Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Ugh!! I've hardly gotten any training in this week its so frustrating!!

I'm on Jury Duty - not just any kind, the federal kind, so it big - so they keep us trapped up in the court house every day till 5 or 5:30, then I have to go to work after that, because I don't get paid unless I work!!

So that's leaving my training on the back-burner!! Ugh!! I can't wait for this stinking trial to be over - I'm getting restless leg syndrom just sitting around all day!!

Sorry for the vent, I'm just super-frustrated!! And they said the trial will be 2 weeks... Its gonna be 3 weeks at the speed these attorneys are going :sad2:

Does anyone know if the Beverage Stations will have just water like the 5K's or hopefully powerade as well ?

They will have both water and PowerAde. On average they are about 1.5 miles apart... though the ranges are from just over a mile to just under 2.

Are you running ToT, Coach??? I'd love to finally meet you so I can say THANK YOU in person for all of your encouragement and support to everyone here. It's so kind of you to share your wisdom with those of us who are relatively new to the sport.

Amanda

Thanks, I find Powerade really helps.I am a little worried about running in the heat for my first 10 mile run.

my 10K is this weekend.....hoping for a good time for a better corral placement. I've yet to be able to do an outside run this season....work, baseball, and camping trips take up too much time!! Thank goodness for the treadmill at work! My goal is 65 minutes, and the weather forcast right now looks really good, high 60's. however, with it being my 1st outdoor run of the season, I realistically think it will be closer to 70 minutes, but we'll see. I know there are 2 big hills that will kill me I'm sure!

I need to buy our park tickets too before they raise the prices!

Good luck :thumbsup2

I'm signing up for 3 10K's this summer - 2 of them will be within a week of each other :faint: I don't know what I'm thinking LOL!!

I figured we wouldn't need party tickets. I thought part of the finish line area would include an entrance to the party accessible to us for finishing the race (aka our bibs would be our party tickets). How did it work for the wine and dine with runners entering the after party?

We got wrist bands. I think the question was more for a commemorative ticket than an entry ticket.

So I ran my longest race so far (NOT my longest run though, lol) yesterday, a 10k, and boy was it killer! It was sooooo hot and soooo humid and soooo sunny! Didn't get as good a time as I know I can do, but it was the longest distance I've run so far in the heat and sun by about 2 miles. I finished in 56:40 which is about 4 minutes over my pr for that distance. It was good experience for the 1/2 marathon I'm running next month though, and just more incentive to keep working on adapting to the heat/humidity conditions. I figure I'll be super prepared for the ToT since at least that won't be in the sun! Lol

Thanks! I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. This is my first Disney race and I am very nervous.
I have to order my guests tickets though. Does anyone think it will sell out?

Edited to add:

I continued the heat training today and ran 2 miles in 92 degrees plus humidity & sun here in lovely NY, and managed to negative split my miles, 8:57 & 8:49, and was feeling good about myself until I saw the guy running in sweatpants!!!! :scared1:

I hope not. But I also hope that they don't pull the same stunt they did with the after party for the first Wine and Dine, hocking tickets at park closing to 'extend the magic of the Food and Wine Festival' to day guests.

A commemorative ticket would be neat to have.....:scratchin

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU JEFF GALLOWAY!!!!!

I've been trying to train for this race since February. I was trying the C25K thingy and would get to week 5 on the treadmill and couldn't continue no matter how hard I tried. I moved outside and it all went downhill from there. The more I tried the worse I would do. I ended up with bad shin splints, tendonitis and pain all the way around.

I got to the point where I thought I just woudln't make it. I wanted to quit and felt like a total loser. I took a couple weeks off to heal the shin splints and the stress fracture I received from overuse and got the notice yesterday from RunDisney about the start of the ToT Training Program.

I read the program and decided to give it a try yesterday. I was going to try the C25K and start from the beginning all over again but thought I would give Jeff Galloway and his method a try. Well....my shins still hurt but I made it through the 30min run. Did 2 miles and felt GREAT. :dance3: I went further outside then I've ever gone and I felt awesome.

I did 30/60 intervals and they were very comfortable for me. I might try and up it to 45/60 in 2 weeks or so. I found a 1 mile loop and did that twice. When I finished I thought to myself, this isn't so bad. I can do this!!!

So THANK YOU Jeff Galloway. I'm a believer :cloud9:

hollieplus2, not to be nosey but with your shin/SF issues have you been fitted for shoes but a proper running store? They will analyse your stride and foot landing pattern and recommend shoes the suite your running style. Makes all the difference in the world!!!

Disney just sent me an email with discounts for resort stays through 9/29. I managed to switch my race reservation from BC to YC, and save $45 a night.

Here's a long link to the detail page:

http://bookwdw.reservations.disney....ket=fy12q4room&CMP=EMC-WDWFY12Q4FY12Q4Q10045F

This isn't a pin code promo, just a general one. Hopefully the link will work. It's 15% off Value resorts up to 30% off Deluxe, with discounts in between.

Did my first 'official' training run yesterday, 30 minutes dreaming about Disney the whole time. :)

Yes went to fleet feet and got fitted with some new balance. I had shin splints when I went and honestly they haven't gotten any better. I've taken some steroids that were prescribed and I got some compression sleeves but it still hurts. Saw a doctor who told me to take it easy, listen to my body and proceed with caution. When I run I can feel intense pressure in one spot on the side of my shin. It hurts even when I'm not running. I'm taking it easy, icing often and trying to move forward.
