Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread Part II

Hi guys! I read a whole bunch of this thread but now my head is spinning!! I need some good solid advice from you guys who are the cake experts!

We leave for WDW on Sept. 18 and will check in on the 19th. We are going for free dining w/ deluxe upgrade. We have sit down meals planned out almost every meal! YIKES! We are celebrating my ds's 4th b'day which is a week or so after our trip. So...my question is when should I do his cake, which restaurant, and where should I get the cake??? I noted in ALL of our ressie's that it is ds's b'day week so I'm sure we'll get a cupcake or something at most meals but I want one really special b'day cake for him too.

DS worships Buzz Lightyear! He likes chocolate alot! We have ressies at all of the following for lunch or dinner:
Hoop Dee Doo Review
Coral Reef (reserved the diver/menus and will celebrate dh's late Oct. b'day this night as well)
Liberty Tree
Crystal palace
Cind. Royal Table
Garden Grill
Teppen Edo
1900 Park Faire
Tonys Town Sq.
Sci Fi
Mama Melrose
Ohana (hope to see Fireworks...have great time ressie for this)
Chef Mickey's (b'fast though)

So what would you guys do??? Please give me your best advice! I am really needing some help in this area! Thanks so much for any advice that is given!

Since you asked........ With all the desserts you'll get with Deluxe Dining, I'd save the cake for the day of his birthday at home. That way you get lots of goodies @ WDW & get to acknowledge his actual birthday. Plus, he gets an extra week to celebrate.

I agree with the post before mine about saving the cake for home if you're on the deluxe dining plan. If you're set on a cake at Disney (like me!!), I'd say if you're celebrating both birthdays at Coral Reef, that seems like the time to do the cake and have it for both of them. CM's does a cute Mickey head cake if that's something you're looking for.

As for the Buzz decoration, I don't think they can use Pixar characters to decorate cakes-not sure if he falls into this catagorey or not. If he does, stop at a local bakery or the party section of your store or Ebay to find something cute to stick on the cake before or after it arrives at your table.

I've been working with Theresa for our cake at CR and she's wonderful! I'll post pictures as soon as we get back too. We're having a white cake (as I can't stand chocolate-I know...I know...scary) but I'm sure if you like chocolate, it's good Sounds like we'll be there about the same times so I don't know that it'll help you too much.

Due to shuffling around to a difference resort, I have now changed my 10th anniversary dinner to the California Grille at the Contemporary. Has anyone had any experience with ordering a celebration cake there?? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Also, when I called the cake hotline and followed the prompts, it only gave me Boatwrights Restaurant at Riverside as a choice. How do I contact someone about delivery at French Quarter? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

To have a cake delivered to the room, you need to talk to Private Dining (i.e. room service, to whatever extent it's available at POFQ). Call the resort's main number and ask to be transferred.

After speaking with the bakery, do they let you send a picture of what you have in mind?

I want to re-create our wedding cake as a surprise for our anniversary dinner. It wasn't a traditional tiered wedding cake, but rather looked like 3 stacked gift boxes. I want to see if they will do a very mini version, basically with each box being a personal sized cake. I just want the effect for DH.

I'm looking for something different for my parents..... I have the min castle cake for them at 1900 park fare.... I'm going to try and get the slipper desert for them at CRT.... But i was trying to think of something different other than just a cake to send to the room. They will be staying at the Poly. Any ideas????

Try and call the location where you'd like this to take place and see what they can do. It sounds like a lot of work for a very tiny cake. From what I've read, they "require" you to get a certain size or spend a certain amount before they'll start any personalizations (I had to order an 8" cake to get a picture on it when I certainly don't need one that large). Each bakery is very different in what it can and cannot do. Good luck!

I would call the Poly and see what they can do for in room dining. If you're looking for something non-food related, I would call the Poly and ask what they can do or try a place like Disney Florist or Memories by Betsy (I've used her and she's wonderful!!) or Peggy's Sweets and More (I think that's the right name!). The last two are DIS'ers and will do a wonderful job I'm sure.

I have used the Disney Florist a few times to create baskets and such! They will pretty much do anything you want if they have it. www.disneyflorist.com or call them if you dont see something you want. I normally go with Disney Florist because they are authorized to use WDW items. HOwever, I have used Gifts of a Lifetime before. I did a scavenger hunt in the park for my mother and they did a great job. www.giftsofalifetime.com

I just ordered a cake from MK bakery (CRT dinner).

My options were 6" with Mickey image but no inscription or happy b-day inscription (no image) for $21

8" floral or confetti decorations with inscription for $32

Mickey head for $48

10" floral or confetti w/ inscription for $45

To add an image, it would have been $30 more and I had to order a 10" cake (she thought it would be >$90 - didn't go there - LOL!).

I only had van/van or choc/choc offered to me. Tax and gratuity are extra. They put it under our ressie number.

We are honeymooning at the GF and I want to get a small two tier wedding cake sent to our room as a little gift for my DF. I also wanted to get a cake especially made for my soon to be step daughters who are 18 and 20. Something to celebrate us being a family now. They are staying at the ASM resort. Any ideas?

Has anyone gotten a cake from the Wilderness lodge bakery. I need a cake for my husbands birthday and that is where it has to come from since we are staying at the FW cabins. They said I could have it delivered to Trails End and I could pick it up there. They are $45 for the 10inch which are the only ones they will personalize. I just wanted to see if anyone has had one from there and if they thought it was worth the money. Do they taste good?

This is the post from someone who got a cake from the Wilderness Lodge.

This is what we ordered for my FIL last October -

It was an 8" or 10" marble cake that four adults and two children were eating. We barely put a dent in it and were able to eat on it for a few days but I don't think it would be big enough for 20 people. If you are staying off-site I'd definately look into having a Publix cake. They do really great cakes and you can go to their website you can see all of their available decorated cakes and I believe you can order online or at least print out an order form.

The cake posted above was one that I ordered for my FIL's birthday last October at WCC. It was incredibly good and I thought well worth the price. I was hoping for some camping-type themed cake but was pleased with the overall appearance regardless. We had four adults and two small children eating on it and we still had half a cake to take home. We ate on that thing for more than a few day.

It has been reported that some have gotten it in dark chocolate but that was only at CRT and they didn't even order it that way. It was a surprise.

The mini-wedding cake with the white chocolate castle on top is only available at GF and it is an individual cake meant for one person. It is really a cake.

The flavors are:

chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse
yellow cake with white chocolate mousse
cheesecake

Actually, its pretty simple. A few polka dots on one cake, stripes on another... It may be more then I need to get involved with on vacation though!! I'm thinking a nice sample of all the different desserts will be sufficient to make us happy. Thanks for your thoughts!
