*****Official (??) June 2014 Thread -- Party Like It's Hot!*****

My DD will be turning 10 about half way through our trip. Plus we are celebrating the fact that it is our first trip.

We are at 11 days and a few hours. :yay: Time to start getting things ready to pack.

We arrive on DD's 10th bday. Both my DD's will be celebrating. DD4 and DD10!! My dad's bday is a few days before we get there and my parents and our anniversary is in June!!

Updated! Finally! And caught up! Woohoo!

Dance recital was last night, so our dance year is over! (Until competition team interest meeting on the 27th...)

This week may still have some craziness. I've got a faculty meeting Monday (put off twice now...), seems like there is something on Tuesday, I need to fit in some Girl Scouts one day this week (???)...Thursday, I will likely need to stay late to help decorate for Friday's Senior Honors Day and Class Night.

With my Seniors, we've got practice 2nd block tomorrow, then there's a play 2nd block. Wednesday is Honor's Day for 7 - 11th grades and 4th block Senior practice. Thursday is 1st/3rd block final exams for Seniors (gotta get a study guide done!) and I may not have 2nd/4th blocks (:cheer2:) Friday is Senior Honors Day and the tea. They will leave around lunch time, and I have to decide if I'm going to get DD and bring her for Class Night that evening (must be back at school by 6 for the program that starts at 7 and may last until 8:30 or 9...) The next Monday is a holiday. Tuesday is 2nd/4th finals for all classes, then I won't have Seniors that Wednesday (yay! but still have 9th graders...), then the 29th is the last day. Graduation practice at 8 that morning, kids released at 12:30, Graduation line up at 6:00 that night. Last day for me on the 30th.

But I should be able to check in here a little more often. :)

BTW...

  1. We should do a photo challenge (make a list of things to photograph and post after our trips....)
  2. With some of us leaving in a week, do we need a final checklist of "make sure you take this" type items?
  3. What is on your "must buy" list of souvenirs? Or are you the type to hit clearance sales and outlet stores to stock up on inexpensive stuff to pack and "surprise" your kids with so they don't ask for all that expensive stuff at Disney? Do you plan a budget for souvenirs -- I don't want to spend more than X amount each day?
  4. I'll try to start posting some Disney theme night ideas...but anyone else who has one can certainly join in! We (my family) could start Wednesday -- which is our 30 nights out day. (And, for the most part, I will be able to cook and prep stuff, with a handful of exceptions.)
  5. Anything else?

Does it seem like to you that the closer the end of the year gets, the BUSIER school stuff gets? I keep looking at my Floral classroom wondering if I can get it all packed up nice for the custodians to do their summer cleaning.

We've got a "pack this" pile going on so we dont forget anything. Picked up a couple of purse size clorox-wipes packets (aint gonna lie, I get freaked out with this MERS stuff). Found some AWESOME shoes...Skechers has new ones with Memory Foam in-soles and I had to have them. The bottoms look like little pink plastic bubbles of air and they are AMAZING!!! But what I was originally getting at was a packing list might be awesome!

My must buy---well aside from food i HAVE to have when there (Dole whip, mickey bar, that huge bucket of popcorn) i HAVE to have a new mickey ear hat everytime I go. I currently have my first traditional mickey hat with my name from Chapeau, a green St. patrick's 2010 one, and a 2014 one with fireworks on it. Not sure what i will go for this time. I AM taking a tiara with me though just for giggles.

So many awesome celebrations going on! I'm excited to be part of them for once.

I have a question on the MagicBands. Does anyone use something besides their real name or nickanme? Like a screenname just to make sure if it's lost it's found? Y'know, like Dreamport? Or is it best to just use your name? I'm having trouble deciding on my nickname or something more unique just in case, as said, it gets lost.

Sure does seem to get busier...but there's just too much that needs to be done...period. And getting little cooperation where I need cooperation. We're supposed to practice class night tomorrow, but the kids who were supposed to write the script didn't. And I shouldn't be angry or upset about it at all. I need lists and things finalized, and I haven't really had time to sit down and get all that down....guess I need to before I go to bed (it's already 10 here! Yikes!)

Packing list... beyond the clothes, we must take sunscreen, ponchos, money (yes I put that on my list), phone chargers... make sure you take any medication, including pain and allergy meds. (Or, well, I've been told you can get all that at the first aid station, but we all know if we're getting a headache or anything like that, we'll be on the opposite end of the park from first aid...)

When we're there, we always buy a hat. Started buying beach towels a few years ago (I love my beach towels!) Plus the coffee cup (like we need another...) And a year t-shirt -- I have one for every year from 2008 on (my 2010 is a MVMCP shirt, but it IS dated!) DD has started collecting flags from the countries in the World Showcase, so we'll have to add a few more to that collection... I also buy a Japanese postcard for a friend every year and at Christmas, we play Dirty Santa with Christmas ornaments at work, so I at least have to get ONE Christmas ornament. I could keep adding to this list....I could even go into the must buy drinks and/or snacks...:rotfl:

Just a note on the pain meds, first aid situation. I was in AK a couple of years ago and got a debilitating headache, with no meds on me! I wend to the nearest gift shop and asked, the CM said they only had Tylenol ( which wasn't gonna cut it), but sent me to a little grass hut kiosk at the intersection of Asia and Africa, which was cool cuz I expected to be told " you'll have to go to first aid at the park entrance". Anyway, the CM pulls out this little suitcase, not kidding- it was a suitcase like the decorative 1930s travelers you see at AK, opens it up and it is full of little packs of pills! They had allergy meds, OTC pain meds, and antacids. I really don't remember the $ but I do remember they had Excedrin Migraine and I WAS SAVED! Gotta admit it felt kinda shady buying pills in little packets out of a suitcase--lol!

Yes, the end of the school year is busier! We have Open House/Spring Concert on Tuesday night. After that it is a race to take down everything and clean up the classroom. Only 2 weeks of school left. Only 1 day without students. And I still have to order supplies for next year. Don't know how I'll get it all done!

I started packing some extra toiletries and my 311 bag for the plane. Still need to shop for a bunch of things.

I've been looking at those Sketchers too! Do you have them? I was going to see if they had them at Khols. Are they the Go Walks?

How many of us will be celebrating actual birthdays, anniversaries, etc. while we're in the World?

Our 18th anniversary is June 1 and we arrive June 3. Last year we were able to go on vacation on June 1 and eat at RFC at Disneyland on our actual anniversary! We still have to do our traditional dinner before we leave home- there is a restaurant here that we have eaten at for every anniversary since the 1st one.

DH wants to look for Skechers. There are Chill ones that have memory foam and something about air flow. A while back they had kids ones where air would pump up between your toes and he wanted some, so he wants to see if these do the same thing. Kohl's didn't have them on their website. We have a new Skechers outlet in Des Moines we are going to check out on Friday.

I ended up getting roped in to teach a summer program this summer...literally the whole summer. Luckily they are letting me work part time. The good news is, more spending money for WDW!

Our 5 year anniversary is on the 12th. We're doing dinner at CRT during fireworks. :D Last time we did that, someone by the windows proposed during the fireworks and it was *so* amazing! :lovestruc

This will be my first ever birthday in the World - on the 11th! Last year I had my first ever birthday in the Land and it was pretty darn awesome. So this time I'm trying to top it!

18 more days!

We'll we celebrating my DD's 10th b-day while we're down there. Her b-day is the week after we get home but couldn't get off work that week. Close enough!
