boo!) I'm getting a mickey suitcase for mother's day (I picked it out) and I'm so excited to start packing....our FE gifts are almost done, now I"m just waiting for our fish extenders to get here in the mail....

Oh my, there's so much to do between now and Monday morning when we leave...we're flying into Vancouver, but have to leave our house at 6:30 in the morning to catch our flight from LA, but I know it will all be worth it!

I'm going to call the doc today about prescriptions for the seasick patch...since at least for right now, the seas are not cooperating!

I also have to say, this board is a real blessing to me...it's so nice to feel that I already know some people on board, and to have people who are willing to help me figure things out this first cruise...thank you to everyone who takes the time to post...it's making looking forward to this vacation that much better.

When you get the card in your room about onboard booking, fill out the card with your new reservation number and ask them to covert it over on the ship, you will get 10% off and $200 OBC applied to that booking.
Just write it on the card and drop it in the box at the desk - don't stand in the line or waste any cruise time -they just take care of it for you, and you will get a letter in your stateroom saying its all done!
What I do is the day we are about to cruise, I find the one I want, write down the date/ship and then just put that on the card, and I drop it off into the box - never ever wait in line! They just do it for you, then you approve the price, on board booking only has a 10% deposit - so I grab a cheap 7 day cruise - even if I don't plan on going on it- I found the one I am going to use this time, and my deposit will be about $150 to get my 10% off and $200 OBC for the cruise we do decide on!

Oh awesome - Meg really wants to see Prom!! I plan on catching a few movies too - they are so expensive to see at the theater, may as well take advantage! I hope they put some on port days, as we don't plan to spend too much time OFF the ship! lol

Quick FE question
Where on Earth do I get whatever needs to hang outside my room? Is there some sort of "rule" or "guideline" of what it has to be? Of all the things to worry about pre-cruise, this is one of my worries right now --- and I know it shouldn't be. Can anyone help me out please? Thanks!

Palo Private Brunch
...Thanks so much Dreams for all your work! I really just figured I would miss the chance at Palo this trip.
Aww, you're welcome. Thanks for joining us!

The Wednesday date is fine for the Palo Dis group brunch, it will be a great way to start the trip!
Agreed! So excited when I got the email confirming one of the lucky reservations.

Btw, I was talking with a CM at the DCL phone line yesterday and he saw Palo private dining room on my reservation and said, "Oh wow! You arranged for that. Very nice." Made me smile that he commented on the "specialness" of it.

MontanaDJ, Magicmaginear, I just want to make sure you both saw this post confirming our Palo Brunch. (If I missed a reply from you, I apologize. I've been planning two trips simultaneously and just returned from trip one. Yep, my head is spinning a bit. :upsidedow

Question for Magicmaginear
I saw you mention making ears for some for their doors. Is this something easy for you? I would LOVE some, but don't want to ask if it's a big fuss. Let me know if it's simple and what options there are. (If it's trouble, I don't want you to bother with it at all. :goodvibes) Thanks!

Make it a great day everyone,
Dreams

On quick answer for you - for the FE - look up fish extender on ebay and you will see them - some people literally just buy one of those small shoe hanger type things for traveling and hang them out on the door. They work fine!

Dreams,
It's not too late to get a Fish Extender on eBay or etsy, or to make one for yourself. I picked one out on eBay and had it within just a couple of days.

There are directions for a "No Sew" Fish Extender somewhere on the boards. I downloaded those instructions, if you can't find them and still want them, PM me and I'll send you a copy when I get home.

As for the door decor, here is a thread with graphics and printing instructions so you can make just the ones you like:

This has been my "arts and crafts" project this week, and I was surprised at how well they turned out!

Hey everyone,

Just booked the Pan Pacific for $124 on Hotwire!!!!!

I think the final total was $151 with tax and fees.

If anyone wants to try to book it, it will be listed as Vancouver West 5-Star with fitness, pool, restaurant, internet, spa, and business center. It also has a 90% Customer Review. (Note that if it says 80% then it is the Sutton instead) Hope this will help some of you out.
Tommy
