Official Dopey 2018 Thread

I think rD issues these links to help those of us that are obsessed with getting into a race, have a chance to do it and not have to worry about 'normal' early registration or registration :D They know we lurk and search for info so know we're going to find out these things even if we didnt get the email :D :D

Forgive me if this question has been asked before, (I can't find it or don't know how to search for it), but if you do the Dopey challenge does the 16 min/mile pace apply in the 5k as well? My mother would like to do the 5k, but walk it (she walks slower than 16 min/mile pace) and I wasn't sure if I could walk it with her.

I've seen Dopey Challenge participants finish the 5K in over an hour and I don't believe any of them were denied medals. In most of those cases I believe it was because of stopping for characters and walking with kids or relatives. I believe that as long as you finish you should be fine.

I asked the same question going into the 2017 races and got this answer, however the verbiage was changed before those races which had everyone believing that this may no longer be the case. As a result I left my rD group before the end of the 5k and 10k so I could finish the races under the 16 minute/mile limit "just in case". And I am not sure that they even checked times this year when handing out Dopey medals given the cancellation of the half marathon. But they did report my 5k and 10k finish times as a Dopey finisher, so they might have?

I guess what I am saying is that I am not sure if this is still the case.

I would always try to keep the 16/mile pace no matter what as a precaution. I would hate to lose my medals because I walked the 5k! That said - the 5k will be a 15/mile for me so I don't exhaust myself day 1. Slowest 5k ever! :rotfl:

This year I did the 5k in 54 minutes with my 9 year old daughter. First race ever over the 16 minute average pace. I still received all the medals and am listed in the Dopey finishers list. I'll know next year if I am officially considered a finisher and still "perfect" for Dopey. Past practice is crossing finish line = finisher, even if over 16 minute average pace.

Mentioned this over at the marathon thread but my fear of getting kicked out later if I used the link for this year's marathon weekend participants got the best of me. Fortunately RawThreads loaded up their links today so I was able to get in for Dopey.

As a member of their run club are you able to cancel without penalty?

You're essentially registering through them as a broker. They're just adding you to their team - so it's like signing up normally. Same rules apply as signing up via Disney.

I would have done RawThreads but I wanted the $10 discount. If Disney kicks me out I'll just sign up again via RawThreads.

PS: Their marathon is sold out but all other races are still open.

I get the appeal of that. I just know people haven't gotten kicked out until after the regular registration date when they signed up through DVC/AP when they weren't. It was on a race that sold out quickly so they couldn't register which was my biggest fear. Since you can just re-register through Raw Threads given they don't sell out as fast it's probably not as big of a deal. I'm away when regular registration opens though and may not have a good enough connection to register. That combo is what led me to skip the $10.

Okay, this is the first I've heard of this Raw Threads. So they're a broker and you running on their 'team'? Anyone have more info or the link? Just curious. Thanks!!

I am a member of their club - membership is $125 for the first year and I can register for all the races I want. And two friends can register for each race with my membership.

You join as part of their team. Price is about the same as rundisney directly - so you're paying $125 for the year for access --- plus perks of raw threads merch discounts and misc goodies.

So it allows me to register when I want. But I pay $125 or that access.

Does anybody have the corral placement (predicted times) for this past WDW marathon weekend? I'm trying to see where I would be placed, and am currently trying to improve my time to submit a POT.

Ahhh, okay. Very interesting. So, I'm assuming with the membership, you're guaranteed you bibs? Is there an official time to register or, for instance, what if I'm not sure about a race and want to sign up two months before the actual race? Not bad they include that two friends can sign up for races as well. Do you have to be signed up for a race in order for them to?

Thanks again.

Friends can sign up for races or distances I am not doing.

And yes! You could have signed up fur princess up until two weeks ago. You have to submit your proof of time at late registration and you'll get put into the correct corrals.

It's a good program for people who can't sign up right away and want to wait.
