Official Breast Feeding Support Thread for WDW Parks

Hi Ladies, I need some guidance and advice. I'm getting ready top head to Disney in October and will be still BF'ing. Originally my plans were to stop BF'ing at a year, but I'm thinking of letting DS set the pace for weaning. Has anyone had problems with nursing old infants at Disney. DS will be 13 months when we go. Also DS hates being covered, but I try my best to be discrete.

Katie was 13 mos old for her first trip, 17 mos for her 2nd, and we go back next week at 26 mos for her 3rd. She is still nursing, and nursed all over WDW. On the buses, tons of rides, wherever. No one said a word, and I didn't notice any uncomfortable looks from anyone but my sister........

I am still nursing my 22mo old but in the past few months, she only nurses at naptime and bedtime. Since we plan on going back to the hotel for naps, I don't expect to nurse in the parks (although I would if needed.) HOWEVER, I love the people mover idea! I would have never thought of that.

Overall there is soooo much to see at Disney that no one seems to care who nurses where and when. If people need to stop their fun to give me a funny look for nursing I would just say with a big smile on my face:

"Guess my milk is more magical than Disney!"

just got back from a trip and my 10 month old nurses about every 4 hours so i got to try out lots of different spots! I used MK, EP, and HS baby care centers and they were all clean, comfortable and nice and cold!
I would say that overall nursing is not bothersome to people in DW. If anyone gave me a second glance, I sure didnt notice it. I do use a nursing cover so there werent any peep shows going on, but still, no stares or bad looks.
I even had to nurse standing up outside the rose and crown because it was time and our table was going to be called and it just had to be done! But no one seemed to mind! I nursed in the lobby of Via Napoli (it was raining out, or i probably would have stepped outside), and on a bench in the America pavilion in Epcot. The only negative encounter I had was surprisingly with a CM who didn't seem to be a nursing fan and who very sharply "reminded" me that there are baby centers in the park. Well, this was at the nemo and friends aquarium and the center is over in mexico and i just didnt see making that long trip when i was perfectly covered and tucked away in a corner. Oh well, other than that, everyone seemed perfectly at ease and cool with it. A very positive experience for me! I now know that you can survive easily in DW with a nursing child!

I love to nurse upstairs at the Living Seas and watch all the fish go by - it's nice and air conditioned!!! In my experience, if CMs see you with an infant at all they will ask if you know about the Baby Care Centers, so try not to take it personally.

thanks for bumping this thread up! I knew it was out there, and I hadn't had the time to search for it! I'll be taking a 7 month old in September, so I'm needing the list of nice, COOL, places to nurse.

I'm a HUGE advocate of breastfeeding, but prefer to have some privacy for my own sake. I really don't care what others think when it comes to NIP. Glad to know that WDW is pretty easy to navigate & nurse at the same time!

Disneyland girl here but we nursed there with no problems or sideways glances and I was nursing a baby who had just turned one My biggest tip is to just to wear a tank top under whatever shirt you are wearing, then pull the top shirt up and the bottom shirt down. No one can see anything.

1st off LOVE THIS TOPIC!!! I'll be nursing my 6 month old in dis this fall so I'm devouring these posts!

So funny, growing up one of 9 kids and my hubby on of 8 kids-Breastfeeding is as normal as brushing your teeth. It wouldn't even dawn on me to be uncomfortable about it in public. No different than if someone blew their nose, or cleared their throat in my presence!

I was in a small local theme park yesterday with my baby and I got stared at, pointed at, and laughed at by a dad, mom and about 12 yr old daughter, sadly it was the DAD who noticed me and pointed it out to his family. I couldn't help but think what a poor example to set for his impressionable young daughter! Didn't phase me though-his behavior was the shocking one, not mine! And shortly after that a lady walked by and smiled at me and said-good for you. Sweet.

Whenever there's family around, or younger girls/teens if I'm nursing and they come over to peek I make a point of explaining what I'm doing as if its the greatest most natural thing in the world (which it is) and don't 'rush' to cover up as though this is an embarrasment. It should be a normal typical thing.

In open public places I use my bebe au lait and I love it. As far as covers its the best one I've used. I'm going to try the sling method though. Problem is I'm very large breasted-I even get uncomfortable in the sling. I never could master hands free nursing with my daughter, they just fall out of her mouth bc of the weight.

