Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

I just got back from Disneyland a week ago. I ordered this cake from Chef Ramirez at the Grand Californian hotel and spa. It was beautiful. Exactly how I dreamed and better. The flavor was a sponge cake with one layer of pineapple mousse filling, and the other layer a mango mousse. He even made the inside of the cake rainbow colored for added fun! Total cost with tax $130. I personally designed this and sent the drawing to the chef.

At that price, that cake blows WDW's away. I guess they don't get as many requests. WDW seems to be getting overwhelmed with orders. They appear to be raising prices often & taking less time on the cakes. We can probably thank the DIS for that.

Thank you! Yeah, they actually dont publicize it at all, and according to the chef, they never do this for any occassion other than weddings. I was super lucky. The price was great. It was above my budget but I didnt care because it was amazing! haha. It was so moist and delicious and had everyone around my table staring. I couldnt finish it, or bring it home, so I left a note for housekeeping when I checked out to eat it. haha.

That cake is the most gorgeous cake I've ever seen! I am just in awe from the beauty! You see, this is the level of gorgeousness and detail I want from WDW's bakeries (more specifically, CR's bakery), especially since I have something in mind (specifically detailed down to the swirls and sparkles ) I can only hope I'll be able to have my cake look even HALF as pretty as yours!

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with Pat? I've seen a number of negative stories on here (which is odd- since it's very non-Disneyish), and while I was hoping for the best- she's making the cake ordering process very difficult for my friend. She's trying to pull the whole "we can't do anything but chocolate and vanilla" deal (they want lemon cake w/buttercream), she seems to be beyond confused with the cake instructions (and it's a fairly simple cake- had several non-cake people read the written directions and said it made perfect sense even without my sketch), she's given two totally different quotes on the same cake over the course of a day, she asked her to email the sketch and instructions but doesn't seem to know how to use the magnify feature to clear up some of the details on the sketch, she says they can't do a moon stamp in the decorations- but I don't understand why fondant cutout moons aren't a suggested option (i.e. this is about what she can't do vs. alternative solutions to make it work), and she's taken my friend's credit card info twice and is now asking for it a third time (which has my friend in "what is this woman doing with my CC info). SHe's about a week and a half out from the date where she needs the cake and she's gone from nervous about the whole process to pretty angry. Any thoughts?

Good luck! I dealt with Pat for a custom fancy cake for our past trip (11/25-12/01) and she messed the entire order up. I had ordered a Lilo and Stitch cake to be delivered to our breakfast at 'Ohana and she put the wrong date down so we didn't get a cake. This was after emails to pick which cake I wanted and where (debated between breakfast at 'Ohana and dinner at Narcoossee's) and for how much. She quoted me different prices for the same cake, however let me pick the cake flavor and fillings (upcharged for bavarian cream and strawberry filling). Needless to say, the cake never was as she had the wrong date down and while I was on the phone with her also discovered that she mixed up the names and what we were celebrating as well. She seemed greatly overwhelmed. Maybe they need to hire her some help? Next trip I'll give her another chance as the cakes she made for our 2010 trip were fabulous.

Thank you. I designed it all. I love fairytales and the oceans so I designed it down to the hidden mickies if you can see them in the pictures. haha. Disneyland made my birthday perfect with this cake

I had a difficult time stopping taking pictures. I closed my eyes and had my waiter remove the cake and cut it for me.

I'm not sure who we dealt with, but things were very smooth. I wanted a Lilo & Stitch b-day cake for my DDs 5th birthday at Citricos. It had to be gluten-free.

At first she suggested a Mickey Cake, but when I explained that my DD wanted Lilo & Stitch she was a bit short and said it would cost more. I said no worries I want an awesome cake. She did explain that the fondant is likely not an option so we'd have buttercream (I'm okay with that b/c I LOVE butter cream). DD also wanted Chocolate, chocolate & more Chocolate.

She said she'd check into things and let me know if there were any problems or if it would end up significantly over $100. I never heard back from her.

I'd intended to call while we were there to make sure everything was okay, but I forgot. So we arrived at Citricos a bit early to make sure it was there - no problem. We were told it wasn't actually in the restaurant yet, but it was in the building in a gluten-free area and would be available for dinner.

Our waitress was fabulous and lit the candles, brought the cake out - re lit the candles twice since DD was a bit excited and prematurely blew them out a couple times. After pictures she then took the cake cut enough for everyone at the table and boxed the rest, separating the chocolate and other decorations from the cake.

The final price tag was $80. Which we were impressed with since we've paid up to $150 for a cake that was no where near as nice or tasty. But Gluten free is expensive.

I just ordered one of the CRT Princess Packages that lurky-loo posted about a few pages ago. I have to say, the ordering process was very smooth and professional. And fun! The email response I received addressed me as "Lady," so what's not to love about that! I hope it turns out as smoothly in person. Can't wait to see DD's face on her birthday!

Holy cow, that seems like a hefty price for that cake. how big was it? I guess WDW is significantly more than DL.

I'm guessing...b/c when I saw your cake (before seeing the price) - I figured you paid $350-450 (no less than $250 if you got a really low quote). It's a lovely cake! I make cakes on the side and I would feel like I was giving it away at the price you paid. Hey- gotta love saving some $!!!

It was a 9 or 10 in cake - def bigger than 8 in. We ate half at the table (10 ppl) and took the rest to the room. I wish I'd taken photos of the flowers, they were so well made and gorgeous!

$80 was a steal for the cake - when we paid $150 it was a non-Disney cake - sheet cake with some sculpting on the side - then we topped it with a homemade dragon (How to Train Your Dragon). Not worth the price.

This Lilo & Stitch Cake was perfect and Gluten-free!

I do cakes on the side too. I told the chef that and that I wanted something beyond my skill level. he was amazing. Im surprised that the 10 inch was as big as it was.

Me and my parents are travelling to the world on this christmas/new year's eve and on the 31th we're having dinner at Nine Dragons to celebrate my mother's birthday, which happens to be on the new year's eve!! =D
So I'm thinking about ordering her a cake, perharps a fancy one.
From what I understood from Lurkyloo FAQ the Beach & Yachtsman bakery can deliver to Nine Dragons. Is that correct?
Also, can I place the order with only ONE phone call? Since we live in Brazil, I believe they are NOT calling me back lol.Should I call private dinning?
