Official Dopey 2018 Thread

Thanks for the responses concerning the plans! My plan calls for no PR for any race. Just finish in a somewhat reasonable fashion and in the upright position. I agree that Higdon's plan does seem to have a ton of mileage just starting at week 1 and I am hesitant to follow it because its just so much running (but who am I kidding...I did just sign up for Dopey). I have found that I do a lot better during training if I have something that I can go by each week instead of just winging it like I did a few years ago so I was curious to what worked well for people.

Personally, I used Higdon's plan for Dopey in 2016 (altered slightly based on travel and other races) and it worked out incredibly well for me. I was just coming off a half marathon when registration opened, so I started my plan the week of registration and ran my 13-mile Week 1 long run in April as my second-ever half marathon and then just repeated between Weeks 2 and 3 until it was time for the plan to start.

It IS a lot of mileage - but by November, I ran a PR 10K (by about 15 minutes) and a PR 10-miler that is my current standing PoT for ALL races. I ran the 5K of Dopey in a RunDisney PR time for me, and nearly overall PR'd the 10K before I realized I was being a dummy and still had two races left to go.

I'm attaching my training plan, if you're curious! @FFigawi helped me modify it to suit my training needs.

@Keels this is such a great training plan! Thank you for posting it! I especially like how the day after the Dopey is for drinking! I can get on board with that for sure!

Thanks!!

So, in the early weeks you'll see run days that say things like "3+" ... the idea behind the + was to put in 30 minutes (minimum) of an alternative activity along with the run - for me, it was usually biking and/or weights. Sometimes swimming. But I tried to stick to something that was aerobic over straight weight lifting. But you surely can do both!

I also tweaked things up as I went - I spent a few weeks down with injury in July, and then I also ended up doing ANOTHER sim weekend in Florida to acclimate to the weather.

@Keels thanks for sharing that plan. I have used Higdon for my halves, and plan to use it for my full in the fall and eventually Dopey. It helps to see how you modified things to make room for other races. Quick question - what was the speed+ workout? Something you added or something from Higdon I have not come across in the plans I've used?

Just signed up for Dopey!!!! 3rd time for 26.2 at the world, (one by itself, and one as Goofy).
So excited to be running with Team Homes For Our Troops again this year.

Happy training everyone. 11 more months from today til the expo opens. LOL

In for Dopey '18! Trying to figure out how to register right now! (I'll look through the thread...the only thing I know of is the RW VIP...)

Ah, just saw the link! We did the 2017 half (well, sort of...registered and ran the unofficial at the Boardwalk!) but I didn't know about the pre-reg. :( I hope I get in for Dopey!

Cute story from yesterday - my friend Angela who came to spectate Marathon Weekend this year asked when we had to book for 2018.

Me: Wait. You're in again? I'm booking the hotel tomorrow!
A: Hell yeah, I am. All those runners need the best cheerleader Disney has even seen to support them!

So, the tradition of the beer at Mile 5 of the 10K will live on for another year!

Thanks @Keels for posting your plan! I think I am going to use Higdon's Dopey plan but modify it some (change five days of running to four and scaling back the long run distance starting off at the beginning of the plan, etc).

According to a Facebook post someone emailed Disney regarding perfect Dopey status and got a response that the only "perfect" status they recognize is Goofy. So take the for what its worth regarding the 5th anniversary next year.

Considering they still recognize people who are perfectly Mickey, I am not sure I believe the response from rD.

And they recognized whichever of Princess or Tink that had its 5th within the past year.

I'm not too concerned over whether they formally recognize Perfect Dopey. I was kind I hoping, once up a time, that they would give us early or guaranteed registration; but that doesn't appear to be much of an issue any more. It would be cool if they do something to recognize it, but I'll be proud of my achievement either way.
