Kelly has been fantastic to work with, I emailed her photos I found under this fabulous thread for a cake that I want made for my Dec. b-day. She called me today and had me talk to the chef since I am allergic to chocolate. This is the cake that I want for my b-day. It is a Christmas cake but since my b-day is in
Dec, I love it!!!

I'm getting a vanilla cake with strawberry filling :) Also, a whipped cream frosting vs. butter cream.

I thought at Garden Grill you could also get the Mickey head or one of the "personalized" cakes they do with the image on the frosting? I'd call the cake hotine and push the option for EPCOT and see what your options are.

I don't know about a Mickey head cake or about Garden Grill specifically, but you can get a personalized cake at Epcot. It is square, single layered cake w/ an edible image that lays on the cake. On my DS's the image fell over the sides of the cake. You could tell they took very little time with it. The cake itself was horrible. It was very dry. We all took 1 bite & were done. It was by far the worst birthday cake any of us had ever had.

HEY...thats my cake!!!!!!! So glad you liked it!!! Hope you get exactly what you want!!!

Is it possible to get a really amazing cake from Boardwalk Bakery that compares to the cakes Brian at Contemporary designs? We will be celebrating our youngest daughter's 12th birthday while at BWV and would love to surprise her with a Maleficent or EvilQueen cake. If not, does the Contemporary deliver to Whispering Canyon?

I've never seen them give the option of a Mickey head cake inside Epcot, and the "personalized" cakes are the same as what I call "EasyBake Oven" cakes— basic chocolate or vanilla with whipped cream frosting and some sprinkles—but they slap a screen print on top.

I've heard of them referred to as "Sara Lee" type cakes....but easybakeoven?:confused3really? have you ever seen an easybakeoven cake?

I have been emailing with Disney in regards to getting a custom cake made for DH's birthday when we go in February. I am being told that the cakes that I am looking at are WAY more expensive then what is being posted here. There is a Mickey Topper cake that someone posted that they paid around $135 and I am being told $135 with no hand molded piece. These prices posted on the boards are recent posts, not ones from years past.

Any thoughts???

are you speaking of the white chocolate mickey that is on top of the cake? if so, that is not hand molded. it is just white chocolate poured in to a mold. i'm wondering if they think you want them to actually "hand mold" a mickey with molding chocolate?

when i called for the cake with the white chocolate mickey on top, i think they said it was going to be 135.

maybe the person you are speaking to does not understand what you want. have you sent them a photo? that is what i did.

I did send them the photo. I just don't want a one dimensional sugar pastry that's painted. I orginally wanted a splash mountain cake that I saw here, but that's going to be $200.00 and I just can't justify that on a cake for a birthday. I'm just getting frustrated that they are not giving me much info, just quick short responses that isn't very helpful. I will have to email again and see if I can get more info.

Forgot to add that I am looking for the painted Mickey on top of the cake, I;m new here, so I can't post pics yet!

This is the cake we had at Chef Mickey's for my son's 7th birthday. He had asked for a Pluto cake and was pleased how it looked. Sponge was ok, but the buttercream was rather tasteless and very soft. We brought the no. 7 candle with us. The candles provided with the cake seemed to be sinking/melting into it. Cost was $47 + tax.

Not only have I seen an Easy Bake Oven cake, I have made them many many times in my youth and as a babysitter! :rotfl:

I use "Sara Lee cake" as shorthand for Disney's supermarket-style cakes with buttercream frosting (which were once rumored to be provided by Sara Lee) and "Easy Bake Oven cake" for Epcot's sponge cake with whipped cream frosting. These premade cakes are about half as tall as the cakes found everywhere else on property and not as professional in appearance... kinda like an Easy Bake Oven cake!

Behold....

Who are you emailing? As a previous posted said, sometimes they don't understand what you want and quote you a higher price for something too elaborate. And sometimes it seems like they just quote you a higher price to discourage you...

I contacted the cake hotline a month ago - just to get information. The next day the pastry chef from Yachtsman called me. I sent them some pictures from here that I wanted to incorporate into one cake. The Sous Pastry Chef called me 2 days ago and we got it set. It is a 10" with the diamond fondant pattern in red and blue with silver mickey heads imprinted on the red. They are going to do silver stars and mickey head balloons surrounding a painted Mickey. I also got the total 165.00. I have to call the cake hotline today to give credit card info to hold the cake and confirm the reservation number. I was shocked that they were so on top of things. This is for a dinner on January 2.

Sounds very similar to mine from my anniversary in September. They originally quoted me $275 for that cake!!!!!!!!!!! I got them to do it for $175, which was still alot, but I loved it. It was HUGE though, weighed about 4 pounds I think LOL.

I got my Mickey face cake last week and it was really cute . I picked it up at Artist Palete and it was made at The Boardwalk . It was cute to look at and not good to eat . My Granddaughter is only 2 and she loved it but she wouldnt even eat it .
DRY so dry it once it was cut you could see the dry in the texture LOL

Now being a baker myself I am pretty picky but this was not me being picky this was just dry . My DD said it was the worst cake she had ever tried . No one ate it my Grandddaughter just picked at the frosting . Would I do it again ? Maybe LOL because it severed its intended purpose it was a GIFT from Mickey Mouse left for Brynlee : ) and it made her very happy
