Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

when i spoke to them on the phone about the first cake i thought i wanted, it was a cake with the solid white chocolate mickey mouse on it and it was painted for detail. they told me 135.00, that was just a few weeks ago as my b-day is not until dec. i've since changed my mind for a Christmas looking cake and it will be 145. it sounds like they might be misunderstanding what you want.

I did send them the photo. I just don't want a one dimensional sugar pastry that's painted. I orginally wanted a splash mountain cake that I saw here, but that's going to be $200.00 and I just can't justify that on a cake for a birthday. I'm just getting frustrated that they are not giving me much info, just quick short responses that isn't very helpful. I will have to email again and see if I can get more info.

Forgot to add that I am looking for the painted Mickey on top of the cake, I;m new here, so I can't post pics yet!

This was my DDs cake at California Grille this month. Brian is amazing and did a brilliant job. Copied from another cake from this thread that Brian had made.

Really pleased with the cake:thumbsup2

This is what I think I may go with but am still getting conflicting info.

yours was one I sent them to base it off of. The sous chef said he recognized it as one of his cakes!!!!!!

LOL, that's so cool!!! And nice that they decided they were overcharging too. That cake got lot's of attention from the servers and kitchen staff. It was very tasty too!

I called Pat at the GF yesterday to order a cake for DD10 birthday for our next trip. I'm still waiting for the call back. DD is an Irish dancer and I was trying to figure out how to incorporate that into the cake.....and then I had an epiphany!

I'm going to ask if they can take one of those white chocolate Minnie Mouse toppers and paint her so she looks like she's wearing my daughter's Irish dance dress. Minnie's dress is the perfect style for a ID solo dress. Then she just needs dance shoes and a cake decorated with shamrocks and flowers.

Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)

That is the cake I first spoke to the cake hotline about and they said 135.00 for a 10" cake and my b-day is not until Dec. I have since changed it to this and it is 145.

I spoke to Brian and I am able to order the Mickey Mouse head cake.. but I have to call to order it, officially I guess?

And there is no delivery charge to WL!

There are some posts that are saying that the Mickey Mouse head cake is a real disappointment as it is dried out. Do a search on this before you order it.

Emailed w/Brian...got my order pretty well in place...

I found tht we *do* have a great excuse for cake after all! The day before the boys and I are set to pull out of our house for our 3 week adventure (WDW is only 10 nights of that) will be my youngest's 13th birthday. On a normal day his birthday celebration wish would be me baking for him, dinner at the local hibachi grill, and a Disney movie at home with everyone piled into my bed. Unfortunately, we'll be oober busy packing up. He's content with an abbreviated version at home after I promised him a special surprise once we make it to WDW.

Our 1st dinner will be at Whispering Canyon. We love that place. So fun! The surprise will be his super-duper special birthday cake from Brian & the gang over at the Contemporary. I told Brian that the kiddo's all-time favorite character is Mickey from Steamboat Willie. Don't ask me why. I have no clue. I don't think he does either. He collects Steamboat Willie stuff, tho. So we're getting an 8" cake with a Steamboat Willie theme. Quoted price thus far is $65. Last email I sent was to let the gang know to have fun with it and if the cost came in more than the $65 that's not a problem.

I'm excited! :cool1:

Just called and got the email address for Brian. Now I have to finalize the kind of cake I want. Help me please as there are too many choices. It will be my son's first birthday and we are eating at Chef Mickey's. I want colorful and fun with a Mickey theme, unless there is something better. He's too young to have a favorite and if I let his sisters' pick it would be a pink princess masterpiece. Any ideas on flavor, theme, or colors would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone! The castmember emailed me back and explained everything and that we were misunderstnading eachother. I am going to get the Mickey Cake Topper style cake and it's going to be $135. I'm super excited and can't wait for February to get here!!!

I'm glad that you got it straightened out!!!

My husband and I are thinking about ordering a cake for our 3 kids on our 1st night in Disney World. It's their first trip to Disney and we want to make it more memorable for them. We are eating dinner at the Whispering Canyon the first night and are hoping they can make us a cake with classic Mickey Mouse colors.
We aren't going til March 11th, so I have plenty of time to order one, but was wondering if anyone has had a cake from WCC before?

Yes, we did in 2008. My mom ordered it from WL private dining - I think. It was $45 I think and was added to our bill. The picture is is post 2...here is the link

Good Luck!

As a former easy bake oven chef myself, I have to say LurkyLoo is right on. Those cakes look like they came right out from under the lightbulb. Although, I will admit, the icing looks a bit fancier than the stuff I mixed with water and spackled on my delicate desserts.
