I know exactly the story you are talking about without having to search for it! I remember when I first read about your "ride." What a funny story, so glad you were able to share that with us! Hopefully, everything stays in tact this trip:).

Hooray hooray!

The IRS has sent our refund! So DH said go ahead and book the townhouse. Just awaiting the confirmation from the management company...We are going to stay at Windsor Hills in a townhouse. woohoo Private Pool!

Planning on all the kids (DS20, DS19, DD16, DS3) as well as it appears that DS19's Gf will come along. It's kinda funny--she is DD's bestie and they may be sisters-in-law in the future. Girls will be bunking together. Boys will be in the other rooms.

We will go to WDW for 4 days (military salute tix plus one). And on my 40th birthday (:scared1: ) we are going to Kennedy Space. Bought the little one a space suit for Christmas...He's worn it to the Rocket Center in Alabama (SpaceCamp is there). They also have Angry Birds so he is super excited.

At one point we were going to add a bunch of other excursions, but I said we need more relaxing. Already made those ADR's...and we'll do RD so we should get the rides we want. So glad the "baby" is 39" tall. He keeps saying what he wants to ride on...Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain. I keep saying he might not be big enough for some things. "Ok I eat and grow more. Mickey say so."

How Many Trips?: This makes something like 11 total for me (6+ back in the day with my parents. I was going to say as a kid but I really don't think that I've grown up.)

1995 - off site - College Spring break with my now DH

On-Site or Off?: On-Site!!! I just love the all inclusive experience feel of it.
Best Disney Story: Can't pick 1. Each trip adds a new one!
What do you look forward to most on your next trip? Not having to ride swap as much since the DD will be 40inchs and getting myself to slow our pace down. I love to push the family out the door for a RD and stay all day with no break till the park closes. I am hoping to slow my pace down with the summer crowds.

We are paying for dinning for the 1st time (We have always gone in Sept.) but I'm still not sure that it's worth it. I LOVE the fact I don't have to worry about it but hate the thought that the trip could be a little cheeper if we just payed out of pocket. What to do, what to do???

ADR: 6/8 Rose & Crown, 6/9 Chef de France, 6/10 Coral Reef, 6/11 Sci Fi Drive In, 6/12 Chef Micky, 6/13 Via Napoli, 6/14 Crystal Palace Breakfast b4 RD & Dessert Fireworks.

Ok, who's been in the summer and how crazy are the crowds? I feel like I have a good handle on our past trips but I feel like I need to plan more for this one. Advise????

We like the dining plan. Of course, we like it because we know that when we make our final payment, the only thing we have to worry about is gas for car, a meal on the way down and the way back up, and souvenirs! It works for us.

Summer crowds can be bad or not so bad. Usually, crowds pick up the closer to July 4th that you get. Before, say, the 28th, it's usually not so bad. Will note that we went one year in October when the crowds weren't supposed to be "bad," and I think it was worse at least one of those days than the most of our June trips. YMMV.

Hi! Just found this.

Travel Dates (if known): 6/3-6/10
Where Will You Be Staying?: Caribbean Beach
Travel Party: Me, DH, DD15, DD12
Current Location: Iowa
How Many Trips?: This is #6
On-Site or Off?: On

Hoping our flight on 6/3 will be okay- I allowed for 5 snow days and we've now used 3. The kids aren't super concerned about missing the last day or two of school though. I booked on SW so could maybe change, but the fares aren't as good (we're currently flying on Tuesdays). Hoping they don't cancel school for state basketball!

We have a BOG reservation for 7:35 pm on 6/4. Every once in a while I check to see if I can get it any earlier (first we had it for 8:15- I was glad to move it up from there). We tend to do rope drop and get back to the resort early evening. The only other reservation we will probably make is RFC at Animal Kingdom. It's tradition. Otherwise we are more than good with CS. We haven't done the dining plan since younger DD turned 10 because she will still want the kids meals so she is not worth buying a plan for!

Last time was a June trip too and we did go back for swims in the early afternoon (we don't in cooler weather), so I'm not sure what times I'll want for FP+.

