I have a question concerning the price of a Haunted Mansion cake for DS's 6th birthday. I contacted Yvette at the Yacht and Beach club about a Haunted Mansion cake for our upcoming Sept. trip. I sent pictures of "the one that started it all". I read that the person that purchased the original Haunted Mansion cake only paid $65 at the Contemporary. I understand that prices may vary from resort to resort; but this is the price she quoted me!:scared1::) What do you guys think....What are my other options? This will only be from me, Dh and DS (6 years old). Thanks so much for your help!:goodvibes April

E-mail from Yvette......

Your options:

1. Since there are 3 guests in your party, there are a few options for you in cake size:

Ø 6 inch cake that serves 4-6 people: the price for this would be $76.00

Ø 8 inch cake that serves 8 people: the price for this would be $87.00

Ø 10 inch cake that serves 16 people: the price for this would be $100.00 {Please note that the cake pictured is a 10inch cake}

Were getting the same cake done at the GF for 180. 10 inch yellow cake with strawberries and baverian creame filling. Pat was very helpful and if we don't make a dent in it I will be more then happy to share it as well as take some back to the resort...thank goodness it's being delivered on our 2nd night out of 7 :lmao:

Lurkyloo... Thanks so much for posting the cake pics:lovestruc! I love that mini cake... was that at BWB... do you know the price by any chance? We stayed at BCV in March and I remember seeing a cake on display at the entrance of Cape May Cafe... it was a birthday cake..Madhatter style. It looks like they do a great job there! I can't wait to see DS's Haunted Mansion cake! Judging by what others have been quoted there... I think I may have gotten a pretty good deal!:goodvibes Thanks again! April

Carrie~ Do you know the pricing for the 2 tier and 3 tier mad hatters? Do they change price if ordering through the cake hotline for a birthday since the price would not be per person like for weddings? Wanting to get a 3 tier for my daughters birthday but $980 is a bit steep.

Oh, and do you think a white chocolate castle topper would be able to sit atop it? Some of the photos I've seen the top looks quite flat. Thanks for any info/opinions/suggestions!

ohhhh lurkyloo I wish I could reach in and grab that mini in the last pic :lovestruc

Me too! :rotfl:

Prices for the minicakes range from $25-$35. That's one's fairly simply decorated, so it seems like it would be on the cheaper side.

A 2-tier Mad Hatter is $450 and a 3-tier is $980 on DFTW's price sheet but, as you say, you may be quoted a different price if you're not going through them. (In my experience, it's sometimes higher :scared1:). A lot of it has to do with the amount of decoration, too, so if you went for a simpler version of the Mad Hatter it could lower the price. Definitely talk to the pastry chef at the resort that will be making the cake (the Contemporary seems to be your best bet for getting a lower price these days). Here's a list of direct phone numbers for ordering cake at each resort/park so you can get to a chef quicker: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/by-location/

And I think you could definitely work with them to make the top layer in such a way that the castle topper would sit on it. :thumbsup2

Thank you. I'll report back closer to the party and submit my findings :-)

Wanted to thank everyone for their postings here. I'll post my experience after I get my post count up enough to add pictures :)

This thread was so helpful - thanks to all those that contributed. I wanted to share with you the cake and some things I learned during the process:

Price: $77
Date Received: 5/20/11
Location: Grand Floridian Garden Tea Room
Cake info: 8", white buttercream, white cake, vanilla custard, white chocolate Mickey & Minnie topper with gold accents (3D front/flat back, not available at Boardwalk Bakery), no fondant, piped Mickey heads in red and black, I asked for flowers in colored icing but got a sugar orchid that was more expensive but lovely. Fed 5 adults and 1 child and was DELICIOUS! It was so light that we each wanted a second piece. It melted in our mouths and it was perfect with the tea!

