I have tried all week to get through to the lady at the GF to order a cake for my DD for afternoon tea at the GF. I have decided to ditch the idea as she has not got back to me and I wanted Chef Brian anyway!!! My question is....what locations can I choose to have it delivered to if Chef Brian does it..is Akershaus WCC Teppen Edo or Ohanas an option ? TIA

I had the exact same experience so I changed to The Wave at CR to get Chef Brian. I was eating at Ohana originally- Poly cakes were supplied by GF. CR & WL are Chef Brian.

Would a 6" cake be enough for a party of 8 -- two of whom are 4 and 7, and four who aren't big cake eaters? We're going to have it delivered to BOG, followed by Wishes and the parade, so I really don't want to carry around leftovers. It'll be a custom cake, so I can do either two or three layers. Thanks!

Yep! :thumbsup2

Here is our Xmas themed cake. We ended up getting two because the first one had the wrong cake and filling. The first one is red velvet and cream cheese and the second is yellow with peanut butter cup.

Thanks for sharing! Would you be able to share where you got the cake(s) and how much it was supposed to cost? (I'm assuming they gave you the second for free after the screw-up!)

Here's DISer INDEV's cake pic, with info...

We just celebrated my parent's 45th anniversary at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge with a custom cake order. The whole experience was amazing and better than I'd hoped.

We had ordered a pirate cake a couple years ago for my son's 5th birthday at the California Grill - they did a great job, so my expectations were pretty high.

We had a lunch reservation at the WCC on Dec 28 - busiest time of the year, I know, what were we doing at WDW then??? And it was for the 16 of us - 8 adults, 8 kids (2-10) - which includes my family, my parents and my 2 sister's families.

I searched the cake galleries for several days before settling on a basic design that I liked and then contacted the private dining number for WL. They said I should contact Chef Donald at the Contemporary/Custom Cake line directly and then the WL would be brought into the loop once the order was placed.

I contacted the cake hotline about a week before our arrival on the 28th - everyone I spoke to was great, very professional. As with the pirate cake, I sent an email with the image of the basic design I liked with a bulleted list of changes we wanted to make. The Cake Hotline folks called back the next day with a price breakdown. The original quote included a hand painted, white chocolate Mickey and Minnie on the top - that alone was $90, so we cut that but kept the rest pretty much as we'd designed it. And once that was done, we confirmed and placed the order.

Because I didn't want to leave anything to chance, on the 27th, I called both the cake line and the WL private dining and everyone confirmed that the cake was in process and expected to be delivered at the WCC for our lunch.

Cake details:
10" round
Marble with dark chocolate filling
$150 - included all of the handmade work and custom requests

At the end of our lunch, our waitress (Sunshine - who was awesome and fun) started calling out to the entire restaurant to pay attention to her, asked them to raise their hand if they were 45 yrs old or less - most people did - and then had my parent's stand up, and said, "well, these people have been married longer than you've been alive!" Then she made everyone sing "You are my sunshine" while she made my parents do a little dance. My dad loved it, I think my mom was mortified by the attention but had fun.

Then she brought out the cake and everyone was stunned by how great it was - both in appearance and taste.

I can't say enough good things about how great the whole lunch was. This was the 2nd custom cake that we've done with the Contemporary cake chefs, and both have been beautiful, a bit pricey, but so amazingly perfect, I feel it was a splurge well spent for a special occasion.

I will be in Disney with my parents this September to celebrate my 24th birthday. We will also be celebrating their birthdays too as they each have late August birthdays. We've debated in where and when to order a cake because we don't want to carry it around a park. But I think I finally have a decent idea now!

On the day we visit Downtown Disney, we plan to go to the Boardwalk and do some things there. We stayed there Christmas 2013 and absolutely love BWV but can't afford it this year so we are staying at CBR. I was thinking that the night we visit BW, we could have our birthday dinner at Flying Fish. We've never eaten at a signature because we can't justify the cost but I have a Disney Visa now so we will get a small discount...plus it's a celebration dinner so we should splurge ;) We could have the cake delivered to Flying Fish. That would work better than having the cake on a park day because we would be going back to CBR after dinner and wouldn't really have to carry a cake around.

How does that idea sound? I know we order through BW Bakery. How are there cakes? We really just want a 6" with maybe a screen print (a photo of us from our Christmas trip) or perhaps just cute Disney decorations if a screen print is too much extra.

Thanks for any input!

Brill Thanks for the info..I finally got a call back from Pat but not much to offer to be honest..I think I would prefer Brian

We had the cake delivered to Chef Mickey's. It was $53 plus tax. The second one was free and was delivered the next day. It was a 6 inch cake.

