*****Official (??) June 2014 Thread -- Party Like It's Hot!*****

Having made my mind up I wasn't hiring a car I have now given in and hired myself a car! I'm a little nervous about driving on the wrong side of the road and car :drive: but I enjoy driving, don't get to do it much as I don't have a car myself and I will enjoy not having to worry about catching buses. So other than that I think I am mostly good to go. Still not got to grips with the FP+ thing, I have booked some for a couple of days but it's so long long since I was last at Disney they're completely new and I am still of the "wing it as I go" mindset. Maybe I'll get over that after my first park :confused3 SO excited, 1 week and 4 days to go :cool1:
We rented a car too. I have lived in Southern California my entire life, and having a car here is a necessity. I feel strange when I am at a place without a car available to me.

Wow, I've always wanted to visit the UK, but trust me, I will not be driving there when I do! Very brave of you! I'm not even interested in renting a car and driving around WDW and we drive in LA and Bay Area traffic! After a long plane flight we'd probably end up in Georgia or something we had to find our way from the airport. :rotfl2:

Our Magic Bands arrived today! I tried mine on and it fits just at the edge of the color. So not sure if I should take the gray off or not. It looks like once it is off, it stays off. But the gray part is so long it wraps more than half way around my wrist on the inside of the band, which is annoying. Maybe I can just trim it. Has anyone done this?

THEY ARE HERE!!!
The trip is becoming even more real!

8 days until we leave. This upcoming week is going to kill me-- I just can't stand waiting any longer at this point! :)

:welcome: Cinderella1122! Late's better than never, right?

I stumbled in here a little late! I will be doing a short 4 day trip with my younger brother. In order to save some DVC points for a big extended family trip next year, I decided to book at ASmu with the great annual passholder w/ free memory maker rate. It will be a first time for both of us to stay at any of the AS's and we are super excited to try it out.

Edit: Forgot to add that we will be there form June 16th to 19th!

We got our MBs today, too! (27 day mark).

Made it through the Seniors' Class Night last night. It went well enough. Now, to spend some time this weekend getting the final exams ready for 12th (Tuesday) and 9th (Wednesday) and start getting geared up to clean everything up Wednesday (only 1 class) and hopefully be ready for the last day of school Thursday! :dance3::dance3::dance3:

DSis and I just got back from a local recital by our old dance company. They put on The Lion King just like we did twenty years ago. Maybe I'm just a sucker for nostalgia, but this underwhelmed us on our search to kick off the 'unofficial start of summer' with some 'Disney Magic'. We mixed all the dance styles when I was a kid (ballet, tap, jazz, tumbling), but this time it was ten ballet 'songs', done with Lion King, move on to 2.5 hours of loud Hip Hop racket. :sad2: (I mean no offense to anyone who enjoys hiphop music; personally the strong bass gives me a migraine.) Clearly it wasn't the Disney pick-me-up experience we were looking for, although I will admit the "He Lives in You" scene was amazing!

So, instead we're watching a Don Bluth film to cheer ourselves up and we'll try something else after my cousin's wedding tomorrow. :rotfl:
No MagicBands yet.

American tale??? Secret of nimh? Thumbelina? Troll in Central Park?

Gotta love Secret of NIMH... A kids animated movie about a group of rats and mice who are drugged out of their minds. :-)

I have one even better! I have an old VHS and it's got a short of Mickey having a talent show or
Gong show. Well Donald comes out, forgets twinkle twinkle little star and is laughed off stage. He then comes back a little later disguised with a violin case. Begins to recite, forgets Nd whips out at machine guns and starts shooting at the audience!!! No joke, I'm totally not making this up!!

I'm staying off-site so it will just be easier. Also, I have driven all over the UK and New Zealand (who drive on the same side as we do) and aside from the odd mini adventure when I've gone the wrong way I'm pretty adept at finding my way about and adjusting to new cars. So I'm hoping it will be the same when I get to Orlando! I think it's easier for us to adapt to driving there than vice versa, our country wasn't originally designed for cars whereas America is car focused, that's what I keep telling myself anyway............If there's a multi-car pile up the evening of 4th June you'll know the cause :rotfl2:

I remember some of you posting this but I've been paging back and can't find the posts. For those of you who received BOG email invites how early before your trip did you get them? Was it as early as a month or closer to your trip, I can't remember? Thanks!

I received my BOG email exactly 4 weeks prior to my arrival date.

Are they still sending the invites out by email? I had heard that they weren't doing it any longer and you just book through the link?

Our dance school *just* added hip hop classes this year. Last summer, they had "drop in" classes. On Mondays at the appropriate time, just drop your child off with $7 and she can participate in the class. It's a different dance style every week. Last year, the director found a guy who's pretty good at hip hop to come in and teach, but he'd never taught anything before. Weeellll.....it was a really popular class.

However...

Once they were in the class...it wasn't quite as fun having to do it every week. There were still several who enjoyed doing it, but everyone on the competition team except two girls quit (my own child included.) At the recital, the younger class couldn't perform without watching him do it off stage (and even then, it wasn't great...), and the older girls were a lot better, but they couldn't "pop" it. They pumped their arms, but that little chest move they're supposed to do with it...well...didn't happen.

One of DD's friends was in the younger class, and she thinks she should be moved up to the other class...but she didn't do any better than the rest of her group. Can't tell her that, though. I do keep telling her that if he continues to do this, he should improve as time moves on. Bring on the non-hip hop ('cause our girls just don't have it...)

Just canceled our ADR for breakfast at Kona Cafe on the 22nd. It's our last day and we're driving out. The kids wanted more time at our stopping point - New Orleans - so it looks like we'll be on the road way earlier instead.

Mom and I are doing the QSDP this time. Sure, sure, we've got some favorites and places we've tried and all, but we're looking for new and different. What's a QS that is special to you? Let me get the list started...

  1. Yorkshire County Fish Shoppe -- love it, and it's a must do every trip.
  2. Columbia Harbor House -- menu is a little different than the standard faire, and we're good with that. Can't eat a burger at every meal.
  3. Be Our Guest -- We've done dinner there before, and either we'll get a lunch there this trip or we won't.
  4. Casey's -- Can we say Corn Dog Nuggets?
  5. Cosmic Ray's -- Ribs & Chicken enough to share, says everyone...

There's more, of course. We like to resort hop on off days, so those are always options. And some I can't think of the names of the places. Mom posted this question in a Facebook group, but everyone comes up with the same ol' same ol'. (All of the above...Sunshine Seasons...) Although, I suppose we should all chime in on our favorites overall for those who aren't seasoned veterans who have already seemingly been everywhere...

So, again... Favorite QS and what do you like about it?

I love the BBQ chicken at Flame Tree BBQ. It's one of our favorite places. We always get a spot overlooking the lake with EE off in the background.

We also really like Earl of Sandwich at DD. My favorite is the Hawaiian BBQ sandwich. :)
