Official 'how to get from point A to point B while at WDW' thread.

We are staying at Carribean Beach resort and Have 5.00pm Ressies at Hoop DEE DOO review at FORT Wilderness...

What time should we stand out to get a BUS at our Resort and What route should we take??

THANKS

This is my first time posting here ... I have learned a ton of great tips reading thru most of these posts!
My question relates to an early ressie at CM. 7:25 to be exact  We are staying at Pop. So we need to be on the bus to MK by 6:30. We can hope the driver will take us directly there ... if not, is it best to walk? I was looking at the walking path on Robo's site. Is the bus drop off at MK where the arrows point to Disney Resort Buses?
I thought about taking a taxi, but I'm not sure how that would work. There are 5 of us, and my son will only be 3.5, so he needs to be in a car seat. We will have his from the plane ride, but certainly don't want to lug that around! Don't know if its legal for him to ride w/out a seat in FL, or if I would feel comfortable with it. How long would the taxi take and approx. how much?
THANKS!!

Not sure about the FL laws regarding car seats and restaints, but you could easily search that out on the internet.
As far as cab fare figure, $20-$23 plus tip and shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes

the MK bus stops to The Contemporary is probably 5-7 minutes tops along a very safe, lovely walkway. I would absolutely recommend it as a quick way to get to the Contemporary. Have a wonderful trip.

I would get the bus to MK around 3:45. Why so early??? Because you just can't tell when a bus is coming along to your resort. If you get there at 3:45, a bus will probably just be rolling up. BUT, if you wait until 4:00, your luck would have you just missing the bus, as it drives away...leaving you with a 20 min wait for the next one.
Get there early and you won't have to worry. Get there at 3:45ish, bus to MK. Then head right over to the boat docks. Get in line for the FtW boat. It should be at least 4:15 at this point. You should be able to be at HDDR by 4:40. You want to be early. Get off the boat at FtW and walk up the path to Pioneer Hall...takes about 3 mins.

Be out at the MK bus stop no later than 6:30. When you get on the bus, ask the bus driver which i faster to the CR, walking or the monorail. The driver may very well offer to drop you off at the CR. If so, great.
If you don't get that offer, get off the bus at MK, then walk towards the entrance of MK, but as you get to the end of the bus driveway, stay to the right and go around, following beneath the monorail beam above you. The driveway will be on your right, the park on your left. Follow the sidewalk to the traffic lights, cross that street (with the pedestrian light) and trek on over to the CR..takes less than 10 mins.

If you decide to take a cab, have one called for you. Be sure they know that you have a little one. You may be able to get one with a car seat. But, to the best of my knowledge, I don't think he 'has' to be in one in a cab..but I could very well be wrong. It should take you about 15 mins by cab.

In Florida, children 3 and under must be in a car seat in all vehicles, except for public buses.

Since the child is 3.5, it's legal to not be in a car seat. Of course, that doesn't mean the family is comfortable with that...so, should still let the cab company know they need a car seat.
Thanks for that info.

No, it's 3 and under, not under 3.

Thanks for the replies!!
I knew FL had pretty crappy car seat laws, but didn't realize how bad till I looked them up. We will just take the bus and walk over from MK.

Thought it would be cool to go to Crystal Palace for breakfast before opening but didn't think about the transportation issue..oops. Can we get from Fort Wilderness to MK an hour before park opening on park transportation or will we need to taxi? (and what is a water taxi?)

The boat to the MK will not be running, but the boat from FW to the Contemporary Resort starts around 7 a.m. It's a 10 minute walk from the Contemporary to MK.

The FW internal buses start around 6:30 a.m., if you're not within easy walking distance of the dock and you're not getting a golf cart.

How long does it take to get to Epcot (international gateway) from HS via boat?

would it be shorter to drive from HS to Beach Club and then walk to the International Gateway?

About 20 minutes. It takes about the same amount of time to walk.

Probably not. You would also need to pay to valet park, because regular parking is only for guests of the hotel or people with reservations there.

20-25 mins, not including any possible wait times. If the boat is just leaving the DHS dock, then add on 15 mins for wait times. If you walk, it should take you slightly less time. I left the boat dock area at Intl Gateway at the same time the boat did. The CMs were yelling at my friend and I that another boat would be along in 15 mins. Nope, we yelled back...we'll walk, and beat you!!. They yelled back..no way!! Yeah, they arrived at BW about a min before we did (first stop for that boat). We watched it as it putted across the lake towards YC/BC...that was the last time we saw it until we got to DHS. We saw it coming around the bend in the canal as we approached bag check. Those on the boat would be at bag check about 8 mins later!!! Hah!!!

If you were to drive to BC, you would have to pay to valet park..self parking is not provided for park access unless you are staying at that resort. Why not just drive to Epcot and park there?? Of course, it would take about 10 mins to drive there, then another 15 or so to walk back to WS. May just as well walk or take the boat.

MK to DTD? How do you get there? Thanks!
You just need to get to any Disney resort hotel to catch the DTD bus.

Easiest from MK is to walk 1/2 mile to the Contemporary Resort, or ride the Resort Monorail to it.

For variety, you could ride the boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, or Polynesian and catch the DTD bus there, or take the bus from MK to Port Orleans French Quarter and ride the boat from there to DTD.

You can also do a walk on the other end: take the bus to Saratoga Springs, get off at the Congress Park station, and it's a 1/2 mile walk to DTD Mktplace.

The monorail sounds fun. Can you catch it at MK and take it to a resort and then from the resort take a bus to DTD? Sorry if I sound lost....lol. Most times we're just going from our hotel tot he park and back ~ it's only one day I'm being complicated :)

Absolutely! Get off at any of the 3 monorail resorts. Contemporary is the 1st stop, or stay on until Grand Floridian for the longest ride.

Riding all the way to GF will add only 5-10 minutes to the entire trip.
