OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

Well, I am officially starting the couch to 5k on may 1, but am going to walk this month. and I had my first official walk today at lunch. I did 2.2 miles. It took me forty minutes, but I am happy with my first time! And I felt fine when I did it, so it made me realize the 5k is something I could probably do now, so I'm going to go all out and do the 1/2 marathon! Yeah!

Congrats on a great start and on committing to a wonderful goal.

You rock!! :cheer2:

I feel so accomplished this week, I have to share!

I'm beating a nasty cold, but was able to get in at least one good run this week. I set a new mile PR..12:30! I'm about to start week 6 (if this cold gets any better!) of 5k training on Monday. I'm slowly making my way to the half marathon training!

This thread already has so many great stories!! I think it's amazing how hard everyone is working already. It will pay off. Just don't give up!

Just figured I'd stop in to say that I'm going to enjoy putting in steps tomorrow. I've been nursing a knee problem and hope by now that I can at least get some walk steps in.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Just signed up DW for the Half. I'll be doing the Goofy so I'll run the half with her to share the experience and provide support (this is her first half and she's got a ways to go with the training).

Now, do I also sign up for the 5K and make it the Dopey? I did the full this year and am coming back to do the Goofy, but travelling from the west coast of Canada I can't see myself continuing this on an annual basis.

I'm thinking next year will be the all-out Disney running extravaganza. Goofy (or Dopey) at WDW, then the Disneyland Half in September to get the Coast to Coast medal. After that I'll probably try to stay local for a while or at least try other non-Disney events somewhere. So if I'm going to travel all that way, why not do everything I possibly can as long as I can do it safely.

Decisions, decisions....

Without looking through 28 pages of this thread...has the theme for the 5k been announced? DW wants to run it. Thanks.

I did my first half this past year, and planning on doing two halfs and my first full this year.

We are registering tonight for the Goofy Challenge!!:cool1:

Did my first outdoor run this weekend now that the weather is finally cooperating. What a difference. I've been working on about a 14:00-14:30 pace on the treadmill with runs from 2-8 miles and everything in between without much difficulty. Move to the outdoors and 2 miles was a feat. Before my first mile was done my knees were hurting and I was breathing heavier than normal. I was on a track that is somewhat cushioned so it's not like it was concrete or anything. Maybe I was going at a bit of a faster pace than normal as I don't have the regulatory speed control like the treadmill. All I know is I need to get outside more if I want to finish my first half without pulling oxygen beside me.

I've done two more 2.2 miles - and today I split my pants in the process - talk about a moral booster!

Sorry to read about the split pants. I usually wear sausage pants (compression shorts) and it sure wouln't be pretty if I got a split with all my cellulite!

I'm currently working on some strengthening and hope that I can continue through this. Getting steps in too. Knee still a bit of a bother. Not worse, not better.

Hello! I've been away from the boards for a few months, but it is good to be back and see so many familiar names!

I was reading through this thread trying to get caught up and ran across this quote from Coach:

NOTE - with regard to getting there phiscally.... mentally is a bigger issue. The best way I know to commit to the physical is to commit to the mental... that would be submitting an entry form and creating the goal

This sums it up for me because I took the plunge and registered for the full marathon in Jan 2012!!! Yes, I've committed to the MENTAL along with the physical! I've run a half last fall and recently ran the Princess Half, so if think I might be okay doing a full as long as I stay with the training plan. :)

At my current pace, it will be slow going. I'm trying to figure out what training plan to use. I guess it is just important to have a plan. Period. And incorporate the hill running and weight training.

Well good luck to everyone! This will be a fun year of planning and training and sharing!

Nope. I don't think it was announced until like October-ish last year.

They're too busy right now giving us inane clues to their new shiny thing to have thought about the 2012 5K I'm sure. /sarcasm

That thing on facebook was old 2 weeks ago, never mind now.

I need to get some - I was doing the walk at lunch at work - so had work pants on!
