Both cakes were chocolate and chocolate mousse filling and there wer both wonderful!

Here are the pictures of the the cake I had done for my husband's 47th birthday on Jan 2nd. We celebrated at Trattoria Al Forno - excellent by the way. I ordered the cake from the Boardwalk bakery and all went off without a hitch. The only issue was I couldn't pay for the cake ahead of time so I had to pay with the bill and used my TIW discount card, which meant I got 20% off but paid tip on the cake too. It actually didn't bother me much since our server was awesome!! The cake was an 8in, marble with butter cream. I took the inspiration from another Splash cake that I saw on this website but I didn't want a two tier cake. I was thrilled that they were able to do it as a single tier and for $80!!

I'll have to post pictures in my next post since I need 10 posts to post an image. This is my 10th post... Stay tuned...

Wow! I LOVE the Splash Mountain cake, it's amazing and looks so good too! :)

Our kiddos had this set up for a surprise for hubby and I for our 22nd anniversary.

I love this! I wish they had a graduation mickey. Maybe I could get this in hunter green & golden yellow for the school colors! Maybe no fondant. Either way, great cake!

Can they do different fillings on different layers? I think I've seen that before. If so maybe we'd just go with 2 layers of chocolate buttercream and one of vanilla. How is the chocolate buttercream usually?

I like it! :thumbsup2

So after calling yesterday morning and being told that they were still waiting on approval, I got serious, and the girl I spoke with said they would look into it personally, as it had now been two weeks since I put in the request.
I was to get a call back. I even gave my room number.
Nothing.

I called again today at about 1:00pm and spoke to Yamira. I asked about the status of the order, and she again said they were still waiting for approval and that it can take up to 30days :headache:
I don't usually get upset, but I had to say something now.
I explained about yesterday how someone was going to look into it and call me, and how Johanna wasn't answering my emails.
Yamira placed me on hold again and when she came back said that both the image and the phrase "we wants the red head" were approved.
Now, it has been sent to the bakery and maybe now I can actually get a quote! I have no idea how much they want to charge me for this cake, and we are 3 days out.

This has not been as easy as I thought it would be.
I hope it turns out good, and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

3rd and LAST resort change for this trip! Just switched to Coronado (long story:lmao:) A little confused on how to get a cake there. The 1st page shows different options? Anyone do a cake at CSR?

Got a call back from V&A's they quoted $90 to recreate the top of my wedding cake. Can't wait to see it!!

Hello, who did you contact about ordering at V&A? I will be eating there my birthday weekend which is Valentine's Day. I wonder what options they have as far as making a birthday dessert/cake.

If anyone has info please let me know. Thank you so much.

We are doing the same thing for my son. I have not found much while searching for examples of a graduation cake. If you find something, let me know. TIA!

Hooray! I'm so glad you finally got the approval! I bet it will turn out beautifully! :goodvibes

You call the number in Post #2 of this thread. The options at Coronado are different than elsewhere at WDW because a different company manages their food service.

Fantastic! Can't wait to see it!

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this different take on the Haunted Mansion cake, made by the Grand Californian at Disneyland. They charged $36 for a 6-inch cake $35, but with tax and service charge it came out to $50.

We just celebrated my parent's 45th anniversary at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge with a custom cake order. The whole experience was amazing and better than I'd hoped.

We had ordered a pirate cake a couple years ago for my son's 5th birthday at the California Grill - they did a great job, so my expectations were pretty high.

We had a lunch reservation at the WCC on Dec 28 - busiest time of the year, I know, what were we doing at WDW then??? And it was for the 16 of us - 8 adults, 8 kids (2-10) - which includes my family, my parents and my 2 sister's families.

I searched the cake galleries for several days before settling on a basic design that I liked and then contacted the private dining number for WL. They said I should contact Chef Donald at the Contemporary/Custom Cake line directly and then the WL would be brought into the loop once the order was placed.

I contacted the cake hotline about a week before our arrival on the 28th - everyone I spoke to was great, very professional. As with the pirate cake, I sent an email with the image of the basic design I liked with a bulleted list of changes we wanted to make. The Cake Hotline folks called back the next day with a price breakdown. The original quote included a hand painted, white chocolate Mickey and Minnie on the top - that alone was $90, so we cut that but kept the rest pretty much as we'd designed it. And once that was done, we confirmed and placed the order.

Because I didn't want to leave anything to chance, on the 27th, I called both the cake line and the WL private dining and everyone confirmed that the cake was in process and expected to be delivered at the WCC for our lunch.

Cake details:
10" round
Marble with dark chocolate filling
$150 - included all of the handmade work and custom requests

At the end of our lunch, our waitress (Sunshine - who was awesome and fun) started calling out to the entire restaurant to pay attention to her, asked them to raise their hand if they were 45 yrs old or less - most people did - and then had my parent's stand up, and said, "well, these people have been married longer than you've been alive!" Then she made everyone sing "You are my sunshine" while she made my parents do a little dance. My dad loved it, I think my mom was mortified by the attention but had fun.

Then she brought out the cake and everyone was stunned by how great it was - both in appearance and taste.

I can't say enough good things about how great the whole lunch was. This was the 2nd custom cake that we've done with the Contemporary cake chefs, and both have been beautiful, a bit pricey, but so amazingly perfect, I feel it was a splurge well spent for a special occasion.

I'm not sure how to post a photo, but I'll post a picture when I figure it out.

I have been following this thread for a few years now, but never attempted to order a cake before. I want to do a mini cake for my husbands birthday while we are in Disney at the beginning of March. We have reservations at tons of restaurants, so I can basically pick where I want to order it from.
My question is, which cake bakery makes the best mini cakes? Thank you!!!

We LOVED our mini cake from the Contemporary Bakery. It was made my Chef Brian and was a vanilla cake with peanut butter mousse filling and chocolate buttercream. Oh my goodness was it good! :)

Thank you for sharing your experience! To post a photo, you will need to upload it to a service like Photobucket or WDWInfo's community photo forum. Then you can copy and paste the code they give you between these two tags in any post on the Disnboards.

Or you can just PM me for my email address and I'll post it for you! :goodvibes

All the Disney pastry teams use the same recipes, so the taste will be the same no matter where you go. I try to use the Contemporary as often as I can because they are more open to customizing cakes, easier to work with, and somehow manage to charge less than the other Disney pastry teams.

Would a 6" cake be enough for a party of 8 -- two of whom are 4 and 7, and four who aren't big cake eaters? We're going to have it delivered to BOG, followed by Wishes and the parade, so I really don't want to carry around leftovers. It'll be a custom cake, so I can do either two or three layers. Thanks!

Here is our Xmas themed cake. We ended up getting two because the first one had the wrong cake and filling. The first one is red velvet and cream cheese and the second is yellow with peanut butter cup.
