Official 'how to get from point A to point B while at WDW' thread.

Hi!

Thank you to all who post on here - all these answers are so helpful!!

I apologize if this has been answered, but we're going to be in Disney in September and one of the days, we're going to DHS for EMH in the morning, then going to the T-REX Cafe in DTD for a 1:45pm ADR.

So what is the easiest/fastest way to get from DHS to DTD? Or should I change my plans?

TIA!!! :goodvibes
Using Disney Transport, the best way would be bus from DHS to POFQ, and bus from there to DTD. You should allow 1 hour 15 minutes from the DHS bus load zone.

Fastest if you're willing to pay about $10 would be by taxi. Probably 15 to 20 minutes or so at that time of day.

Does anyone know the best way to get from AKL to GF or Contemporary? Is there a bus from AKL that goes to the TTC?

Thanks in advance!!! :thumbsup2

You need to take the bus from AKL to MK. From there take the ferry (or monorail) to get to GF. You can walk from MK to the Contemporary.

Sorry, I'm new to the bus system, so forgive me if I'm asking a simple question. How early the buses start running? I'm looking to get from the YC to the MK, but I want to be there at least by 8:30 (if not earlier) for a 9 am opening in August. I looked on the Dis Transportation page and it said buses start 60-90 minutes before park opening. Can anyone provide any more specific info or guidance? TIA!!! :wizard:

Okay, I've read thru 20 pages of posts, and my eyes are going buggy and my brain hurts. All the abbreviations are confusing me, so I'm going to ask if I understand the transportation stuff correctly.

We are staying on site for the first time ever, at All Star Movies. Am I correct in understanding that I go to a bus stop at my resort, and I can catch a bus to any of the parks, DTD, or the TTC. Okay so far?

Now if I am at DTD for example, how do I get to a park? Will a bus for the various parks pick me up at DTD or do I have to always go back to the TTC and connect with another bus going to the park I want to get to? How about if I want to hop from one park to another?

Most of the days we'll just go from our resort to one park then back, so it probably will be self explanatory (I hope)

There is one day that will be a bit more complicated: I think we are going to want to go from All Star Movies to either DTD or one of the water parks. Then we want to go to MK in the evening. So what do I need to do, and how long will it take? We need to be at MK around or shortly after 4 for MNSSHP.

How long after park closing do the busses run?

Thanks.

I'm in a similar situation as scrapquitler, however, I have slightly different questions ...

I'm wondering about HOW LONG it takes to get to the various parks. I'm also staying at the All Star Movies Resort.

MK - I'd like to make it to rope drop
HS - Also, like to make it to rope drop

How long does it take to get to MK, HS, AK and TL from our resort?

Also, we will be going to the GF for an ADR from AK via bus. How long is this trip?

The buses start running, from resort to parks, by 6:30am. They don't quite as frequently as the regular park buses do..so plan accordingly. If you just miss the bus, you could face a 25 min wait for the next one. If you want to b at MK by 8:30, be out at the bus stop by 7:45.

Buses do not run to the TTC. But you can catch a bus, from your resort, to all the parks as well as DTD.
If you are at DTD and want to get to a park, you are going to have to go to a resort and then to a park from there. For instance...if you are at DTD and want to get to MK....bus to Contemporary Resort (CR) and then walk over to MK via the sidewalk, or monorail, but walking is faster. If you want to get to DHS, take the bus to Boardwalk (BW) and then either walk (again, via the sidewalk) or the boat to DHS. Same thing to get to Epcot. If you want to go to AK, take a bus to Animal Kiingdom Lodge (AKL) and then bus to AK.

To get to MK from DTD or a water park, just take the bus to the CR (Contemporary Resort). You should leave about 3ish if you want to be at MK by 4.
It's always a good idea to plan on it taking an hour to get from DTD to a park...it isn't a quick process.

The buses run for about 2 hrs after the parks close.

Plan to leave your resort an hour before park opening to be there for rope drop. I would assume that you want to be among the first to enter the park. If you wait until 30 mins prior to park opening, you are going to have a ton of company at the bus stops.
It usually takes about 15-20 mins to get to most parks from the AllStars....and it could very well be less in some instances.
For your GF trip, plan on about 45 mins. The actual ride is shorter but you have to take any wait times into consideration.

That is enough to ease my mind and get me ready. I was just nervous because of the 'unknown' ;) I have a basic idea now and I'm sure that I'll be able to figure it out from there. If I have more questions, I'll be back.

:hug::hug::hug: Thank you so much! This helps me so much with planning, thank you!

The buses run for about 2 hrs after the parks close.
Specifically, buses run from the parks until the last guest has left the park. That could be anywhere from 1 hour after closing, on a cold winter night or after very late EMH, to 3 or more hours after closing on a summer weekend or a holiday.

At AK, buses continue to run until the last guest has also left the Rainforest Cafe, which is outside the park gate and is usually open 1 hour later than the park.

Buses to the park stop running at park closing. Buses will still be bringing guests back to the resorts, but they generally will not pick up guests at the resorts to take back to the park, unless you can convince the driver that your car is parked at the park.

Buses from DTD run until 2 a.m. DTD is your designated transfer point when traveling between resorts on nights when all parks close early.

Really??? Learn something new every day. See, I don't know everything. Thanks.

And yep, I realize they run buses until the last guest is out, but figured I would stick with that 2 hrs in order to allow the poor bus drivers to go home!!

My bestfriend and I (no kids, fast walkers) are going to be at Epcot until immediately following the 9:00 Illuminations and hoping to make it to Hollywood for the 10:30 Fantasmic......Possible or impossible? If possible what route do you suggest?

Distance from the UK bridge in World Showcase to Hollywood Hills Ampitheater in DHS is about 1.5 mi. Illuminations finishes about 9:15.

So if y'all stake out a position near the bridge for Illuminations, and you can walk the 1.5 mi. in 30 minutes, you should be able to get to F! by 9:45-10:00.

With F! playing every night now, and based on past years when F! was playing twice a night every night, that will likely be early enough to get into the 2nd show.

Thank you! One more.. hehe. Would it be faster/shorter to take the boat instead of walking?

Walking is almost always faster. I was at Epcot, watching IllumiNations..our last night to do so. BUT...I also needed to get over to DHS to see the Osborne LIghts as well, but DHS closed at 10!!! I made it, from Epcot, with a stop in my villa at BW to grab a sweatshirt, to DHS entrance in about 18 mins...but I was cranking!!! I could barely breath by the time I got there. I would have been smarter to not stop in my room!!!

Glad to have discovered this thread on Dis. We are going from AKL to Olivia's (for lunch) at OKW, but this I guess can only be done by way of busses. So my question is that after we are done dining at Olivia's, we are going to be heading to DHS. Is there a boat that can take us to there from Olivia's?

TIA

Sorry, but no, your only option would be to take a bus from the HH area bus stop ( just outside of Olivas ) to DHS.
If you're in a hurry a taxi will get you there quicker.

Thanks all :thumbsup2
And of course I have another question.....lol.
When leaving through International Gateway (on foot) are there signs pointing us to the trail to H.Studios? And are they lit up?
