Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

Just wanted to post that, this morning, I had an extremely pleasant experience ordering a cake from the Contemporary to be delivered to the Whispering Canyon Cafe for my sons' 13th birthday dinner in May.

I had been corresponding with Chef Brian via email about the cake, and this is what we had settled on:

6 inch chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream for $119 plus gratuity, tax, etc.

-Haunted Mansion wallpaper motif
-Haunted Mansion "13" clock face on top
-lots of creepy skulls, coffins, bats, skeletons, tombstones, etc around the base of the cake
-"Happy Haunted 13th Birthday Master Paul" inscription

I called the number Chef Brian gave me via email (407-824-2955), which I think is different that what is listed on the first page of this thread, and an extremely pleasant, helpful, and professional woman answered and we had it all taken care of in less than five minutes. I was not asked for a credit card at all. I was told they would just bill the table that night. Easy and simple.

Can't wait to see...and eat....the cake in May. I'll post some pics after!

Nope! That's the same number. :thumbsup2

I have a cake ordered for the California Grill later this week. Do I need to call and confirm? How far in advance should I call?

What's the peanut butter flavor that everyone loves here? I'm thinking it's not the mousse, but a combination of two other things?
I've searched, but my eyes are crossing!

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this: I got permission to post these pics from a recent Walt Disney World wedding where the bride chose to have the Grand Floridian pastry team make multiple 8-inch cakes, each themed to a different Disney princess, instead of a traditional wedding cake. See if you can guess them! :teeth:

I have a grown son & basically only know the classic princesses. That said, which princess does the third cake represent? I can't figure it out. :confused3

I believe it is the peanut butter frosting. Lurkyloo says she likes that with chocolate ganache. Sounds delicious to me.

I thought it was Sleeping Beauty aka Aurora aka Briar Rose. The splashes of pink and blue on the sides represent when the fairy godmothers kept changing the color of her ball gown.

I would! I usually call Private Dining a day or two ahead of time to reconfirm everything, and so far I've never had them forget my cake.

Yes! As @mexi said, I think that their peanut butter mousse is too cheesecake-y, but I love their peanut butter buttercream frosting layered with their chocolate ganache. Some places may tell you that you can't have ganache as a filling in a smaller cake, but Chef Brian at the Contemporary can totally hook you up!

I think it might be Sleeping Beauty cuz of the thorny branches and the dragon tail. Plus the spinning wheel on the lower left side, and the pink and blue splotches around the sides.

Hi Carrie :wave2:

This was the combo I was going to order from Y&BC Fine Dining for our Fall visit (6" chocolate cake). Just so I understand, you would request the pb buttercream for the frosting between the layers only or do they frost the entire cake too and then also cover it with ganache?

Wow - just made myself really hungry...

Hi!

I usually have the cake covered in chocolate buttercream or vanilla buttercream under fondant, but pb frosting with ganache would be awesome on the outside too. Some places get confused when you ask for ganache as a filling and say the texture is too fudgey (but of course we know there is no such thing!). Also, be sure they understand you want peanut butter buttercream FROSTING (not "filling") if it's important to you, because that's not a typical request.

Thanks. That makes sense. For some reason, I don't remember much about Sleeping Beauty. It could be because I haven't seen it, since I was young. That's been a few years. :p

So back from our wedding we had two celebration orders (in addition to the wedding cake we demolished between the 5 of us ....HAHA....it was AMAZING GOOD!)

So first up...the day after the wedding my parents treated us to a meal at the California Grill and we got a Cinderella Slipper dessert. It was lovely and exactly as ordered. Ordered through the Contemporary.

Next up was and order for my husband's birthday which was a few days after the wedding. Now this time...they didn't put any writing on the plate but I didn't say anything as we got a bonus strawberry and we had an AMAZING dinner at Artists point so I couldn't really complain. I ordered a monorail with strawberries.

Finally this was our wedding cake. Simple yes put perfect. The AMAZING flavours were Lemon cake with Passionfruit mousse for the Bottom tier. Almond cake with Almond crunch mousse in the top tier. I was so so happy with both combinations but especially the bottom tier.
And for the record... DISNEY Fondant is pretty awesome. I ate the whole thing happily on the first tasting and loved it. The buttercream is lovely too but I assure you whatever recipe Disney use it isn't your average fondant...

Opinion time - I've been emailing back and forth to work on a cake design in my budget, and I was offered the strawberry mousse filling on a mini cake. Is the mousse worth the extra charge. Flavor is key here to me. Wondering if it's worth it or if I should just go with straight up buttercream and call it a day?

I have LONG enjoyed reading this thread and seeing all the fantastic cake pictures! Now it's my turn...

Going to be arriving at BWV on DD's bday, party of 4 adults, 2 kids. Our planned ADRs:
  • Tea at GF (on her actual b-day, Sunday - spending rest of day at BWV)
  • Lunch at The Wave (Tuesday - middle of MK touring day)
  • Dinner at BOG (Wednesday - middle of MK touring day)
  • Breakfast or Brunch at 1900 Park Fare (Saturday, departure day - spending rest of day at BWV pool)
Thinking 6" fancy cake, Frozen theme but maybe without the characters. Will Boardwalk Bakery deliver a fancy cake to our room, or do we pick up?
It's a surprise - should we have the cake made at Contemporary or GF and brought at the end of the meal or have it at the Resort? I'm not worried about leftovers.

You can order a cake for delivery to your BWI room through Private Dining. The Contemporary is easiest to work with and gives the most options, so I'd probably have the cake made for that meal. Although it IS pretty exciting to get cake on your actual birthday...