If you wind up using more snow days, talk to the kids' principal(s). Explain that you've had this booked for a while, you'll be doing educational things (because you will, right? :thumbsup2), and see if they can take exams early. A lot of schools have a family vacation policy, and as long as you get it pre-approved, the principal can mark it as excused absences, so it doesn't count against them. (Sure, you can get a "no," but, really..what's the worst that can happen here? You get told no?) See if they'll work with you, and if they won't and you don't feel good about having the kids miss out on a couple days at the end of the year, better to know ASAP and move dates than not. (Again..... YMMV.)

On-Site or Off?: Both. Would love to stay onsite the whole time, but it is hard to pass up free.
Best Disney Story: Too many to count. Seeing Disney through your children's eyes is the best though.
What do you look forward to most on your next trip? Having 10 days in the parks to take our time and experience the things we usually miss.

10 days is nice. If you can, sneak in a down day. The water parks are fun. We spent a day last year resort-hopping. Did you know that if you go to a DVC resort, you can tour a room? Tell them you don't have more than X amount of time....they'll cut the speech trying to get you to buy in short, but you can still see the resort and see what a room looks like. We toured OKW last year, and it was gorgeous! We also walked around POP and AoA and took the buses to all of those. My DD and I had our birthday buttons on at AoA, and a cast member brought us flowers (they give them out when you check in. We told them we were just there to look around and see if it's where we may want to stay in the future. :))

Hey all. I will be Home june 8-14 staying first 3 nights at kidani and the last 3 nights at bay lake

We'll be at POFQ during the same time! :D (Well, 21-28, anyway.) Did you know there is a gift shop by Gaston's Tavern in new Fantasy Land that only has Beauty and the Beast merchandise? It's the only place on property you can get some items. Last year, they had a coffee cup for Belle that had her signature on it, as well as a similar one for Beast. My brother and his wife had brought her youngest sister, and she totally loves the Beast. She wasn't going to buy that cup, but I told her if she really wanted, it, she really needed to go get it, because she wouldn't find anything like that (especially with Beast's signature on it) anywhere else.

Just booked today! Been planning it for a month ro two but we are official now!

What do you look forward to most on your next trip? Sharing Disney Joy with extended family.

I hope you and your extended family have fun (and I hope you have plans for everyone to not be together the entire time....it can make a magical trip a little less magical. My brother got aggravated a couple of years ago when he and his wife went with us. His aggravation? Because Mom and I are there for DD, so, especially on her birthday, we let her pick a lot of what we do. We wanted to look at him and say, "You know...you are an adult, quickly approaching 40 years old....go do what you want to do. Here's where the ADRs are, just make sure you meet us at least 15 minutes before ADR time...." Oddly, he wanted to go again (and went!) last year, plus he is considering them going this year. He hasn't directly said so yet, but he keeps wanting to be reminded when we are going...and talking about Disney...)

May not be a bad idea. I don't have anything formally planned for that night. It would depend on the DH.

We used to drive down to Philly and stay in a hotel and then get up early and fly down. Well, the hotels have started to charge to park, and we had a horrible hotel experience last time. So, now I just said.... nope, we just get a later flight and stay at DIsney the whole time. hehe. :)

I'd rather stay at Disney the whole time, too... Of course, we live about 6.5 hours away, so we just drive down.

We've plenty of time to get something planned. I don't know a whole lot about POFQ...we've stayed at POR plenty of times, though. Need to research. Of course, we could potentially plan a meet at DTD...dinner, even. Lots of options. :)

Hi all! I need to make a change to my original info post. Our original travel party was myself, DH, and DS (turning 5 on the trip). My youngest son who will be 23 months was going to stay home with my mother and have a week with Grandma but the guilt consumed my DH and I too much so we have decided to take him. I mean, how often will I get to take a kid to Disney for free? I'm even more excited about the trip now and can't wait to experience it as a whole family! :cool1:

Don't forget about rider swap! (Which, we used last year with my DD who didn't want to ride EE, and she was 8/9....) Good point on the Free. :)

Okay! Updated! Yay! :goodvibes

It's been incredibly busy and will continue to be so through the rest of the month.

