The one thing I can say about my experience ordering a cake at the Contemporary was that it was painless. I got someone on the first call I made to them and they took my order then and there.

The bad thing was that my $80 cake was nothing special. Cute, but not $80 cute, you know what I mean.

I think that I am done with the custom cake idea for now. I found that on the dining plan there was too much food AND it already includes dessert. Talk about gilding the lily.

Ok guys...

I am in love with this cake thread...

But there are a few questions that I have, that are unresolved.

First, I am wanting to get a 6" white cake with bavarian cream and fresh strawberries. I was really wanting the white fondant cake with the silver mickey heads... but the cost for fondant is just crazy.

So how can I get by with requesting a 6" custom cake, as others have for the "anniversary cake"?

This is for our honeymoon.

Thanks.

I first called through the cake line and then selected prompt for GF, then the person from GF said I needed to talk to Pat for special/custom cakes and gave me her direct line (I also ended up receiving this same number from a DIS member who PM’d it to me so I know it was correct- if someone wants it I will PM it to them) and left a message explaining what I wanted to do….gave it a few days and heard no response. So I tried calling again a few days ago and left another message and no call back  Maybe it’s just a really busy time now and I know it’s 2 months ahead of time; but, it would have been nice to atleast receive a quick call back letting me know they received my message on the customized anniversary cake order and will get back to me when they can for a quote and design discussion.
But as I said, I decided not to go crazy with an expensive cake on our anniversary dinner…eating at Narcoossee will be special enough! I rather get the Mickey head cake and surprise the family on our first dinner at Disney and use the extra money to go towards having something special delivered to the room for us to enjoy at night on our patio like chocolate covered strawberries and champagne :cloud9:
I really hope everyone else has better luck with Pat & the GF…just keep on trying if you can’t get through to someone…I would have if I didn’t decide to do something different.

Thanks for sharing your experience CubanaMama. I know EXACTLY how you feel about not receiving a simple, quick reply to your messages. Very frustrating, indeed!:headache:

We're staying Club-Level at the GF in September, and the emails that I sent when we were about 100 days out, never received a response. On the bright side, now that we're under 90 days and they've made our dining reservations, I've been receiving timely replies to my inquiries. :thumbsup2

Unfortunately though, IPO would not take or forward my custom cake order - instead they told me I had to do it myself. Specifically, IPO recommended that I hold-off placing a cake order until 1-2 weeks prior. ::yes::

Your strawberries and champagne idea sounds wonderful too!

I posted this before but it got lost in the fold.

I am wondering if they make a gluten free cake or cupcake dessert???

Specifically because it is our anniversary and I don't want to order a cake and my DS cannot eat it. So I was thinking of getting the kids those little treasure chests if they could do a GF version for my son.

My daughter is getting a cinderella slipper at CRT and I would get both kids those treasure chests but won't do it if only 1 kid can have one!!!!!!

Hello Cake Chatters!

I have a few questions for you. My sister will be turning 21 in October. She is going down to WDW in August through the Disney College Program. She's going to work at the resorts. She's very excited!

My mom and I plan to fly down for her 21st birthday. I'd like to get her a cake at whatever restaurant we end up at the night of her birthday - it will be a signature restaurant, but we haven't narrowed down which one yet. I know she'll want the cake to be chocolate with chocolate mouse filling.

She's a huge Mary Poppins fan, so I was wondering if anyone has ever ordered/seen a cake with some sort of Mary Poppins design? I'm not too worried about cost - I don't have the highest paying job in the world, but I can save up enough money to foot the bill for a WDW cake. I just want her birthday to be awesome! My 21st was spent at a funeral home, so I want to do hers better.

I'm just doing some early research now. I know I won't need to place an order for quite some time, but any suggestions/references you can give me would be helpful!

Now that I'm a little past the 90-day mark, I can start planning my cake!

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

I would like it to be similar to our wedding cake (well, the top layer, haha)

but with a white/orange/purple theme, since I want it to be Figment-ized as a joint DH Birthday/1st Anniversary cake

I'm hoping to inspire a polka-dot-cake anniversary trend hahaha

ahh cake excitement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have the most adorable cake topper ever! (You guys must be so sweet!)
Could you PM me with who/where it was made? TIA:flower3:

My kids are designing my cake :goodvibes (with a little guidance --I had to steer DS away from the Lion King theme for me :) )
So, he is now thinking Minnie Mouse. Fine. I've read through this thread so many times. Anyone remember a Minnie Mouse cake (or even a topper)? I believe I have seen Mickey and Minnie, but maybe that was for an anniversary.

You can get a Mickey Head cake designed as a Minnie Head cake.

However, if you want something a little more special, look at post # 261 on p. 18 of the Official Cake Chatter Thread Part 2. I saw this cake last year posted by another DISer. I ordered basically the same cake (no originalality on my part) for my daughter at the Yachtsmens Steak House a couple of weeks later. It was BEAUTIFUL and YUMMY!

Hope that helps!

That is an adorable cake! May I ask how much you paid for it?

Hi, We will be dining at Citricos for our anniversary on Sunday. I would like to order a special cake for my husband. Should I call the cake hotline number or is there a special number for the Grand Floridian?

Thanks

Thanks so much! I'd missed that one.
That is likely what the kids have in mind with maybe some color changes.
What flavor, filling did you get?
I wonnder if the options on plentiful for this type of cake. I'm kind of scared of what my kids might come up with ...:rotfl:

I know this is shameful to admit, but...I am not sure I remember exactly what I paid for the cake.

I *THINK* it was around $100 and the filling was chocolate with chocolate mousse I believe. I didn't ask about "fancy" flavors because I didn't need them. DD is a chocolate girl! We did modify the red roses to strawberries, I believe.

I took pictures of it on my iPhone, but I dropped it and before I could download the pictures, and it died a quick and awful death. That trip was at the end of summer last year and the pictures from EVERY summer vacation we took were in that camera. They are gone forever...:sad1: Otherwise, I could show you the finished product. Honestly, it is much prettier in real life.

I was VERY pleased with the cake.

Hope that helps!

I know, I was so bummed about my pics! Even had an "Apple Genius" try to retrieve them...no go!

Anyway, I hope, hope, hope you get this cake! It is a FANTASTIC presentation! The entire restaurant stopped when it came through! The OP that posted it was a GEM, too! I PM'd her for info. on ordering and she was SO NICE! Overall, a great Disney experience.

Ok before I even attempt to post photos of the cake I ordered at Cape May, can some one please help me out. I have never posted photos on here and I thought some one said you have to use a photo hosting site. So if some one could help I would appreciate it and I will get photos up of the wonderful Mad Hatter cake we had! TIA!

Yes, they can make a gluten free cake. I'm not sure about one of the treasure chests, but they can make a gluten free cake for you.

I'm planning a trip before Christmas but I want to get my son a holiday cake from Mickey. Does anyone have a picture of a cake they got during the holiday time?

Thank you

Ok I think I have a link to the photos of the cake I had made for my kids at Cape May Cafe, Mad Hatter cake, it was 12 layers, we had this cake on Sunday June 7th the first day we arrived.