We got the cake delivered at dinner tonight at the Yachtsman and all I have to say is
O M G

It was amazing!!!!!!!

I will post pictures when I get my computer up and running and can resize the pictures.

This cake turned out even better than I could imagine and everything I wanted included was...and more :)

So happy with the final product.

Questions: I'm doing breakfast at CRT, dinner at The Wave, and then the dessert party on my actual birthday. Should I worry about a cake at all? I was thinking a mini-cake anyway, but would it be too much on top of everything? Or, if I really want something special, should I just get the slipper thing at CRT (cause I really am a princess on the inside.....and sometimes Ursula). Thanks in advance!

Sounds good to me! All Disney cakes taste the same, so you don't have to worry about that part. They should have no problem with your request.

Yes, it will be too much cake, but there is NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH CAKE! :rotfl:

For me, a fresh slice of Disney cake is a million times better than any of the fussy, boring desserts they come up with at their dessert parties. But if you don't care either way, the slipper would be fun and a lot cheaper.

Thanks so much to lurkyloo and everyone else for all the great advice on this thread! We loved our Goofy-themed cake - ordered from the Contemporary and served at Chef Mickey's. We worked with Brian and Donald via e-mail and then ordered via phone.

The details:
6" vanilla cake with vanilla frosting
blue fondant with mickey head balloons
hand-painted chocolate Goofy on top

The cost:
We paid $74, minus TIW discount but + tip. It would have been $68 if we went with buttercream frosting instead of fondant.

The serving size:
I'm so glad we went with the 6" cake - it easily served our party of seven and we had a couple pieces left over.

The taste:
The cake was fine - we're not huge cake fans in the first place. But the fondant was outstanding - my favorite part! And the white chocolate goofy on top was yummy and so big that it lasted a very long time.

Additional info and value:
I'm also really glad we went with fondant. It looked great and the photos don't do it justice. When we checked in for our Chef Mickey's ADR, the CM seating us was very excited - she said she picked up the cake and remembered it. In fact, she told us she took a photo of it and sent it to her parents. Loved the enthusiasm!

Because we're not huge cake fans, I didn't expect to feel like this was a good value. But the final product was so well done, and it brought so much joy to our birthday boy that it was completely worth the price. I'm already thinking about what we can celebrate next that requires a cake. Might go with a mini cake next time, but will definitely plan to order a custom cake again!

What an adorable cake!

Can I ask how many people it served? The 6" cakes at my grocery store look so small (I was eyeballing them for comparison yesterday), but the 6" cakes I see on the cake threads here look bigger than I was expecting. Still trying to decide between a 6" and an 8". Thanks!

Thank you! At least for us, the 6" was more than enough for our party of seven. The pieces seemed big to us, and we had at least two full pieces left over. I'm so glad we went with the 6" - it was absolutely perfect for our party size and appetites! But again, I've seen the guidelines indicating that the 6" cake serves 5 - just depends on how big you would like your piece of cake to be!

Do you know how many layers of cake there were? That seems like an awesome price! We had a 6inch a couple years ago but it was 4 layers so it lasted a long time. Then we got another 6inch cake and I was expecting the same and it was only 2 layers so much smaller overall.

I'm pretty sure it was two layers. I don't think my husband ate any frosting or fondant, and I think he just pulled out two layers of cake for consumption! Should have taken a photo of the inside of the cake, but didn't think about it until I came back to this thread!

Here is our cake fromV&A. It was white cake with hazlenut. It was better than the cake we had at our wedding!
Sorry tried to upload the pics from my photobucket app. It didn't work so I'll do it from a computer later!

Lurkyloo, do you have pics saved of most of the cakes? I'm in contact with Donald at the Contemporary trying to determine if a more elaborate pirate cake can be made with allergy safe ingredients for my son. He asked for pics and I have seen several here over the years.

Just wondering if you had them saved or if there is a place where just the cake photos can be found. If not, I will scroll through until I find them again. Just looking for some of the fondant pirate cakes that have been done with treasure chests, skulls, etc.

Thanks!

ETA: I did end up finding a few from cake gallergy photos up through July 2010. If there are any newer ones somewhere you are aware though I'd love to see them too. Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this it really helps me as I was wanting to order almost exactly the same but with Pluto, same restaurant, size, flavours and colours though. This is brilliant to help me know what it might be like. Do you have to specify how you want the cake decorated or just say blue fondant and pluto on top?

Thank you. I'm so excited to see my DD's face when this comes out pluto:
