Official Dopey 2018 Thread

Time to update the spreadsheet, XACT had me starting at 5:45 from corral D (I was near the back so maybe 5:44 for those at the front).

Good call. I was in B this year and toed the line with a start of 5:39. So it looks like it was off by a hair. I'll fix it for next year.

My guess is they either have a limited amount of these early registrations they are offering, or they don't care who gets the link. Either way, it helps RD know what kind of demand they might have for next year prior to AP and DVC registration opening up in a couple weeks.

I don't really think they care who gets the link, but I would hope they were smart enough to limit the number of registrations. I don't think they want to get to general registration with races sold out. They could get into that situation with the 5K and 10K pretty easily.

True about the 5K and 10K. They are probably doing something similar to what they do with AP and DVC registrations. They might only have 10% of total spots available via this early registration link. When they are gone, then everyone has to wait for normal registration to open up.

Yep that could be dangerous and have people upset.

Thanks for your replies. @jeanigor, after reading your experience with the off property issues, I think on property is the way to go. Are there hotels that people prefer for their proximity to Epcot? Also, how many minutes is it between each of the corrals being let go?

There are lots of reasons to stay on-site, so don't want to dissuade you but did want you to know we've participated in 2 Marathon weekends where we stayed off-site and had no problems at all and, in fact, for us in some respects it was easier/better. I think the key is to leave early to get to Epcot so you avoid any traffic delays. We have usually left our condo around 3 (staying at Windsor Hills and Emerald Island and been in the parking lot and situated within about 15-20 minutes. It's nice too having a car because you can sit and relax in the car until time to walk to the corrals (that would have been nice to have this past race weekend when it was so stinking cold). Anyway, as I said, onsite is great too, but did want you to know that we've had very good luck staying offsite but an early travel plan is key.

+1 for having no issues staying offsite. I haven't stayed onsite in ages, and even when I do I drive to the races - I leave within 15 minutes of when buses start running and have never had traffic issues. Couldn't be easier!
