Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Ooh, you can add me too, I LOVE dailymile! I'm Katie S. (Katie Schwinn, having the whole name will probably help you find me, I'm the one doing the bridge with one leg in the air, lol). Anyone else on dailymile, feel free to add me!

I found ya! There were a ton of Katie S's, so I'm glad you told me your last name! I sent ya a friend request. I had no idea what a bridge was until I saw your pic...I was thinking of an actual bridge! lol

Anyone know what could be causing me leg/ankle pain? I just got a new pair of shoes and have done about 3 or 4 runs in them. I noticed during the last two that my left leg was hurting a little, but in a weird place--from the side of my ankle to about half way up to my knee. I've noticed that while I feel strong on my first few run intervals, the last ones are always hard as I feel like my form and posture aren't good since I'm favoring my left leg a little. My right feels totally fine and doesn't bother me at all. It almost feels like my leg is simply just weaker. Now that I think about it, a while back, before I got the new shoes my ankles did bother me a little. So, I don't really know what's causing it. I've made sure to stretch each time, before and after. Could it be the shoes, or something else that I'm doing wrong? Or could it just be from my running time increasing? (I'm actually doing C25k.)

I live in Dublin~ the Columbus area races are awesome!
We have a lot of running/bike paths but most are pretty flat. I love the idea of Highbanks to give a little more conditioning to a run. We hike there a lot but I've not thought of running. Thanks!

If you go to the bottom of the park there is a nice flat loop along the river you can do so you are not just on the hills. Nice break on those long run days.

Are you doing the Scioto Miles races this Sunday? I am doing the 15k - really excited since it is so tough to find a 15k.

Ooops, didn't realize there were so many Missy H's!:lmao: If you can see the profile pic, I'm the one in the black running shirt wearing my Princess medal in front of the Princess background. Hopefully that will help.

I did a search for you as well, and there were 2 Barbie L's...I think I know which one you are, but didn't want to assume!

We'll find each other eventually! lol:)

I'm the one that is wearing my Cinderella blue during the Princess half and I'm posing in front of the castle!! I will go on there later and try and find you :thumbsup2 Who would have thunk there would be more than 1 Barbie L??? I'm the only Barbie I know lol!! Well, OK I know a lot of Barb's and Barbara's but that is way to formal for me!! lol!

I signed up for the TOT run a few days ago when I saw it was 94% full. I have no idea if I am going to get the vacation days I need, but I would rather lose the $100 entry fee than miss the chance to do the run.

I just have a quick question. I would like to stay at the Swan. From what I can tell the race starts at DHS right? Therefore I don't have to worry about transportation to the race? I am aware I need to make it to the expo but will use a taxi on Friday for that.

Thanks

You can walk over to Yacht & Beach Club and take the bus from there to the expo/race also. They are host hotels for the race.

I signed up yesterday for this one! I can't wait to get that medal :goodvibes

That's great to know! Thank you!:)
Most of the local events I do are 5ks. My DH does the longer runs and 1/2 Marathons. I'm just working on getting a decent time for the Expedition Everest Challenge I'm doing with my DS, lol. DH and I are doing the ToT for our 20th Anniversary trip. It's the longest race for me so far.
We'll be doing the Emerald City Quarter Maraton before that. I'm really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, our kids' schedules limit us to trying some of the events.

Have a great time with the 15K!

This is what I'll be doing - at least for the race, probably. :) I'll have my own car there so I'll drive to the expo.

I called Disney travel Friday night to make changes to a reservation. I got a CM who has done some runDisney events. She thought the participant level for TOT would be smaller in size, 12,000-15,000 people. The reason for keeping the level down, was due to the after party (park capacity at DHS).:confused3

That's interesting... I was wondering how many people would be in this race compared to other Disney races!

Wow, DH and I got in just in the nick of time! We'll be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary with this race. Can't wait!

DW and I also registered and will be celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary with this race. We're thinking of dressing up for the race. To keep with the spooky/anniversary theme, we're thinking zombie bride and groom costumes.

Have a great time with the 15K!

The 15k was fun - chilly, but fun. I clobbered my PR by 14 minutes!

Look for the Balloon Team at the Emerald City...that would be me and my sister:dance3: Come introduce yourself!

Another training question: according to my plan, I have 6 miles to do as my long run this coming weekend. I have a 5k Saturday morning. Should I do another 3 miles later in the day to make the 6 miles or just consider the 5k extra and do 6 miles on Sunday? I don't usually run back to back days. Thoughts?

It was downright cold yesterday! Great job! I'm glad it was fun!
We will look for you in August! :)

I had this happen last summer on a weekend when I had a 10k race, but my long run was a 10 miler. I found it worked great to finish the race, grab my bagel, banana etc on a quick walk to the car, drop everything in the car including pulling off my timing chip and bib and then begin my remaining 4 miles from that point. I just stayed away from the official race course and it worked great.

FYI - I did push the 10k really hard, so I made sure the last 4 for the day were at a very easy pace to balance out. I would do this again in a heartbeat since it worked so well.

Per the RunDisney website...the 10 miler is now sold out. They do have a waitlist available for anyone who didn't get in yet.

Just ran my second ever race yesterday, 5k, took 3rd in my age group, 23rd overall! 22:59. Now to start getting in more long runs, I have a 10k next month, and a 1/2 in June! Woot! :cool1: Can't wait to get out of work today and go for a nice afternoon run!

And anyone else who's on Dailymile.com feel free to add me! (just search for Katie Schwinn)

Has anyone bought the park tickets through run disney.do you recall the prices and are there different day options?
