Ooooh - Can't wait to see your pix!:goodvibes
Your cake sounds very, very similar to what I plan on ordering in Sept for my 40th birthday at Nacroossees.

May I ask how and when you got in touch with Pat? I've read conflicting accounts here on her responsiveness and/or willingness to accomodate custom cake orders. TIA:flower3:

I called the cake hotline and got through to the Grand Floridian. I don't know who answered for them, but she told me she could only take orders for 6" celebration cakes, and that for a custom cake I would have to call Pat's direct line. She gave me the number and transfered my call (Pat's direct line is 407-824-1951). I left a message w/ Pat on Monday morning. Tuesday I called her back in the afternoon, no answer, didn't leave another message. Wednesday morning I called...no answer...waited 15 minutes and called back and I got her. She said she called me back yesterday and left a message w/ my husband, who said I was picking up my daughter from cheerleading. My daughter is 21 months old, so no cheerleading, and DH said he didn't take a call for me, but whatever.

Since there we are only a party of 5 for dinner, she kept pushing me towards the 6". I told her I didn't mind leftovers, since we are local, and that I definitely wanted something customized. She said I could get a 6" for $21 and get it customized for an additional $30. Since I wanted the cake coffee-themed, she offered to have the bakery make me an 8" tiramisu. Well...we had the tiramisu at Mama Melrose's once and hated it, so I asked if it would be the same recipe or if the GF had their own. She said she didn't know, so I decided not to risk it (we have a favorite restaurant for tiramisu anyway!). I asked how much a customized 8" would be, and she said $62, so $10 more for about 25% more cake...that's what I went with.

After I had pretty much put my foot down that I was getting an 8" customized, she became very helpful. I had an idea of putting whipped cream or buttercream or something on just the top of the cake to look like foam on the top of a cappuccino, and she told me they couldn't do it. She said they couldn't put that on top of ganache, it would have to be instead of. I'm sure they COULD do it, it would just cost more, and for whatever reason she didn't want to give me the option to pay extra for it. She asked questions about what my mom likes and was looking through clip art of edible images they could put on the cake.

Thanks for sharing the details of your experience. It sounds like if you can actually get in-touch with her, Pat's cakes turn out wonderful.

I'll be waiting for the pictures!

Hi everyone!

New to the cake thread and just had a few questions.

I'm thinking about ordering a cake for our trip in December. I'd like to have it customized with a Christmas theme and was wondering:

1. How early is too early to call? Obviously I'm still 5 months out, but I'd like to work with a baker directly to get the cake designed how I would like it so I want to give them more than the minimum amount of notice required.

2. We will be staying at Boardwalk Villas. If I would like the cake delivered to my room from the Boardwalk Bakery, is that possible or do they do pick-ups only? If they do deliveres, can I schedule a certain time I'd like to have it arrive?

3. Can you order a cake and isn't your typical square or round shape? One possibility is to have the cake shaped like a Christmas ball (a sphere) but I didn't know if they did that.

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Ann

I'm not sure if i'm posting in the correct location or not, or maybe i've missed this information as i was scanning through all the threads and postings...

2. I"d like to know ALL flavors that are available for a cake?

3. Do i just email them a photo of what i want the cake to look like?

If anyone can answer my questions and/or direct me to the correct place that would be great..thanks!!

if you go to page 1 of this thread it either has the flaovours listed or you can click on the other two (now closed) cake thread links and the flavours are on page one of one of those.

any pics you can send them is appreciated, but i belive from reading on here fax is better as it appears the email thats provided isnt answered often.

Hi,

Hope you can help me. It is my Niece's 15th Birthday the day we arrive and we are having dinner at Tony's Town Square (it has special meaning for us). I would like to have a cake or celebration dessert. There will only be 5 of us so don't want a large cake nor do I want to just have the cake you order at the podium as it needs to be a little bit more special. Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Kinda a random question but, what does the fondant taste like? And vs. the buttercream, which would you choose?

I would say no sooner than 1 month, better about 2 weeks, and no later than the 48 hours they tell you is the cut-off. :)

If you order the cake through Private Dining they can deliver it to your room, but you may not get the personalized service you would get from ordering straight through the Bakery. What I don't know is whether or not you can get them to deliver it to your room if you deal directly with the bakery....

