I called the 407-827-2253 number, chose POR and was sent to "Chef Mike's" voicemail. Have called once a day for the last 2 weeks and all I ever get is his voicemail. :headache: Have left a message each day and have never received a call back. :sad2: I gave up and just ordered something from Disney Florist to have delivered instead. It's not a cake, but a basket with snacks, WDW (cooler) lunch bag, etc. I thought about ordering them ears, but don't want to waste the $$ if they won't wear them. I know that they are dining at a few places, but don't know what day.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience. Looks like the deluxe resorts are better equipped to handle special orders.

Might be doing something for a specialty cake at Boma. Called the cake hotline, punched the appropriate buttons to get me to Jiko/Boma. Even though it was 9PM in FL a person did answer and I just verified that I needed to do a 10 inch cake in order to have special flavors/decorations. Cake $45, decorations $30...that was all I was trying to verify on the call. When we were done she did mention the 'podium' cakes, which I told her I wasn't interested in, then she gave me this number to call 407-560-3551 for ordering the special cake. It's the number for Disney Hollywood Studios and she said they would deliver to Boma. Didn't have a chance to call there tonight, so I thought I'd check in here and see if anyone has used this location to order specialty cakes for ALK/Jiko/Boma delivery.

Thanks for your guidance!

I'de be interested in that too. I've checked on the cake thread and haven't really seen anything. :sad1:

So I thought about ordering the Mad Hatter cake for an "unbirthday" celebration at the 1900 Pk Fare bfast. Seemed appropriate for the theme, but I read on here that the Mad Hatter cake was like $145 -- not a chance am I paying that much. So I'm back to square one. The Mickey head cake pic on this thread with dark choc ganache and white choc shavings looks really good. Does it taste as good as it looks? Also, which is the best bakery to order it from? We have meals scheduled at the Poly, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, AK Lodge, and every theme park at some point during our trip.

I ordered the Mickey Head cake by calling AKL Private Dining for Jiko. I wasn't told I'd have to call another number or that it would be delivered from DHS (which sounds really strange). I'd try calling back during the day and speak with the person in Private Dining who coordinates the ordering of specialty cakes.

Good luck!

I agree it is weird. I was going to get a cake for our anniversary at Jiko (and later changed my mind), and nothing was said about Studios. It's even further away from AKL than Epcot is. I also called to see if they could make a cookie cake for DH's birthday at Sanaa (they can't), and again, nothing about Studios. Since AKL does weddings I assume they have their own fully equipped bakery.

We thought the Mickey head cake was delicious; have only ordered it at AKL so I can't compare it with other resort bakeries. I can say I've ordered two specialty cakes from GF (both had white buttercream icing, white cake, strawberries/custard filling) - one (ordered in Sept 07) was really yummy and beautifully decorated; the other (May 08) was really dry and seemed hastily and unimaginatively decorated. Each cake cost $45. So I think it's hit or miss.

Has anyone done the new Pirate Or Princess cake you get at the buffet?
If so how was it..

Ok, I confused about the Mad Hatter cake. I saw on one thread a pic that said it was like $145. But then I just found a pic on the Official Cake Thread (post 2 by lurkyloo) what looks like the exact same cake except they added a topper and made it as an anniversary cake, that said it was $55 (without the topper). I'm confused. Anybody know?

I called 1900 Park Fare 2 days ago and left a message to order a cake. How long does it normally take for a return call? We leave in 10 days.

Since AKL does weddings I assume they have their own fully equipped bakery.

Only Jiko is used for wedding receptions, and any wedding cakes you see served there were made elsewhere on property and transported - usually from the Grand Floridian Bakery, which makes almost all of the cakes for Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings. But I'm sure the GF Bakery would transport any cake you wanted to AKL for a hefty delivery fee. :thumbsup2

That cake is a standard 6-inch round, not a Mad Hatter cake, and it cost $110. It might be confusing because I posted that I was originally quoted $55 until they found out I wanted all those fondant doo-dads on the sides and the topper.

The Mad Hatter Cake has to be made in a special shape - it is lopsided and taller, like the yellow and red cake I posted on this thread a page or two back - and with loads of spendy decorations to make it look like a Mad Hatter cake :goodvibes

Ok, found it. I see the difference now. Thanks.