Dance Competition went well, except for the fact that we were up against schools who are training professional dancers. (I mean...one school was called Atlanta Professional Dance Academy, and the instructors and students were all of Asian descent. Their one production number was just so.... wow. Everything they did was flawless.) So, needless to say, if we were in a category in which we were competing against another school, we came in last, every time. Every routine gets some kind of award, though, and when you figure that our girls worked hard during the summer, then practice 15 minutes a week or so on each routine and one Sunday afternoon a month, they were awesome.

DD's tap trio competed against a tap duet, so they got a 2nd place award. The large group jazz production number had no competitors, so they were 1st for that category. When the picture CD comes in, I'll post a pic from the trio routine. :)

So, I took Monday off, because cookie money was due in the bank by yesterday, we got in late, I was tired, had running around to do, etc. Remember I had the flu a couple of weeks ago? I've kept a cough...and now...bronchitis! I went to the doctor after work yesterday, and now I'm home until next week. Last time, we had 4 snow days, which was nice because (a) state of emergency declared by the governor = no make up days and (b) I didn't have to use my sick leave days except for THAT Monday. I think the secretary and I were hoping the snow and ice from last night would come a little farther south...but no such luck.

I've got to feel better by this weekend, though, because I'm supposed to do cookie sales Saturday, Sunday, and Monday! Worst part will be hauling cookies and table from car to booth site and back again, but I can probably park close enough Sunday and Monday to unload and make DD haul boxes, and Saturday is at Walmart..so we can load a buggy with everything. Once everything is set up...I have a chair! The DD is supposed to do all the work -- I just count the $! Temps look decent (upper 50s/low-mid 60s). Sunny. And I can take a book and read.... Surely we can make this work? Right????

Totally need to go see about getting some troop t-shirts made. Maybe tomorrow, though. I'm trying not to move today, although that is really, really boring. :( Hate being sick and not necessarily feeling it.

(Again..... YMMV.)

Yeah, if we run into that I will start contacting school. At least our school has been very cooperative when we took them out for vacation before (through 5th grade). This is the first time we have a high schooler, but her experience has been that it's not hard, so she should be fine as long as she can take any tests early. I've never seen a kid with so much down time in school! Ideally, we will have school all out of the way ahead of time. There are choir kids going to New York 5/31 to 6/3, so if we don't get out by then, they will be missing school too, so she could join in on any early tests they do. Seems like last time there was a choir trip they tried to make sure school was done before it.

Next year school is being counted by number of hours instead of number of days, and the superintendant said that should cause less uncertainty about the end of the year. I think it's because we will have more hours scheduled than necessary, so not all missed time will have to be made up? That would be great. Anybody else have experience with that?

Best Disney Story: We were selected Family of the Day in the Magic Kingdom on June 8, 2012!

:dance3: Congrats!

I didn't put in a Best Disney Story in my OP, but I should have put that we were FOTD at MK on 6/11/11! (I think that's the date!) Probably going to try again this year. I wish you still got to meet characters beforehand. But it was still awesome!

Don't forget about rider swap! (Which, we used last year with my DD who didn't want to ride EE, and she was 8/9....) Good point on the Free. :)

I've been doing plenty of research into RS and definitely plan on utilizing it! Can't wait!

Here in Alabama, they went from 180 school days to 1080 hours of school for students (teachers are still on the 187-day plan) a couple of years ago. Now, if you figure that our school goes to school from 7:45 - 3:08 (or, let's use 8-3, for ease of math...), that's 7 hours a day. There are 18 weeks per semester (actually, more like 20 for the 2nd semester, but if you figure holidays, I suppose it works out to just say 18.) 7 hours times 5 days a week = 35 hours per week. 35 hours times 36 weeks = 1260 hours. A little more than what we are required to go. Our superintendent is really insistent that we go our full time; fortunately, there's a law that says if it's a state of emergency, we don't have to make up time missed (so far, there hasn't been an announcement saying we will have to make up the 4 snow/ice days we had two weeks ago, but, then, I think he'd have a whole bunch of parents complaining...) This year, we are going a full week longer than any other school system near us that I am aware of (my DD will be out a week before I am. How unfair.)

