***Official June, 2012! Hot, hot, hot!!!***

Hope she gets to feeling better soon and that no one else gets it. Have a great time on vacation. We don't leave until the 21st and won't arrive until the 23rd.

Thanks! She feels better today but now I am worried it is going to rain the whole time we are there. Grrrr. What are some things to do if it rains? Does anyone know what rides/attractions they close in the event of rain?

I'm not really sure. I knew Test Track had problems in the rain, but I don't guess you need to worry about that ;) We are only there for 5 days, with only 3 in the parks so rain or shine we will be going :) So far for us, it's looking like there might be rain the first two days, then we may get a break!!

Okay, maybe I lied about the rain. Just re-checked the weather, and it looks like rain the whole time we are there. Here's hoping it is just scattered! Still looking forward to it!

What about parades and fireworks, do those still go on with the rain?

I'll be in WDW 2 weeks from now! WOO HOO!!

I'm still doing laundry from my May trip, so I'm packing stuff as soon as it's ready from the dryer!

Isn't it great to look forward to a Disney trip? I'm so excited!

And for those who are fretting about rain, it rained 2 out of 3 days when I was there over Memorial Day weekend. Yes, ponchos are necessary. Yes, the restarants get CROWDED. Yes, some things like parades and outside shows are postponed or cancelled. BUT... most of the rides are available, and you can still have a blast, like I did. Just plan to be a little more flexible.

From what I have read it takes a storm to shut down most things like lightening sighted, thunder, really strong winds, etc. My mantra for going to Orlando is always “have poncho will travel”. Of course now it’s “have poncho, rain jacket and stroller cover will travel.” My biggest tool while we are there will be the hourly forecast I can pull up on weather.com each morning. Until you see that, the rain in the forecast could be periodically through the day or for 1 hour or 2 hours or 1 hour early and 1 hour late.

It was really useful to me on other vacations and has been pretty accurate. On a trip to Virginia in April 2011, we drove to the zoo in pouring rain, toured faster than I normally might have because the rain was due to return at 2, but we were able to tour with no rain and were on our way back to the van just as the rain was returning. My daughter and my sitter were very impressed with me as other people who were just arriving ran back to their vehicles.

For Disney if possible, we’ll adjust the plan so we can try to do uncovered things like Dumbo, Aladdin, etc. when it isn’t raining or isn’t raining hard. We plan each to day be in a certain area of a park (Tomorrow Land for example), but that is as far as I go with the planning, so there is room for adjustments.

From someone who was there June 4 - 8 this month and it rained every day but one; you will be fine! It thundered and stormed heavily four of my five days and I still toured pretty much the whole time.

My strategy was to bring 2 cheap ponchos with me each day and wear one and throw it out when things cleared up midday and then use the second one if I needed it later that day. I couldn't stand trying to fold up that huge, still wet poncho until I needed it again!

I also found that I could stuff my poncho (damp) into the netting designed to hold my drink bottle on my fanny pack but a back pack with a similar pocket would work as well.

You'll have enough warning about downpours to get somewhere sheltered before the worst of the storms. I usually shopped or went inside to eat or see a show. Most the longer rains were at night so my touring plans were only slightly affected.

HTH!

One week from today I will be leaving N.O. and flying to Orlando!!:cool1: What am I gonna do for fun when this vacation is over?? LOL!

15 days left

Yesterday I washed the bedding on the dog/house sitters bed and started cleaning the room up for her! Now it is starting to feel very real :rotfl:

Well, we got back home yesterday from 4 miserable days at WDW, the rain I could deal with, but the in-laws were a nightmare from you know where.

Had a nice birthday breakfast with klmall, but the rest of the day, they made me so miserable.

We got to see and do very little with them almost always complaining.

I want a do over!

For those going in the next few days, I hope you have a fabulous time.

I’ve been asking myself this very question. I mean I have been seriously asking myself this question. I am sure we will have a wonderful time, but it is still only June. Well, once we get back it will be July. I have done a vacation in June before (2010) and told myself we would continue to do fun things the rest of the summer.

It didn’t happen. My daughter was in camp and did fun stuff periodically so she wasn’t asking me to take her anywhere on the weekends and my son was really small. Before I knew it, it was time for school to start again and we literally had not been anywhere else as a family, not even to our neighborhood pool. :sad2:

I’m sorry. Unfortunately I know from traveling with my in-laws on two family trips (to see my stepchildren graduate high school) and to various family events that I would not want to vacation with them at Disney World. This is our 2nd trip and what I have done both times is not reveal it. The first time it was a surprise for my dd, so I didn’t tell anyone except 3 people here. This time, dd knows, but has not brought it up when she sees them. She may when she sees them this weekend, but since we will be 5 days from departure it doesn’t matter.

A few years ago, we had to stand outside for a bit going to my nephews high school graduation because his mom had our tickets. I think it was about 15 minutes and my MIL cursed several times due to the heat. All the work I had to put in during that short time to distract dd while the expletives flew let me know all I needed to know.

Hope you get a do over soon.

This is the first time I have seen them in awhile, but unfortunately I don't think it will be the last, they are moving from Calif to Texas and will only be about 9 hours from us, so I expect they will want to come more often...We won't be available. Thank goodness Dh is on my side.

Even the trip we took with my cousins wasn't this stressful, she would take her kids and her sister to do things and we went our way and met for meals and everybody was happy.

She didn't curse, but she mumbled under her breath, instead of just coming out and saying something, kind of reminded me of a teenager. I worked so hard to keep my mouth shut. I'm so glad we don't have kids to have to deal with it.

We won't be inviting them to go anywhere else with us again and if they extend an invitation, we will be busy. We have both learned a valuable lesson.

Did my online check in today as well for POFQ! yesterday for POP! We are gettin so close!!!!!

You are a brave soul to tackle a vacation with your inlaws!!!

We live in South Louisiana where hurricanes are common in the summer. Years ago when DH and I were first married, we evacuated for one of these hurricanes with his brother, sister in law, their young son, my mother in law, father in law and grandmother in law. After a few days in the hotel with them, I decided that next time, I had rather deal with the hurricane than the in laws! LOL!:rotfl:

Sorry your vacation wasn;t as magical as you planned. But that just gives you an excuse to go back - without the inlaws this time!

It only takes once doesn't it? I will never do that again. I honestly had no idea it would turn out like that, especially since we had had a nice few days at our house before the trip. You live and you learn!

I totally understand - I mean I love my in-laws, but at a distance. 750 miles is close enough for me!!! I can't imagine taking a vacation with them! And DH agrees with me! ;)
