Official Hurricane Frances Thread - Part II

I only have a client on the Sept 5th sailing so that is the info I was given for my clients. I just asked out of curiousity what the itinerary would be for the 5 day cruise. I'm sure DCL will also compensate the 5 day cruisers for the missed days on the ship.

Sounds pretty reasonable, considering the situation DCL is dealing with.

Though, I wonder why the ship board credit is $200 for the Magic, versus $300 for the Wonder. Because the Magic will be making stops?

According to earlier posts, the Wonder passengers will only be receiving $100 shipboard credit, along with a 30% refund.

Frankly it doesn't sound like too bad of a deal... I know that it's extremely disappointing and I am sorry for those who are on the short end of this, but 40% off, plus 25% off, plus $200 on-board credit is a pretty nice offer for something they have no control over.

Erin :D

Erin, I agree with you! Take the 40% refund and apply it to booking another cruise at 25% off. We all think that Disney can do anything, but we all must admit they can't control the weather:sunny:

Sorry sstucush, I wasn't trying to single you out, I've been seeing a number of people sniping at Disney for not making a decision earlier, not waiting longer to make a decision etc. etc. I think in general we have become a very self endulgent and entitlement focused society. And belive me I know how dissapointed my family and I would be, especially when you wait a year and a half for this trip. And who knows, with this seasons storm activity we might indeed share your pain:confused:

I really just want to encourage everyone whose tirp is effected by the storm, to step back and look at the bigger picutre. It seems almost trite to even have to have companies trying to figure out how to keep peoples vacations afloat when so many face significant danger. But the world still goes round and the show must go on.

Quick question for those having their trip shortened, is ship board credit being issued per passenger or stateroom. A family of five acutally make out pretty well if it is per person. That could make for a lot of extra shopping on board.

Just got off the phone with a rep from DCL and she told me the shipboard credit for the Wonder was $100.00 and it was per stateroom. That along with the 30% refund of money paid and 25% a future cruise booked before the end of this year and used by the end of next year. I'm happy with that~

The Wonder and the Magic would be in port at the same time and to expect the ship to depart at or shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Unfortunately if I was booked on one of these sailings I would not be very happy with those options. Carnival is offering 50% refund, a shipboard credit, and 50% of a future cruise - or the option to cancel and receive a full refund.

Hmmm. Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it. I am still cruising, just leaving a day later. 50% would of course be nicer but it's not anyone's fault this mother of a storm decided to come here. I'm still happy with the 30% back :)

Hey everyone! My aunt, better knows as SeaSpray, is on a Disney Cruise right now, but I'm not sure which one? It boarded last Saturday and the cruise was supposed to be ending THIS Saturday. I think one of the ports was Grand Cayman, and definitely Mexico. Would that be the Magic or the Wonder? In my un-Disney-education opinion, I think it's the Magic. Then they were planning on staying in Disney World for 2 days, until Monday! Wonder what will happen???

She would be on the Magic.

If you miss 2 days out of seven that is 2/7 or a little over 28% of your time.

To give you 30% off compensates for the missed time, AND THAN you add the onboard credit AND THAN the discount on the future cruise.

I think DCL is being more than reasonable, financially, for something that is not their fault

It is no surprise to anyone that hurricanes happen at this time of year, and that is why fares edge down at this time of year.

"You pays your money and you takes your chances" as someone once said.

Just my two cents

The 7 day carnival cruise "CARNIVAL GLORY" is being converted into a 4 day cruise. So, they are missing 3/7 or about 43% of their cruise. So, 50% is the right compensation for their situation.

Jfs9900, since you aren't booked on that sailing, why rain on anybody's parade? I think it was pointed out how this financially looks pretty fair, especially since they are not obligated to do pretty much anything. And do we know all of the detail of Carnivals changes, maybe theirs is a more extreme change.

I knew full well when I booked this cruise, it was during hurricane season. I've sailed before during the hurricane months. I'm quite satisfied with Disney's compensation, especially since this wasn't their fault. They don't have any control over the weather.

(I just reset my cruise countdown timer!) :hyper:

What is happening for all who have flights booked to fly in on Saturday? Are the airlines being cooperative about switching? What about the cost of transfering? And no doubt there ARE some people already there.......just thinking back to our cancellation in Nov. of 2002............

If in fact DCL is refunding 40% for the 9/4 cruisers who elect to sail on 9/6, a $200.00 stateroom credit, and 25% future cruise, I would be ecstatic...

Have you guys confirmed these accommodations as firm? My TA called me at 5 and had no idea...I'm on hold now with the DCL "Hurricane Team" as they were called when regular agent transferred me...been on hold now 15 minutes...

If this is all true, I'll be very psyched, since now I can book our 1/4/05 special 4 day on the Magic at a great price....

As a first time cruiser, I am wondering if when you are getting off the cruise, do they normally give you a 25% discount for your next cruise or is this just for the people cancelled?
