I was at WDW 3 weeks ago and on our last day we got one of the ready-available cakes at Chef Mickey's. It was $22.00 I believe (either 21 or 22).

We were there Dec 3 for a late breakfast. I purchased a small Tinkerbell snowglobe and a Stitch pin for my daughter and asked the server to add it to the cake in order to personalize it. They brought out the cake after we were done eating and my sweet girl was SO surprised (she's 8). They put a Minnie Mouse picture on the cake and placed it on one of the Mickey head plates and put the snowglobe and the pin I purchased on the ears of the plate and sprinkled colorful sprinkles on it. About 30 seconds after they brought it out, Mickey Mouse was due at our table and played a conductor & had us and the tables near us sing Happy Birthday. :goodvibes

The cake actually tasted good compared to the other 100.00 cakes I've gotten in previous visits from the Grand Floridian bakery. The buttercream was sweet. The cake wasn't that fresh homemade taste but none of the cakes at WDW are.

I thought it was cute, it served its purpose, it wasn't huge, just enough for 2 kids and 2 adults with plenty left over but not a ridiculous amount, and it was a good price!! And my 8 year old loved it. And she is a cake snob! LOL

Just back last night from our "belated" honeymoon trip. I had our cake delivered to CM after our breakfast on 12/3. The cake looked awesome!! Better than what I was expecting. We did not cut it there so they boxed it up for us (after looking for a big enough box) It made it all the way back to SSR. When we did cut it later that night, I must say I was a little disappointed in how it tasted. I had ordered a marble cake, white choc. mousse, white butter cream and than the fondant. The white choc. mousse (or what was supposed to be white choc. mousse) looked and tasted like pudding. Neither hubby or I liked it at all. We also thought the layers of cake were very thin, not much cake. I will post pictures as soon as I get them uploaded. As I said previously...the cake looked amazing, but with it not tasting so good I was not happy to pay that much to not eat it.

:wave2: HEY!!! momof2OH! I saw you and your cake in person!!!!!! You and your hubby were sitting across from us, we were the family with the two children kinda diagonal from you. I just knew you had to be on the DIS when I saw the cake!!! LOL I think I asked you something about if Brian made it, etc. It truly looked gorgeous, so sorry it didn't taste that great!! I think they really need to do a taste test of their cakes because for the $$$ that they are the cake should taste good!

oh my god - i LOVE this thread.

it will give me some wonderful ideas for our next trip that will be celebrating our 10th anniversary.

our wedding cake was a disaster so we are both looking for something special to make up for it.

getting a little nervous.....waited until last friday to order a custom cake for a birthday in less than two weeks. Called GF and got pat's voice mail on friday and left a message. i called back this morning (monday) and left a message again. Still no returned call. I'm worried that with the holidays, i'm going to miss speaking to her to get this cake ordered. by the time the holidays are over, i will have left for my trip and the 48 hr. deadline for ordering a custom cake will be upon me!

when i first called the cake hotline, I took the prompt for the gf private dining, someone else answered ( i think maybe the bakery??) . Everything i had read on this board said speak to pat, so i asked to speak with her. Could I, or Should I , have ordered with this person who answered the phone, or am i better off speaking directly with pat? HELP!

I had my cake at the Contemporary but I completely bypassed the hotline. Call the GF and ask for private dining then ask for Pat. BTW, I ordered my cake about 1.5 weeks in advance and it was fine.

applechips...I do remember you!! Did not know at the time you were a Diser :). Yes the cake looked amazing and was very happy until we tasted it. From what someone posted on here I don't even think it was what I ordered (on the inside). So to spend that much money and hubby and I only having 1 bite each is such a disappointment and makes me very mad!! We kept some of the pieces from the top but basicly the whole cake went in the garbage. Couldn't even eat the flowers or ribbon.
I guess I wish when you order something, no matter the price, it is done how you order it. If they can't do what you want then they should tell you, not tell you ok and then do what they want.

Me too. I left a message Saturday, so I thought I would hear something today. But nothing. I also ordered a cake for Chef Mickey's and I was able to order that on Saturday. I think I might try to call again tomorrow for the one I need for the GF's 1900 Park Fare.

I just wanted to post my postive experience with GF Private dining. We had tea at the GF on Sunday December 13. I ordered "A white chocolate Mickey Mouse with some kind of dark chocolate candy. The person has a nut allergy so it can't have nuts. A banner or something that says, 'Dreams Do Come True' Oh, and decorated for Christmas." What I got was stunning. The dark chocolate candy were truffles. The Mickey was decorated with the gold. It was served on a large square plate with the writing on the plate in one corner and red poinsettias like the ones on the GF Gingerbread house decorated the plate. It cost $57 or $58 dollars. We had a TIW card so it was discounted. A tip was added on the tea service and the candy and I added a little more. It was a great experience. Unfortunately due to being a technological moron I don't know how to post the picture :sad2:

:scared1: I would hope Disney wouldn't do that after quoting $75. I thought there was a Mad Hatter-style cake posted a while back that was made by AKL and was in the $75 range. I too don't get the price disparity between this and GF's pricing :confused3.