Are Mickey Head cakes available at all deluxe resort restaurants?
I decided to nix the custom anniversary cake idea at Narcoossee- mainly because Pat never got back to me both times I called and left a message….no biggie, maybe it’s the best, I’m sure Narcoossee’s desserts will be nice enough for our anniversary dinner :)
Instead, I think I just want to order a Mickey Head cake for the family at our first night’s dinner (Kona @ Poly) as a “Welcome to Disney” surprise. These cakes seem pretty common on this site, so do you think I will have a probably ordering it at the Poly? I have heard before that their bakery is pretty small and limited. I hope I have better luck with someone from there :rolleyes1

Now that I'm a little past the 90-day mark, I can start planning my cake!

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

I would like it to be similar to our wedding cake (well, the top layer, haha)

but with a white/orange/purple theme, since I want it to be Figment-ized as a joint DH Birthday/1st Anniversary cake

I'm hoping to inspire a polka-dot-cake anniversary trend hahaha

ahh cake excitement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I'd let you all know that my friend found out that the Publix near WDW will do cakes with photo images on them. I know it won't work for anyone without wheels, but it is an option for some of you who want a special cake that is less expensive. We called Boma and they do allow you to bring in your own cake, but they will not store it (keep it anywhere till dessert time) or serve it. They give you plates and knives but you have to cut/serve it yourself.

It would be cute if you already had a photo of your child with their favorite charactor from a previous visit.

(Oh...and she says their cakes are really good.)

I have to agree that Publix cakes are really delicious! :thumbsup2 That is where we got our wedding cake and transported it for the wedding. Loved that cake:cool1:

Here's my cake story!

Type of Cake: Mickey Head Cake: White Cake + Chocolate Ganache
Location: Crystal Palace
Price: $48

I ordered this cake as a welcome suprise for the kids, hence the words around it say 'Welcome to Disney'. However, as I was celebrating my birthday during the trip, they added a candle and sang Happy Birthday for me. The cake was delicious, super moist and super tasty. There were 7 of us and it lasted throughout 7 days in the room fridge. I had some the night before we left and it still tasted great. I'm glad I ordered the kind with Vanilla cake, I think if it had been all chocolate it would be too much. BTW, CP held the cake for us until park closing at 10pm that night.

Yikes! This is not what I wanted to hear!...:scared1:
I have my 40th birthday dinner planned for Narcoossee's and was planning on ordering a custom cake from the GF.
May I ask what number you were using to reach Pat and how far in advance you were calling?

I just switched my ADR to Narcossee's to celebrate my 40th BD!
Sure hope I don't have trouble ordering a cake. I switched to a GF restaurant because so many of their cakes are beautiful.

My kids are designing my cake :goodvibes (with a little guidance --I had to steer DS away from the Lion King theme for me :) )
So, he is now thinking Minnie Mouse. Fine. I've read through this thread so many times. Anyone remember a Minnie Mouse cake (or even a topper)? I believe I have seen Mickey and Minnie, but maybe that was for an anniversary.

I first called through the cake line and then selected prompt for GF, then the person from GF said I needed to talk to Pat for special/custom cakes and gave me her direct line (I also ended up receiving this same number from a DIS member who PM’d it to me so I know it was correct- if someone wants it I will PM it to them) and left a message explaining what I wanted to do….gave it a few days and heard no response. So I tried calling again a few days ago and left another message and no call back  Maybe it’s just a really busy time now and I know it’s 2 months ahead of time; but, it would have been nice to atleast receive a quick call back letting me know they received my message on the customized anniversary cake order and will get back to me when they can for a quote and design discussion.
But as I said, I decided not to go crazy with an expensive cake on our anniversary dinner…eating at Narcoossee will be special enough! I rather get the Mickey head cake and surprise the family on our first dinner at Disney and use the extra money to go towards having something special delivered to the room for us to enjoy at night on our patio like chocolate covered strawberries and champagne :cloud9:
I really hope everyone else has better luck with Pat & the GF…just keep on trying if you can’t get through to someone…I would have if I didn’t decide to do something different.
