OK, @quandrea here's your cake inspiration....

You mentioned that they are now quoting you $65 for an 8-inch with a screen print but no scrolls. I'll bet the price would go down if you nixed the fondant-ball border at the bottom. Wait... maybe it's piped buttercream? But if they think it's fondant balls, that could be driving up the price too.

So when I speak to her next, I should emphasize that those are piped butter cream dots, not fondant? I guess the endless emails are just part of the process? I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks

Does anyone know if they have something like this (ordering special cakes) at Disneyland? I will ask on the DLR forum, but thought I'd ask here too just in case. We're looking at maybe being in DLR for my birthday this year :) TIA!

Lurkyloo. Just wondering how I can get quoted $89 for a cake no more complicated than yours. Just a simple layer cake with a screen image on top. Only addition is some simple scroll work on the sides. I have been back and forth with the woman at Magic kingdom cakes and I feel I'm getting nowhere. Trip is in two weeks. Want to nail down this order. Help!!!!

They've always said they don't do screen prints on 6-inch cakes. So I'd guess either you're being charged for an 8-inch cake or they've figured out a way to do it on a 6-inch that is very expensive! Can you email me your photos (PM me for the address) so I can post them and see how complicated that scroll work might be? Maybe there's something about it that makes it difficult to do.

Just wanted to add our recent experience with the Contemporary, in case it's helpful. Initially, we received an $89 quote for a 6" Buzz and Woody cake. No description or details regarding what that would include, so I wonder if that's a starting price point.

Then I switched to a Goofy theme and sent three inspiration photos. They offered a 6" cake with a goofy screen print (like the one pictured on these boards, but only 6") for $38; a 6" cake with a goofy 2D image on top for $53; or a 6" cake with a handpainted white chocolate Goofy for $68. When I asked for the white chocolate Goofy topper with fondant, the quote increased to $74. I just thought it was interesting that the first, undetailed quote was for $89 and then the price came down when I sent photos and we started discussing specifics. I was wondering what would have brought that initial cake quote all the way up to $89. In the end, however, I really liked our cake and appreciated the fact that the fondant version only cost $6 more than the regular frosting.

I started ordering another cake for our upcoming trip, but decided to take a cake-ordering break. As much as we really loved our last cake, it does take a bit of back-and-forth and then the end result can vary.

Thanks for this. We are at $78 now. They say that they can't put a screen image on a six inch cake. Only eight and up. I'd prefer a six inch. Hopefully we will get there. I'll keep you posted.

Yes. They don't have nearly as many options as at WDW, but they do make custom cakes. (Also, dunno if this is a big deal, but DLR uses the blander, more butter-like chantilly buttercream frosting instead of the sugary, classic buttercream used at WDW). All the order info and flavors are in Post #1 of this thread.

I just got back from a wonderful 8 days in WDW. When we arrived at the GFC for my DD's birthday dinner I was trying to figure out how I could privately check that the cake had arrived. Turns out that was not needed....as we sat down our waiter greeted us by wishing my DD a happy 16th birthday. I thought that was really nice and it let me know that they had the cake. Anyway, after we finished dinner the cake was brought to the table quietly and placed in front of her. She thought it was really cute but thought that it was from the restaurant. I had to tell her that I ordered it for her.

The cake itself was nice but much smaller than I expected. I did order a 2 tier mini cake. All I asked was that they make it special for her. The cake had sugar flowers on the top tier and they did a design on the bottom that went from the cake onto the plate. Taste wise, the cake was very fresh and excellent but the icing was way to sweet. It was about the size of an average cupcake and for $35 it was way over priced...that was disappointing.

BTW, I had a larger cupcake from the POP food court for only $5.

I am going to be at Saratoga Springs for 2 days in April before going on the Disney Magic Cruise is it possible to get a custom birthday cake delivered to the ship?

Do you actually communicate with Brian? I'm going through and intermediary.

Hi! Yes, he emailed me this morning a couple of times. I sent the original email to the contemporary email address I got from here. Once he said what we're going to do he gave me a number to call and place the order. Very helpful.