Pat at the GF told me that ALL Mad hatter style cakes start at $200. I really wish they would get a standard pricing chart.

I thought the idea Applechips have with the pin, snow globe, and cake placed on the Miceky-shaped plate is cute. Thought we could do the same for DD when we go to 'Ohana on 1/22/2010? Do you think I can request for 'Ohana to do the same? Will they have these Mickey-shaped plates available at 'Ohana? Thanks!

I could be wrong but I believe all of the TS restaurants have those plates for kids. I know that they have them at Kona Cafe which is right around the corner from 'Ohana.

If you go to a site like Photobucket and open a free account you can upload photos there. It will then give you an "IMG" code that you simply copy and paste into your DIS post. HTH

Well chipper...did you hear back from pat? She returned my call (all three of them) late last night. That lady was burning the midnight oil. It was after 8 my time, so it was after 9 for her and she was still at work.

Anyway, I got the bd cake ordered...but I'm not sure what i ordered. I was pretty confused when it was all over. I initially wanted the age to be individually cut numbers from white chocolate and standing up on top of the cake. She told me they couldn't do this. Wound up with a disc (???) on top with the age----8" vanilla , buttercream filling, pink fondant with white and chocolate swiss dots over it. The age disc will be dark chocolate with the numbers edged out in pink. She said about 90 or 100; was going to call me back today after she spoke to the bakery to give me a definite cost. Said it would be added to our dinner billl at 1900 park faire.

I hope it looks beautiful....I think i wound up ordering something that was complete opposite of what i originally planned. How'd that happen?

I think Pat definitely works nights or at least some weeknights. She would return my calls (and interestingly enough other people's calls to my number) around 4:45 to 5pm. That's when I would be leaving my last meeting from work. I would immediately try and call her back thinking that she probably worked 8am-6pm or 9am-5pm, but was never able to get her. One night I called back around 9pm thinking I would just leave her another message because she would be gone for the day, but that's when I was most successful reaching her. Try calling between 8:30pm and 9:30pm and you might be able to reach her. I spoke to her on two occasions after 8:30pm. It might be a quiet time of night where she is able to finally get to her phone calls.

For other posters still trying to reach her, be prepared that the conversation may be a little confusing and hard to follow. Definitely do your research on the thread, know what you want, and be persistent. She was pleasant, but not very helpful with my ordering process either. Couldn't answer my questions, told me they couldn't do one thing, but then said they could..etc. I called back to confirm everything because she made me so nervous. DisneyBird I hope that your cake turns out well. It sounds very pretty. Good luck.

She must have called me after she was done with you. :) It was after 8 when she called me last night and I'm in Illinois. I ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. I felt a little rushed and like she wasn't exactly listening to what I was looking for, but I'm sure she is very busy and had a lot of people to contact. I got silver Mickeys stamped into the fondant. I told her I wanted "Always and Forever" somewhere on the cake, because it is for our 5 year anniversary. She said it would cost $66. I just hope it turns out nice. I will find out on January 8th!

I know....I felt the same way, a little rushed and like she really wasn't listening to me. I also would have like a little help with recommendations of what would look good, but she didn't offer any. *SIGH* Oh, well, I'm sure like you said, that she is very busy.

On a positive Pat note....she did call me last night about 6 central time, on CHRISTMAS DAY to confirm details about the birthday cake. How's that for Disney service ??? WOW!! The lady was working on Christmas day. She wished me a merry christmas and apologized for calling on this day, but said she wanted to confirm some details about the cake. We did, and she said she hoped the cake turned out the way i wanted it and that she hoped I'd let her know how we liked it. -----I hope it turns out great too. I'll be there in less than a week. Will post some pics when I return.

I too dealt with Pat from GF for my DD5 birthday cake last month. I'm not bashing Pat, I actually liked dealing with her. Just do your homework before talking with her. When she does call you (at night), be prepared for quick responses. She wanted to set me up with a standard cake until I explained to her that I had something specific in mind and that I had pictures of a few cakes that I wanted blended together. She was more than happy to give me her email address and pulled the pics up as I spoke with her. She gave me a price ($90) on the phone and was more than happy to accomodate us. The next day after we received my daughters cake for her birthday dinner at Narcoossees, I called Pat from our hotel room to thank her. She was so happy and surprised to get a call from a guest while still on vacation. Here is a picture of the cake they made for my daughter:

Can anyone tell me if Boma is still offering the custom cake that looks like it has zebra stripes? Isn't there some kind of liqueur in the mousse filling? Any idea of the cost? TIA!

Wow, loving this thread. Looking for a cake for my husband on our upcoming trip. It may take me a minute to get through all the pictures! But thanks for posting!!!:goodvibes
