Official Hurricane Frances Thread - Part II

I am in St Petersburg. We were without power for 3 hours yesterday and 7 hours today but other areas have been without power since yesterday morning. After Frances went out into the gulf, the wind pushed water back on the coast and into Tampa Bay. That is what is causing the flooding. Shore Acres in St Pete was hit pretty hard with floods. Things are calming down so Clearwater should be OK. Keep trying to call as power is being restored fairly quickly. All in all, we fared very well on the central west coast of Florida.

Thanks for the updates and the explanations.
Hoping everyone is doing OK!

I'm back, anyone miss me? :smooth:

No net 44 hours, no power 40 hours, no phone 19 and a half hours, NO DAMAGE

Worked today, we lost nothing. Local Wal-mart lost all perishables/frozen. Local Publix same. Two of the three Winn-Dixies same. My WD went through 4500+ bags of ice in 4 hours.

Send Ice!

For those driving down, can't confirm where, I95 has a large sinkhole. I75 was also blocked for a bit.

Magic news, docking in Lauderdale unfortunantly the message passed to me was garbled so am unsure if that was to be today (Monday) or tomorrow. Wondering about those poor folk who parked at PC where the 124Mph gust hit :(

Don't look now but here comes Ivan the terrible.

I, my DH, my cat and my house all survived Frances. My fence took a little beating as did some plants, a couple small trees and screen door. Just got power back about an hour ago. THANK YOU POWER COMPANY WORKERS!!!!!!

It's the right shoulder of the northbound lanes in Palm Beach County, just short of the Forest Hills Blvd exit.

sillylxixx and MissJasmine, So glad to hear you guys made it through without significant damage. We're praying for similar stories from our other DisFriends.

FYI, The Magic and Wonder are docking tonight at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) and the guests will be getting off the ship tomorrow morning.

Here's the info from the DCL website:
Arrivals of both the Disney Magic, which departed on Saturday, August 28th and the Disney Wonder, which departed on Thursday, September 2, have been delayed to the late evening of Monday September 6th at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. Guests will be able to disembark Tuesday morning. Transportation will provided back to Orlando International Airport, The Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral for guests to pick up their personal vehicles. A shuttle will also be available to transport guests to Ft. Lauderdale airport, or other south Florida airports, if necessary.

Thanks Dave and CM_Mom ::yes::

Please CM_Mom keep an eye on Ivan. Historically hurricanes forming down there either go to you or to the Carolina's.

Bonnie. Charley. Francis. Ivan??? Think I'll move to New Mexico...

sillylxix, thanks for thinking of us but I'm not worried about Hurricanes here since Plano is a little north of Dallas. That's a whole lot of Texas to cross to get here. The worst we get is rain and our part of town is high enough that we don't have flooding although some parts of Dallas near the Trinity River do get flooding when we have heavy rains.

Unfortunately, if IVAN heads for the Texas coast the folks in Galveston/Houston or Corpus Christi might be in for it.

I think we need to pray that Ivan goes the way of Earl and just fizzles out!

FYI, in New Mexico they have dust storms and fires. I think I'd stay put.

A little of topic but what was the "H" hurricane/tropical storm name? I know Frances, Gaston, H?, Ivan. What was the H? Just curious.

But spelled wrong; they spelled it Hermine

hello there thanks for the update been a bit worried here back in South Africa hearing about the Hurricanes on the news and radio broadcast's and not hearing from my sister who is aboard the magic as a staff member. I am not sure if you know her, her name is Moreshnie (she-she) as she is known on the ship. She is a character, i think :-) If you do know her could you please pass a message along to her, that i love her lots and miss her tons and so glad to hear that all is well aboard the magic.

It's from her sister back in Cape Town South Africa, Saloshini

When we were on the MAGIC in the fall of 2002 we met She-she. She was a go-getter of a staff member on the Cruise Director's Staff. Leader of parties and activities for adults. A real sweetheart. I wonder if that is the same young lady.

Sounds like everyone did well on the extended cruise and that Captain Tom did what he does best, sailing around looking for sun and avoiding rough water whenever possible.

yes it's the very same one, she's been aboard the magic for last 2 years we miss her terribly back home but knowing that she completley loves what she does makes it all the better. thank you for responding .

Last count for Pinellas County - 102,000 still without power. At one point it was over 600,000. Hillsborough has over 165,000 still without power. Progress Energy handles Pinellas and sai it may take until Friday depending on the damage to restore all Pinellas. TECO in Hillsborough said it may take 10-14 days for them. Damage in Pinellas other than flooding ranges from numerous large trees down on top of everything from fences to house to streets and roofs damaged and leaks. We sustained winds of 55 mph at the peak of the storm on Monday morning when most of the power failures occurred in Pinellas with gusts up to hurricane strength.

Don't forget us in DEEP SOUTH TX, in the Rio Grande Valley (just inland of South Padre Island and just before you cross into Mexico~I know some of you spring breakers have had to have been down here before!;) ). We are "long overdue" for a hurricane & I am definitely keeping an eye on Ivan! We are on the Sept 19th Wonder and am worried about making it (flying) into Orlando with all this crazy weather! GO AWAY IVAN!