Does anyone have any photos for the Coronado Springs cakes? Their offering/ordering process seems to be a bit different than the other moderates.
Good luck! I have searched thread after thread and several web pages, nothing! I know the flavors and the prices, but no idea what the cake would look like!

Okay cake experts, I need your help!

I'd like to order a cake (to be picked up or delivered at POR) that is Star Wars themed for DH.
- We enjoy cake but don't want to go into a full dessert coma
- No fondant, only buttercream
- No chocolate characters on top
- Purpose of cake is to surprise DH with announcement that we will be going to the Galactic Breakfast ADR (which he thinks there's no way of getting) ^_^

I REALLY like the concept of this cake:
Here's another mini cake from BoardWalk Bakery posted by a Disney bride. The cost was $25 and this is what the pastry chef came up with when she asked for a Snow White dress theme (she brought her own bow and apples to add to the cake):

I like the price and LOVE how simple it is, yet embodies Snow White (a character/theme) so well!

Questions:
- What size cake do you think I should order?
- Any concept designs or should I leave it up to the baker?
- Will they email concepts designs if I leave it up to them?
- I'd like this delivered May 2nd (can I request a time?), when should I order?

Thank you!!
Any other input would be awesome :)

This is how it worked for me on the last two cakes I ordered. It was painless. The cakes I got were spectacular and at a reasonable price. Yesterday, after fourteen emails back and forth I still don't have a cake order. Now I'm hitting road blocks on the allergy issue. My final email last night was an attempt at rebooting the process. I gave a budget, a photo of my inspiration cake, flavor and allergy requests. I also left a message at Epcot. I may just try over there. That or not get a cake at all.

I'm sorry. That all sounds painful!! You must be very frustrated. I give you credit for your perseverance. I hope you have more luck now and get the cake you're looking for. I'm ordering a very simple 6" red velvet with cream cheese frosting and a 2d graduation Mickey. Hopefully it all works out for both of us!

May I ask what they are charging you? My prices have been through the roof compared to last time and the cake I want is much simper than last time--no fondant, buttercream only, no ornate decoration. Haven't heard back from them yet today. I'm sure they are sick of dealing with me.

I have a cake order! Six inch with a screen print on the cake of Cinderella and her godmother. Scroll work on the sides. Nut free vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream. The cake will read, "Dreams do come true." Just a note to those with allergies--the print images are nut free.

Price $48. $2 under budget! Whew!

Contemplating getting my bf a cake to be delivered after dinner on either our first or last night (either at BOG or CRT). He's difficult when it comes to cakes, his favorite is ice cream cake - does Beaches and Cream do ice cream cakes?

His other favorite options include: Angel food cake, coffee flavor, and peanut butter. And I thought I was a picky eater!

Frosting wise, he likes The Grey Stuff (I've made grey stuff cupcakes and an Oreo pie of it).

I'd also want to do something The Great Mouse Detective inspired as that's his favorite Disney movie.

Has anyone had any of these things? (Ice cream cake, angel food, coffee flavor, grey stuff frosting)? I'm trying to figure out what would be a reasonable request for the pastry team.

I've not seen any of those options before. If you look through page one of this thread you can see what options they offer for cakes.

The only one of those Ive seen is peanut butter fillings. HTH

- What size cake do you think I should order?

How many people? If it's just the two of you, a mini cake will be plenty.

- Any concept designs or should I leave it up to the baker?
Well if you like that cake but have another character in mind, you could send them the pic and one of the character.

- Will they email concepts designs if I leave it up to them?

No.

- I'd like this delivered May 2nd (can I request a time?), when should I order?

If it's delivered to your room, you tell them when you'd like to have it. If it goes to a restaurant, you give them your reservation number.

You could see if they could do a mini cake inspired by 2 tiers of this Star Wars Cake:

Hooray! Can't wait to see it!

Disney has started offering a version of the grey stuff for wedding cake filling, so maybe you could get that.... if the Contemporary (which makes the cakes for the two places you mentioned) will do it. It's not frosting, though—more of a mousse. Nobody does ice cream cakes, but we just order ice cream to go with our cake.
