Thank you so much! They all seem like great options, but based on this I'm leaning towards having it served as a surprise at The Wave. We'll probably get some cupcakes at Boardwalk Bakery on her actual birthday.

Just to make sure I have this all right....because I don't know anything about cakes....like the differences between fondant, ganache, frosting vs filling, etc. Lol.

If I want to go for that yummy sounding chocolate and peanut buttter combo (because I LOVE peanut butter), is this what I should ask for?

chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and peanut butter frosting (NOT filling) between the layers and peanut butter frosting under the fondant

I just want to make sure I have the wording right so I don't confuse the poor cake people, and so we get the right thing. We have the design all worked out, not just need to settle on the flavors. Yum!

So back from our wedding we had two celebration orders (in addition to the wedding cake we demolished between the 5 of us ....HAHA....it was AMAZING GOOD!)

So first up...the day after the wedding my parents treated us to a meal at the California Grill and we got a Cinderella Slipper dessert. It was lovely and exactly as ordered. Ordered through the Contemporary.

Next up was and order for my husband's birthday which was a few days after the wedding. Now this time...they didn't put any writing on the plate but I didn't say anything as we got a bonus strawberry and we had an AMAZING dinner at Artists point so I couldn't really complain. I ordered a monorail with strawberries.

Finally this was our wedding cake. Simple yes put perfect. The AMAZING flavours were Lemon cake with Passionfruit mousse for the Bottom tier. Almond cake with Almond crunch mousse in the top tier. I was so so happy with both combinations but especially the bottom tier.
And for the record... DISNEY Fondant is pretty awesome. I ate the whole thing happily on the first tasting and loved it. The buttercream is lovely too but I assure you whatever recipe Disney use it isn't your average fondant...

Oh my goodness. Your wedding cake was SIMPLY GORGEOUS! I absolutely love that.

You got it! :thumbsup2

For future reference, fondant is the edible Play-doh-like covering that they adhere to the buttercream frosting on the outside of the cake in order to execute fancy designs. Ganache is usually like a rich chocolate glaze; Disney's has a fudgey consistency. "Filling" at Disney means a mousse-like substance, whereas "frosting" is the sugary buttercream you're used to getting on classic birthday cakes (homemade, supermarket). You can also ask for whipped cream frosting instead, which is lighter and more buttery, less sugary.

We are arriving in October how far in advance do I have to order a cake? would I be able to do it today if I wanted to?

Sure! It just gives them an awful long time to lose your order, so I recommend calling back a week or two beforehand to reconfirm it, and then a day or two before to confirm again!

So I ordered a cake to be delivered to Ohana from the Grand Floridian bakery. Do I just call the same number to reconfirm a week before? BTW they did already charge me for the cake. Actually they charged me twice and reversed one of them. And I ordered a Scrump mini cake. The lady said she didn't know if that was one of the legally approved designs (I wanted just his face not a fondant print out), but if it wasn't, they would call and let me know. Does that sound right? Thanks for the great thread. I'll be sure to post after our trip.

Yes, call the same number you called before to confirm. And, yes, that sounds like something GF Private Dining would say.

I went and ordered a generic Star Wars cake for our reservation at Cinderella's Royal Table. I asked them to write "May the 40th Be With You" around the serving platter. I'm hoping I'm happy with the way it looks. I posted previously I wasn't thrilled before how they didn't do as I asked for my daughter's first birthday cake. I never get to surprise my husband so I want this to go well. I bought some light saber decorations to put on it but I have no idea if I can sneak to a cast member to show me the cake so I can place them on there. Here's a picture of the inspiration photo I sent. image.jpeg

I had a cake for my sister's anniversary delivered at Flying Fish. They allowed me to give them the topper I'd bought and placed it on the cake for me but I've heard other people have been turned down. They should be able to bring the cake to you at say the podium so you can place them yourself then deliver it to the table if they won't place them for you.

The email I received from magic kingdom said the cast members were not allowed to put the decorations on for me. So I'll definitely try to get them to let me see the cake so I can do it. And if it doesn't work out then oh well.

Hi everyone...... I absolutely love this thread and have purchased many cakes from Disney in the past and have been thrilled with them. I've found the Beach Club has made the best so far. :) I have a question; my son and I will be celebrating his 11th birthday this year at Aulani and I'm wanting to purchase a cake for him. Could someone please point me in the right direction for ordering, cake options, pictures etc that are made at Aulani? Thanks so much for your time! April

I just ordered an 8" chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse filling with a Star Wars theme. Pat at GF said they could do a picture of Darth Bader on top, molds of spaceships and planets with maybe some wires to hang the planets on. Has anyone ever ordered a Star Wars cake from there? How did it look? I'd love to see any pictures!!!

We ordered our Aulani vow renewal cake through our Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings planner, but you can just call the resort's Dining Department at 808-674-6330 to place your order.

Here are the standard cakes and a little bit of pricing info on custom cakes: https://resorts.disney.go.com/aulani-hawaii-resort/rooms-offers/in-room-options/gifts-surprises/

Here's our vow renewal cake. The design was based on our wedding china pattern. YMMV, but what we got tasted like dish sponges layered with butter. It was possibly the worst-tasting cake I’ve ever had, and certainly the worst Disney cake I’ve ever had. The cake was dry, dry, DRY, with nary a hint of the coconut flavor I'd requested. The frosting was like straight unsalted butter—no sweetness, no coconuttiness, no texture. I later learned that Aulani uses Chantilly buttercream instead of the sugary traditional buttercream used out at Walt Disney World. You’re not going to believe this, but the best-tasting part was the fondant—at least it was sweet!

trying to plan our wedding cake/dessert options for our wedding (reception at Ariel's at beach club), looking into alternatives to the normal 3 tier wedding cake because my fiance isnt a huge fan of cake. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the cost effectiveness of assorted desserts for guests verse a wedding cake (65 guests). If its less expensive than a large wedding cake, I was thinking we could do a mini cake (so we can still have cake cutting ceremony) and then assorted desserts for everyone else.

This is quite common at Disney weddings. Cupcakes range from about $5-$10 apiece, depending on how elaborate you want to go. A 6-inch cake will run you $80-$150, also depending on design. Other desserts vary in price—your planner would have to get you a quote from the pastry chef.

You can see Disney Fairy Tale Weddings' standard cake designs and the corresponding pricing sheet here: http://disneytravelbabble.com/disney-weddings/cake-styles-and-pricing/

Help, I don't know what I did wrong.

I've been wanting to order an either 8 or 10" cake for my daughters Sweet 16.

I got a call back from Pat at GF and the quote she gave me was just wowzwer way more than I expected.

I emailed her the picture shown. I asked for a scaled back version of just the top layer. I asked for a handful mixture of a few of the following ideas, starfish, clam-shell, sea-weed looking pieces, small piece of coral.

She quoted $220 for just the top layer only of the cake, not including any topper at all. I don't even know what all she offered as a topper, because my ears were ringing from the price. She said something to the effect of an Ariel cut out would be $25, but the day before on the phone she said a solid Ariel chocolate figurine would be $30 or $150 painted.

That design is pretty elaborate. You could ask if the price would go down if the pastry chef did it in all buttercream instead of fondant, or just tell her you're trying to hit $X budget and ask what the chef can do for that.

Does anyone know how you move a dining reservation with a cake order attached. show I contact dining or the cake order line or both.

I have the Wave booked with a special order cake for my graduating son. He has just announced he doesn't like the menu so I'm considering changing to Artists Point.