I also have a Bebe Au Lait/Hooter Hider. I used to use it 100% of the time I was in public, but now I have gotten good at being discreet on the right side (for some reason DS will still always pull at my shirt on the left!), so I don't always worry about it. I love my sling, but I have never ever been able to nurse "hands-free" in it!

Anyone used the serena and lily sling? I haven't, but I'm interested-seems like it would be easy to nurse in.
Also wondering if anyone's tried the Balboa baby/dr. sears sling? I saw it at the store and it said its designed for nursing while 'slinging'.
I love my new carrier-my baby k'tan. But I tried to nurse in it today. I just couldn't get it. I was in a coffee shop, trying the first time so maybe I'll try again at home when I'm more relaxed. I got really frustrated. Finally took the k'tan off, sat down and covered myself with a thin blanket which was fine.

Checked out the ergo-it looks awsome! Anyone nursed in that before?? Can't see how that would work...

How fun that this is here! Just thought I'd post. My daughter is 16 months and will be 27 months when we go, but I'm sure she'll still be nursing. My boys weaned after 2--one at 27 months, one at 31 months, but I was pregnant both times and gradually encouraging them to be done. My daughter is my last child and I plan to let her self wean completely and she still nurses a TON. Not sure if she'll want to NIP while we're there, but I wanted to join in anyway!

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to cover with a 10 month old? I used a bebe au lait today with DS (also 10 mos), and he would not have it. Is your DS just used to it?

I nursed a 13 mo and a 18 mo at Disney without any problems. My 18 mo wasn't nursing too often, so we usually made it to the baby centers to have some peace and quiet. I'll be there in the fall and will be nursing my 13 mo DS (assuming he's still nursing).

I remember when my dd weaned herself. She was just too busy. She was my last one and I knew there would be no more babies nursing. She had been getting harder and harder to nurse. I had started taking her upstairs to her room because she was just so busy and wanted to see everything. Then one day, she just wasn't interested. She wanted to look at everything else and do everything else. I knew that was the end of it. She was almost 10 months old.

I sat there and cried!

Now my boys are still interested in breasts but at 11 and almost 14, not in the same way at all!!!

I always nursed in public and never had any problems. I never had anyone say anything and if they gave me funny looks, I never noticed. I would have loved for someone to say something, I would have given them a big earful. I believe you should be discreet if you can because it does make some people uncomfortable but that doesn't mean we should have to hide in a bathroom. There is a difference between a bit of discretion and respect for others and not being able to feed your baby.

DD is almost 8 now and it still makes me sad to know I will never nurse another baby. I loved my children as infants and toddlers. I do love them now too but to be honest, I found them easier to deal with as babies than the ages they are now.

To all you mom's out there, enjoy this time and cherish it. Once its gone, its gone. You will still have lots of wonderful (and some not so wonderful, like sore, cracked, bitten nipples) memories.

DD is almost 8 now and it still makes me sad to know I will never nurse another baby. I loved my children as infants and toddlers. I do love them now too but to be honest, I found them easier to deal with as babies than the ages they are now.

I have an 8 yo and I totally agree. I was just thinking today how easy babies are compared to school age kids.

I have 8 and 6 year old girls and just had a boy in May. We thought we were done but decided for just one more I'm so happy to get to enjoy the breastfeeding and baby stage again! Now that we're through those crazy first weeks I'm really enjoying the snuggly breastfeeding with my little guy. The best part of our age spread too is that the girls are wonderful helpers. We will be going to WDW in 3 weeks and I'll get to do the breastfeeding around the world again! Yay!

I nursed my DD to 30 months, although she didn't nurse out of the house very much after 18 months, and DS is almost 12 months. They both are just used to the cover. If ever they would pull it off, I would just stop nursing, so they learned if they wanted their milk, leave the cover alone!

My dd would never stay covered while I was nursing her, even as not much more than a newborn, she somehow always managed to pull that blanket off. Good thing I am "small" so it wasn't so hard to cover myself while I was nursing her with just my shirt covering us. I figured if someone caught a glimpse of skin and nipple in the few seconds it took her to latch on, then they really needed to mind their own business and quit staring. There was no way that child was staying covered up!

Was it you or someone else that had posted pics of nursing in a sling/wrap earlier in this thread? Sorry-I think I read about 40 of all these 50 pages and I can't find the pics anymore!
Anybody able to master nursing in a sling?? And which one do you like best for that?

My bub doesn't seem to like my baby k'tan