Disney usually says they can't do special shapes for cakes (other than the Mad Hatter), but I have seen a pillow-shaped cake on these boards. You might ask - just be prepared to get a no! :rotfl:

You would need to call the Cake Hotline listed on the first page of this thread and follow the prompts for the Magic Kingdom, then Tony's. Only they can tell you exactly what your options are. :) However, in general, Disney will tell you they don't customize any cake smaller than a 10-inch, and the theme park restaurants seem to have fewer options for cakes than the resort restaurants.

Disney's fondant tastes dry and waxy/crumbly, and most people peel it off. You don't have to choose, though - if you get a fondant cake, there is buttercream underneath to adhere it to the cake. :thumbsup2

Here's a pic of DH's cake from Boma on 7/12. The cake is gorgeous - he loved it - but it hadn't been stored properly so we couldn't eat it. Two ladies came out and broke the news that the chocolate mousse filling would make us sick since it wasn't kept cool overnight. We weren't charged for the cake and they brought out a sampling of other desserts instead. They offered to bring another cake to out room that evening, but DH declined. Our flight left the next day, so he thought it would go to waste.

That's a terrible shame - it looks wonderful. I'm glad they didn't charge you though, and still brought you that very cute little elephant.

robandkelly13: That's too bad:sad2::sad1: it was such a nice cake at least there was no charge and they brought you out something extra to try to make it up! I think the chocolate elephant is cute though! Was the other desserts good at least?

Sorry things didn't work out the way you planned but there is a silver lining in this. I think many of us on this board order the larger cakes for the Wow factor of how it looks on the outside. It's watching our loved one's reaction to seeing the cake we just knew they'd love.

The fact that your DH got to see his cake (and the thought and love you put into it), still had other yummy desserts to eat and you didn't have to pay for it isn't a terrible tradeoff. Especially since you were leaving the next day.

It really looked awesome - and there's always next time.

At our local bakery, they have a cake which is rasberry mouse, chocolate mouse, and chocolate cake and I love it so you should be ok. :thumbsup2

Hi Folks!

Ok, so DH and I are travelling to The World in October to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary...and I am thinking one of these cakes would just simply be an amazing touch (in addition to the fact that we are travelling minus our four kids...!)

Here are our ADR's to date...which location do you think would be more ideal to order a fancy cake from?

Day 1 - dinner @ CRT
Day 2 - dinner @ Tutto Italia
Day 3 - dinner @ Hoop de doo
Day 4 - dinner @ Tony's

Would any of these work in your opinion?
Tonight, when the kiddies are in bed I am going to spend time (hours likely) looking at all the lovely cake photo's and reading this thread, just thought maybe I could get some feedback in the meantime!

TIA!:flower3:

Hi I hope you can help. I've looked through this thread (not all of it though) the picture thread and Disney's website.

DS11 and I will be there Aug 8-15 staying at CBR. Anyway I want to get him a cake, it's not his birthday but he did just finish elementary school and maintained honor roll despite the fact that he was hospitalized 3 times and missed more than a month of school this year (chronic medical condition:sick:). I thnk that is something to celebrate :yay:! He loves Pirates but it doesn't have to be pirates. I can't find pictures of anything other than the little treasure chest.

I saw where some one was going to have the Star Wars Mickey changed to a pirate but don't know if this happened or how it turned out.

I'm open to any ideas, suggestions etc. BTW I know it's just the two of us and small cake would be best but if I have to go bigger to get something special then we will just have to eat it all week long :cutie:

Our ADR's are CRT, Le Cellier, Rose and Crown, Hollywood Brown Derby and Teppan Edo oh and Ohana breakfast (10:50 am) if that helps :)

Finally uploaded my pics so I can share my cake story! I ordered this cake from GF and it was delivered to our table after our dinner at 1900 Park Fare on June 20th. It's a 10" Marble cake with strawberries & custard filling and pink fondant! Very yummy! Price was $60.00 + tax.

And I also ordered stawberries and the chocolate Mickey for Father's Day on June 21st from GF bakery as we stayed at the GF. Wonderful! I'm sorry I don't remember the price and I couldn't find my receipt from private dining.
