Wow, I can't believe people are getting bent out of shape about a misspelling of a fictional character's name of all things! It is extremely nice of Christmas Elf to do the recaps. She takes her own time to do it and is not obligated to do so. It wouldn't surprise me if she decides it's not worth it when others are picking apart her posts. Personally, I have been very grateful for her recaps more than once after missing an episode.

Christmas Elf~ I for one completely appreciate the time you put into doing the recaps and for some reason my reading comprehension actually works well enough to know what you meant when you typed Charmain (or however you spelled it, lol!)

Oh, and she also did in fact mention the 2 men (not that that was a huge storyline to begin with...at least not yet). She even went as far as describing them as 2 gay men. But please, by all means, make another poster feel bad over something so petty when she was only trying to be nice to begin with!

Feel free to pick apart my post if I made any grammatical/spelling errors. I am sure most of the board is able to comprehend the meaning either way.

:thumbsup2 Very well said. I cannot believe what's going on on this thread. Enough already. Take it to PMs. I was corrected once in PM for how I spelled something wrong and I was grateful and much preferred that it was in PMs.

I also very much appreciate your recaps, Christmas Elf. Don't sweat the negative posts. :goodvibes

Ok, I will pick apart..

1) Its not a misspelling of a characters name its a misproununciation.
I will use the Charlie/Shirley analogy YET AGAIN. If you were named Charlie/you sure wouldn't want to be called Shirley. The ch sounds in Charlie would be similiar to Charmaine, and Shirley (well not really close to the shou sound by the Xiou, but its sounds similiar.. we don't have an English equivalent letter wise to the shou sound)

Charmaine sounds nothing like Xiou Mei.. at least if you are saying Xiou Mei correctly. Even if you somewhat butcher it my pronouncing it Chow-may, it still doesn't sound like Charmaine.

She did not note the health dept. reference, and it wasn't moo shu pork either. Moo shu doesn't have an orange stain which reflected on the yellow shirt of Gaby. Mooshu would have more a brown stain... that s just a continuity error with the show, not the recap. I'm sure orange looked better than a brown stain on the yellow blouse.

So, its two different issues.. mispronounciation instead of misspelling... it took me a few times to get Xiou-Mei correct. At least make the effort to make it correct.. please!

Wow, this is a discussion about a fictional show. There's no reason to be this anal. You've made your point; now let it go. We all know which character is being discussed, so, really, the proper spelling is not that important.

Again misprounciation... it doesn't take much time to do things right instead of the lazy Americanized way.. Charmaine vs. Xiou-Mei. In fact Xiou-mei is less characters and correct!

Now you are calling her lazy when she took 1/2 hour of her time to post a recap for us. Nice. :confused3

This is just unreal.

Her original post was Charmay, which is much closer than Charmaine, which is what YOU have posted.
I for one appreciate the time Christmaself took to put a recap up. Thank you Christmas Elf!!!

Cindy B, I guess this means YOU are going to be posting the recaps from now on, wth the corrrect pronunciations & spellings, as it doesn't take much time.

I thought the same thing.

While the dish that was splattered all over Gaby's shirt may not have been moo shu pork, she did refer to it when she threatened to report the restaurant for what they put in the moo shu pork!

This thread has taken an unbelievable turn! Thanks Christmas Elf - your efforts are appreciated!

Oh, and by the way, the correct spelling is Mispronunciation. Aren't we supposed to rip apart people's threads?

Cindy B, I suggest you just let it go. No one likes a nit picker on a message board. There is no spelling police or name pronunciation monitors here. :teeth: It is just conversation about subjects that interest us.

I would hate to think I need to take notes on a program in order to discuss it later here, but I would not be surprised if Christmas Elf does take notes. Her recaps are great and I enjoy and appreciate them. :thumbsup2

Now if anyone wants to do their own, or add to them fine. Picking them apart and going on about a name (a very uncommon one at that) is just over the top. I don't think Christmas elf has cornered the market on recaps. :)

Beth 76, I agree. Either bad writing, or it will become clear in time. Who was the women in the golf course ground???? And yes, this does seem all to familiar.

Are you of Asian decent? Is that why you are taking such offense to the spelling of the name? Good grief. Let it go already. It's a TV show with fake characters. We all knew who she was talking about, and you did too. :sad2:

Did anyone else see Marcia Cross on Regis & Kelly this morning? I had no idea she was pregnant in real life. I wonder how they will hide it!

Allrighty then! Back to DH. According to TV Guide, one of the leading characters will die during November sweeps. I read somewhere else it is not one of the housewives! Hope it's not Mike.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!

I started this thread sometime last year and have LOVED the updates. I started it to discuss the show with others who also enjoy it. In no way did I ever think that anyone would be reprimanded for spelling errors, incorrect characters names (there aren't too many oriental pregnant women living with Gabby - we know who everyone is talking about here), or anything else....it's a TV show and supposed to be for entertainment! Sort of takes all the fun out of the thread and puts it down on another level entirely.

I say keep up the Desperate Housewives chat and let the other go! Don't respond - just IGNORE. If you are corrected - just sit back and know that the rest of us couldn't care less about your mistakes. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the recaps Christmas Elf they are great!!! :cheer2:

I actually didn't know who she was talking about at first... It has to be done correctly. Many characters come and go... and I like things correct!

I'm just saying that is isn't correct. All it takes is to write the correct name. It doesn't take much to do.

I will keep pointing out the error until it is done correctly. With a show with so many recurring and constant characters, it really doesn't take much to do one name correctly.

She asked if she forgot or didn't add anything. I pointed out one blatant error (the mispronunciation) and some small errors--mu shu vs. what was actually thrown. Again a continuity error, not a recap error. I found that was a production error not a recap.

If she doesn't want direction or errors pointed out, she shouldn't put that line in there. I'm willing to point out errors when I see them (and others have to) until it is done correctly.

It is a big deal. Do things correctly. Give the credit where it is due.

NO NO NO!!!!! It cannot be Mike. Too cute to go. That would leave NO eye candy for me. ;)

I'm crossing my fingers for Edie to go if somebody has to. I don't hate her, I just wouldn't miss her that's all. :rotfl2:

All that I am asking for is accurate titles of characters. With all the characters coming and going, it is IMPERATIVE that correct characters or actual names be used. For example, I used Laurie Metcalf's name because I didn't recall her character name and didn't want to be wrong about it.

If it were my name, I'd be offended by the absoluete butchering of Charmaine instead of Xiou-Mei. Its like Charlie and Shirley... two totally different names/sounds. Charlie/Shirley--similiar sounds but totally different meanings.

I teach speech to autistic students so I place a lot of emphasis on word sounds/tongue placement. I can hear the difference clear as day.

Why is it imperative? Is someone going to die if a name isn't absolutely correct  ? I doubt anyone else doesn't realize that Charmaine and Xiou Mei are one in the same. Someone is doing a really nice thing by posting the recaps. The last thing any of us should do is get on her case about accuracy.

Ok, back on topic. :goodvibes

I do not think Mike will die. I'm 99% sure I saw him on an interview the end of last season saying that he and Susan will eventually be together or something to that effect.

I really believe he's staying for a good while.

I don't know if this was done on purpose or not, but this made me laugh. When Kyle McLaughlin (Orson) was on Sex and the City his character said "alrighty then" a lot. :rotfl:

I will keep pointing out the error until it is done correctly.
Christmas Elf, please PLEASE keep typing Charmaine. I triple dog dare you!!!! :stir: :rotfl2:

Accuracy is important. Again, I wasn't the only who pointed it out. But I am thrilled that you are spelling it correctly now!
