Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I hope to go to MNSSHP, too. It would be my first time, as well. I have been to the now defunct Pirate Princess Party. My family really enjoyed that party. I'd like to get to Wine & Dine, too.

We are...was just too perfect for us not to go! It will be our first as well and I'm SO excited! Which one are you attending? We're going to the one on the 30th.

We're going on the 28th :thumbsup2

DisneyBelle and HungryGreenHippo, hopefully we'll be able to run together. I don't stop for a ton of pictures, but I do want to stop for some!

Hi! I'm super new to the WISH board. You are all so motivating!!! I just started C25K with the ultimate goal of being able to run the TOT 10 Miler in 2013. I figure if I can make it through C25K, DH will be so happy for me that he'll agree to do this trip next year.

Is anyone willing to share ticket prices for park hoppers and park hoppers w/ waterparks? I'd like to be able to give him some numbers when I hit him up for the trip. I'm looking for all day options 2 days through 7 days, because I would like to stay with DD (who also wants to run the race) for a decent amount of time, and maybe DH can stay for a couple days.

Also, if anyone is willing to share the hotel rates for host resorts, I'd appreciate it tremendously. I want to stay deluxe, DD wants Caribbean Beach and no doubt DH would want an All Star LOL.

I realize these prices would increase every year, but it would give me an idea for what to budget so I can talk DH into this trip ;)

Thank you!

I ran another 10.5 miles today. Part of that is a quarter mile cool down. I feel pretty good. As I get older, my goals have changed. I want to control the race, not the race controls me.::yes:: No more killing myself for a PR, but rather to enjoy the experience. I have incurred a little chub rub today, as well. In my early running career, I never had a problem with this.

Very excited: got a good discount for All Star Sports and made our reservation yesterday. Now all I have to do is improve my running....

Sounds good! I'm into always trying to get a new PR so it might be good to have someone around to force me to stop for pics! :lmao:

I just found out I need knee surgery next Friday. I'm going to be cutting it close to be able to do this race. The trip is booked and mostly paid for, so we are going regardless. But my family won't be happy if I can't run too, since it was my idea for them to run with me!

I do bring a small camera with me. I have shorts from Race Ready with mesh pockets in the back, and the camera fits perfectly in one of them. However, I never stop to take pictures of myself with the characters because I'm afraid if I get in that line, I'll end up getting swept!

In a way, I will be solo too. Hubby is going to do the race, but he is so much faster than I am, so we are never together.

A friend of mine didn't think they would sweep if you were stuck in a line for characters... will they? This will be a first time for both of us... so it is kinda hard to know what to expect.

Anyone else planning on doing a MNSSHP while down there for the race? We're going!! Our first Halloween party :woohoo: We can't wait!!!

Planning to do the party the next night. As I write that... I realize that is two late nights in a row. Hmmmm...

Oh no! Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Just wanted to say they had the ToT medal on the display at the Run Disney booth at our 1/2 Marathon Expo this weekend and it was very cool! :cool1:

I got a very hot 6.3 miles in yesterday. The heat slowed me down quite a bit, and I think I walked almost all of the last 3 miles because of the heat. I sure hope I get used to it. Otherwise, training is going to be brutal this summer. That was the first time I'd done that distance, so at least that's something.

If you keep running outside, you should acclimate to the temperature. The temperature for the race will probably be, at the least, mid 70's. There is nothing wrong with walking. I'm all for it.

As I understand it, sweeping happens no matter why you are slower than the pace required. This from the RunDisney site - I think that is why they suggest training at a 15 min pace, to be able to stop for photos, restroom, etc.

All athletes entering The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler or the Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run must maintain a 16-minute per mile pace throughout the race. Anyone not able to maintain the respective paces may be picked up and transported to the finish. You may be picked up at any point along the course and transported for not maintaining pace. It is suggested that you train at a 15-minute per mile pace.

That is kinda what I thought too... I figure that as long as we maintain a good enough pace... character meets won't slow us to beyond the 16min per mile pace.

Now if I could just increase distance I am running AND reduce the time it is taking me.... not to mention increasing endurance. It is one thing (I assume) to be able to do a couple miles in under a half hour...and another to do 10 and maintain that pace.

First, congrats on a nice long run!

Second... we did the Expedition Everest Challenge this weekend. It was 80 degrees and humid when it started and I'm not gonna lie - it was rough. Standing around for two hours in the pre-race parking lot staging area, on blacktop that had been baking at over 90 degrees all day, I was already hot and sweating long before we started running. I got through it without being much slower than my usual hot weather pace, though, so acclimating does seem to help. It just won't make it feel any more comfortable, in my experience!

Thanks for the suggestions about the heat everyone! Living in the South makes for better training winters but not so much in the summertime. I'm starting by trying to hydrate more everyday. Then I'm planning to replace my water with powerade for my long runs. Then I'm just going to have to get out as early as possible for the long ones. So far I've been ok with the heat but Sunday's lower 80's, no clouds, bright sun beating down, no breeze, no shade was about more than I could take. It's encouraging knowing I'll be able to acclimate myself to it.

Not drinking enough water each day is one of my downfalls.
