I think you are right it is to save money and may also reflect the lower crowds. If there are fewer people they do not keep the parks open as long so there will be more people in the park but for shorter hours. clear as mud! Lois

I am thinking it means "lower" crowds. I just hope the crowds are truly lower!! I was speculating that because a lot of people jumped on the 4/3 deal in the spring, then others jumped on the free dining offer, maybe our July is really a good time to be going. At least I hope so!! We were there the week before Easter (DDs high school band trip) and it was so packed. I have never seen it that bad. I am looking forward to this trip soooo much!

A previous poster (either on this thread or on another) stated awhile back that DHS would be closing early due to McDonald's reserving the park. Is this something that WDW usually does, closing the parks? Has anyone else heard of this?

It was me Amy, I said it. At first I thought that maybe Disney was actually closing early BECAUSE of the McDonald's park rental, but after seeing the hours posted for July, it is clear that the park was already going to close for the night at 7. They're just making extra money on top of that by having the whole park for McDonald's, the rest of the night.

Actually, Disney's financial reports indicate that ADMISSIONS at the park is actually UP. Not down. REVENUE is down more than 40% because even though more people are coming into the parks, they're holding on tight to their money. Gift shop revenue is down the most. And they're dining out less. If admissions are up, that means that crowds will not be smaller. They may even be larger. This is because a larger number of people are being packing into fewer hours. The parks are closing earlier in July than they did during the Spring Flower & Garden show and spring break.

That said.. Disney's financial report reflect previous quarters. The first quarter report speaks of Jan-March. The second quarter report isn't out yet, so we only know what happened in the last year, not what WILL be. If the economy got worse, then admissions might not be as strong. They wouldn't be extending the free dining (with full price packages) or the 4/3 deal if things weren't less rosy! but however it is.... It'll be ME walking down Main Street and grabbing a giant muffin in the bakery.. and that's whats important!

We are planning on spending a night on the beach after we leave WDW - Cocoa beach or clearwater beach any opinions I hear clearwater as some pretty awesome sand and dolphin sightings. So right now I am leaning in that direction. Also looking for advice on reasonable beach front hotels?

I haven't been to clearwater beach, I went to cocoa beach when I was 7. We swam in the water but it was so brown that you couldn't see what was in the water with you! The beach was good though lots of nice soft sand. At night we took a walk and saw a giant sea turtle that had just laid its eggs. If you are looking for a beach it is fun, but if you want to swim, I would go else where.

That's a great idea! When we check out on Sunday the 19th, we're planning to spend the entire day in the parks... then leave and drive to Melborne so that on Monday morning we can visit Florida Tech with DS17. That would be great if afterwards we can visit the beach, even for a few hours. I'd like to know what choices are good too. In fact, I don't even know if Melborne is NEAR the beach!!

I used the link to go to Disney's park hours page. I'd already copied the parks hours from allears.net into my planner. There are changes. MK, AK and HS all have later hours on at least one night than was previously list on allears. One difference that I am confused about. On the allears.net park hours site, it lists Future World and World Showcase separately. On allears, it said that on Tuesday and Thursday of the week we're going so that's the 14th and 16th FUTURE WORLD was having late magic hours. I'd never seen that before. That would put the late hours til 10, because it normally closes at 7. There had been no late magic hours listed for World Showcase at all that week. Now, on the Disney site, it shows EPCOT having late magic hours on Tuesday and Thursday til midnight. That would only be possible for World Showcase, as it closes at 9 normally. I wonder if the allears listing of late magic for future world was a mistake or does future world really have hours til 10 those nights? That would be great!

EMH hours at EPCOT include World showcase and some attractions in Future World. The future world attractions that are part of EMH stay open until midnight. I'm not sure , but they may shut down the future world attractions from 7-9 and then reopen them at 9 for resort guests.
