On our recent trip (12/10 - 12/15) my Dbf surprised me with this amazing cake of my favorite Disney characters!

The filling was a delicious chocolate fudge with yellow cake. There was a mix up with the order, originally it was supposed to be chocolate cake with cannoli cream filling (my favorite), but this was just as delicious! That and the Boardwalk Bakery comped the cake for the mix-up!

Looks like your family had some fantastic sweets! The half pink/ half blue cake is so cute for a Sleeping Beauty fan. I love how the fairies keep up the "make it pink/make it blue" battle with her dress all the way until the end of Sleeping Beauty. Very clever. :)

I'm so excited! I can finally share this! I ordered a cake over the summer for our 10th anniversary dinner tonight... we had a dinner reservation at the California Grill, and I ordered a custom cake from the legendary Brian. I'm not really posting during our trip otherwise, but I wanted to share this! DH was so excited.

It was supposed to be Wilderness Lodge Winter (hence the brown fondant), and it was red velvet with cream cheese icing :)

I am thinking it would be easiest to have a cake sent to the room at YC for a surprise for MIL but am worried about the variables.

Is there a particular time of day they tend to put cakes in the room? Can we have a cake delivered the evening we check in (we're doing a split-stay and moving from POR to YC)?

Also, if they put a cake in the room, do we need to worry about 'wilting'?

Thanks for any info!!!

We had a cake delivered to the room at YC. I requested the time we wanted it delivered. It was also on our check in day (night). We were going out for dinner so I requested that it be delivered around 6pm, so that it was in the room for dessert and as a surprise when we got back to the room.

It was sitting on a room service trolley/tray and came with plates, cutlery, candles, etc. The cake was in perfect condition and was not affected by any heat (it was HOT outside, but freezing in the room, thanks to the aircon). Here is a link to photos of the cake.

Thanks so much for this! Your cake was awesome! I love the swirl on the lettering and the details are just great!
It's also good to know it didn't 'wilt' -- we're going to be there in late June and I know how Florida heat and humidity can make ME melt... let alone the cake!

Ordered from Contemporary. Spoke to a rude CM when ordering but I got her to confirm exactly what we wanted which consisted of two cakes with NO flowers. I was more than exited about ordering and was very nice to her but she must have had a bad day, I let it go. When the cakes where delivered to our room the fondant had a huge bubble on the front top layer and we hired a photographer for a few hours for our Daughters 1st birthday party. Needless to say we had no time to re-do the cake. They sent a nice person to our room to try and fix. His only option was to use flowers and it did not look too bad and we did not have another option. We ordered fresh fruit on both layers for the big cake and it was made with none. The mini Minnie cake was just for my Daughter and was carrot cake and we found out after she started eating it that it had peanuts! We never heard of carrot cake with peanuts but I guess they do that down south? They knew it was for a 1 year old but never told us. You think they would have common sense to tell people that there are nuts in the cake. Anyway, my Daughter did not have an allergic reaction and she had a blast but for almost $500 I was not too happy.

The next day I went to front desk and spoke to a great manager who took the cost of the cake off our bill. We still had to pay sixty or so dollars for the tip but I was fine with that. We will most likely not order a cake from the Contemporary and stick with The Grand Floridian Bakery.

So judging by the info given on the info post, I'm guessing you are able to get a Fancy cake at Pop Century? It mentions that the rest besides the first piece of info that it is same as BoardWalk Inn and I noticed that BoardWalk Offers Fancy cakes:
BoardWalk Inn
Fancy, fondant-covered cakes start at $75; additional flavors may be available

Is that true? Because I'd like to try and get a fancy cake at Pop Century if I can. Thanks!

Our perfect Wedding cake from GF

I'm sorry it wasn't the way you wanted it. But I think they are beautiful cakes!!! Even with the flowers. And the pics of your daughter with the cake are absolutely precious!!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. The way to get exactly what you want at the Contemporary (and basically anywhere else on property except the Grand Floridian, where it's difficult to get to speak to the pastry chefs) is to speak directly with the pastry chef who will be making your cake. Then when you call in your order to Private Dining, you can be sure the chef will know exactly what you want and not rely solely on what the private dining CM writes down. :thumbsup2

Yes, just be sure you call the number listed to order it through Pop Century's food court—if you try to order it directly from BoadWalk Bakery they'll tell you they don't deliver.

Hi,

I'm new to posting but have been to Disney for the past 16years. :yay:

I have a question about having a fancy cake made for our Cape May breakfast. Has anyone had one made for Cape May and was it fresh and delicious?
I've read through the whole thread and couldn't find specifics about Cape May and the bakery they use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :flower3:

Cape May uses Yacht/Beach Club bakery. We didn't have a cake at Cape May, but we did have one to our room at Yacht Club and it was fabulous, delicious and exactly what we ordered.

I ordered a Pirate cake for my son. Here is a link. There are two cakes, the castle one from Grand Floridian and then the pirate one from Yacht Club.

Thanks again:)
They are beautiful cakes and look sooo delicious.
If you don't mind me asking could you tell me the size and price?

I was hoping to get a 6 inch Mermaid themed custom cake and I'm waiting for a quote and I hope it's not too pricey:confused3
The women I spoke with said they usually do white with white filling and to get white w/ chocolate filling will cost more etc.

Oh well... I quess I'll wait for their quote and go from there.

Thanks again for your help
Liz

Sorry, I don't remember the size, but it was quite big (maybe 10 or 12 inch). Actually, come to think about it, I didn't ask for a size, just the filling that I wanted and they type of cake. It was chocolate cake, chocolate mousse filling and chocolate buttercream, with some sort of chocolate fondant on the top. The decorations were amazing. It was $125 delivered to the room.