Oh...I could also note that DD's system is the one in Alabama where the crazy guy boarded the school bus, shot the driver, and kidnapped a 6 year old that he drug into an underground bunker for a week. The whole system (my DD does not go to any of the schools that were serviced by that bus) were out 3 days (I think) for that, and didn't have to make it up. (Can you believe that was a year ago?)

Totally need to go see about getting some troop t-shirts made. Maybe tomorrow, though. I'm trying not to move today, although that is really, really boring. :( Hate being sick and not necessarily feeling it.

Oh, good ole cookie sales. I was troop leader from Daisies until Juniors and then I still kept "assisting" the leaders until DD just couldn't do any more and she was a Cadette. She wanted to go on to Ambassador, but I couldn't be her leader with the new baby coming and the leadership in the last council was...um, lacking.

I would definitely use the buggy to move the cookies. I always park near a cart corral and then you have a choice. It also cuts down on the evil eye when you gather up several carts.

For our Brownies, we made our own shirts. I had the girls bring in a white shirt (bring an old stained one if you have it). I got poster letter stencils similar to this http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/artskills-4-assorted-color-poster-letters-651935/ . Then get tie dye paint and put it in spray bottles. Place the word Troop and the number you are on the shirt. Spray away with the paint. When you are finished, the numbers will be white on a tie dyed look shirt.

The girls who brought in old shirts were able to work on recycling/reusing as well as the Art to Wear badge.

The girls also had cheetah print ribbons tied to black rubberbands and they wore those every where. The Cheetah Girl movies were super popular with them. We discussed that they couldn't really be cheetahs because of the copyright, but they could be the rainbow or tiedye sisters. And for 3 years, that's what I had. Little rainbow tiedye girls who were never lost. :cheer2:

Btw, I loved it, but I don't miss it now. I also did Cub Scouts for DS so I know all about popcorn sales too.

Please feel better soon!

Around here, they are trying to work it all out. The school calendar has days marked on it for make up, but already they are having the kids come in on other days. For example, Presidents' Day they will be in session, rather than have it off.

Counting hours..that happened in Louisiana after so many losses due to hurricanes. They figured out how many the school needed, then added 27 minutes to each day--starting early by a few minutes, getting out a few minutes later and removing time from lunch and passing periods. By doing this for about 8 weeks, more than enough was made up. It was odd to see the new schedule. 3 minutes, 2 minutes, 8 minutes...I know I thought they should just make it 30 minutes later or earlier for the school day, but somewhere there was a by-law or something. The kids were so settled into the new routine and it actually did not cause much difficulty. Buses still came at about the same time.

Definitely need to keep this dialogue going since there will be a few of us there at that time. :) We could also meet in the eating area and have some of the awesome dessert thing there.... the name escapes me. Someone will know what I'm talking about though. They are small fried dough things that are yummy!

It would be dangerous if we only lived 6 1/2 hours away. I think we would be making extra trips we couldn't afford!

Okay! Updated! Yay!

I know what you mean about snow days cuz of my DD who's in college in Birmingham. The school is talking about cancelling Spring Break to make them up! My middle DD is in competition dance also. Her team specializes in high kick, like the Rockettes. Sadly, she hadto take herself out of Nationals (which was at WDW Wide World of Sports) due to a knee injury, she's having arthroscopic surgery on Monday. On the bright side she did get to spend a few hours in MK at the end of the weekend!

Oh gosh, do you know they seriously cut the number of badges you can earn? There isn't an Art You Can Wear or anything like that now. Those big books of try-its? Gone.

We were supposed to tie dye shirts for the last two years, and the previous leaded didn't make it happen. Now, we meet in a daycare, and I'm not sure it would work out. I would like to do the ones where you draw with Sharpies, then drop rubbing alcohol over the drawings.