We didn't want to spend that much but I didn't know if it was bad etiquette to only order drinks with the cake. The chef I spoke to (Robert) recommended the Garden Tea at Grand Floridian. It was perfect. Tea was $6.95 per person but they each got an individual tea press that provided 3-4 refills. We were not expected to order more but so that was nice. It worked out wonderfully and I'd recommend the same for anyone that wants a special treat without being bloated from an all-you-care-to-eat buffet or paying $$$$. The cake took a while coming out, though I saw it being brought to the kitchen some 15 minutes earlier. The hostess did an amazing job and even brought out roses for my mom and her husband prior to the cake (she didn't even ruin the surprise) and wished them a 'happy anniversary'. Total $142.85, including tea, tax, and tip.

Side Note: Robert at GF was very helpful in just getting a good idea of what I really wanted and what was feasible. He also pointed out that sometimes people from the DISboards (he follows here too) make requests and say the prices were different than others, etc. Please keep in mind that the Disney Cake people are the authority and prices and such found here are estimates and may not apply in every situation. Also, Pat (the one that took care of putting in the actual order) was less friendly and a bit curt - just be direct with your order with no willy-nilly or indecisiveness at that point.

Those cakes are all so beautiful.

We have never ordered any special desserts/cakes and we've been nearly 40 times. However, our next trip is March 31-April 7 of 2012 and we are going to celebrate our DD #1's journey with leukemia. She's been through numerous complications, but is still fighting and here with us.

We aren't sure what to order yet, but her fave characters are Tinkerbell and she also loves Pirates. She also loves bright/poppy colors.

My fiance ordered me the white chocolate slipper for my college graduation. I got this when we had tea at the GF. It was $15. :)

of course I meant the cake with a mickey ( already made not custom made ) not the mickey head my mistake lol..
I want just a simple cake for the 4 of us for granddaughter 2nd birthday

Yes, no need to call ahead for a podium cake at Akershus. It's $21 + tax now. No guarantees that it will have the white chocolate disc with Mickey screen-printed on it, though—if having the character is important to you, best call ahead and order the cake (the price is the same).

Thinking about doing a cake for DD's bday. I see from the post on page 161 that we could have a cake made by the BoardWalk Bakery and delivered to our room at CBR. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a delivery fee? Would it need to be delivered when someone is in the room? Can we pick it up from Shutters without having a reservation?

Thanks in advance!

There is no delivery fee. If you arrange to have the cake delivered you shouldn't need to be in the room; usually they can leave it. Alternatively, you can pick it up at Shutters during business hours—you don't need a reservation.

Thank you! This may work out better for us that getting it at a restaurant! I may have a plan.....

White Chocolate Stitch Figure

Here are some shots of Disney's new white chocolate Stitch character, which costs $35 and tastes absolutely terrible (well, at least the one I had delivered to my room at the Grand Floridian did!). Still, it might make a cute cake topper...

Disneyland Cake

Here's a custom cake we had delivered to Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel yesterday. We didn't specify any decorations, just the inscription, so consider this a standard design. It was red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting and cost $33 plus tax. Our Annual Passholder dining discount applied. The cake was moist, but the filling was more like cheesecake than cream cheese frosting. The buttercream was preternaturally smooth and not very sweet—kind of like eating butter. Definitely not my taste but probably perfect for those who find most cakes too sweet.

Location: Steakhouse 55 @ Disneyland Hotel
Size: 6-inch
Flavors: Red velvet cake with cream cheese filling & buttercream frosting
Price: $33+tax
Who to Call: To place an order if you are staying at a Disney resort, call 1-714-300-7526 and select Option #2. To place an order if you are not staying at a Disney resort, call Disney Dining at 1-714-781-3463.

Can anyone please tell me the name of the chef I need to speak with at AKL for a custom cake? I called, and I spoke with someone (didn't catch her name) that didn't know what she was talking about at all. It was actually painfull to speak with her! I'm paying a lot of $$$ for this cake, and I don't want it to come out the exact opposite of what I want because I'm not dealing with the right person.

TIA!

So I would really like to order my boyfriend a happy anniversary cake to surprise him, either at one of our dinners our to our room.

My question is, can disney bakers (bakeries?) make this cake gluten free? My boyfriend has celiac disease, so he can't tolerate gluten. Can the cake be gluten free!? :confused3 If so, what gluten free flavors are available? Can these cakes still be decorated?

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer this!!
