Has anybody had chocolate cake with amaretto mousse filling? Was it a good combo?

I have had almond cake with amaretto filling, and it was yummy. I'm just not sure if it would go good with chocolate.

Thanks for the help!:) I will call private dining to order the cake. I'll let you know how it turns out.

To get my cake at the BC, I called the general cake hotline and then followed the prompts to get to the BC. Call 407-827-2253 then press 6, then press 3(this is the prompt for the YC/BC restaurants but it will take you to the YC/BC private dining). I hope this helps!

I just want to say :thanks: to Tink901 as she was the one who helped me get in touch with someone at the BC. I had tried numerous times and was about to give up and just get a basic 6" cake when she PM'd me and helped me out. Thank you! I really do appreciate it!

Your welcome!! :thumbsup2 I'm glad I could help!!!

I go to WDW too often and watch cast members not know the correct answer and just tell the guest what they "think" is the right answer. It's sad when that happens so I try to help when I can.

I'm so glad you were able to get through and get your cake!!!! :woohoo:

We can continue to have this argument until the cows come home. I know you are wrong about the *general* celebration cakes and you don't agree with me. Why on earth would the pastry chefs at BC just churn out cake after cake that are all similar? The cakes are, generally, made by a production bakery.

Oh, and guess what? Both the BW Bakery and private dining at BC told me this. I am not talking out of my rear end.

I am not saying that someone might not be able to arrange a special cake, a wedding cake or whatever, but your typical chocolate/chocolate and vanilla/vanilla with standard decoration comes from BW Bakery.

I try not to answer too many questions here, especially on this subject, anymore because of the rampant misinformation provided. The PP proved my point in my mind when the operator didn't know anything about the bakery and that is the only reason I spoke up. This poster always pops up to make sure everyone thinks I am wrong but whatever her purported inside info, I don't think it is true. Believe what you want though.

Happy cake eating, everyone!

Sorry for the delay in replying! Missed this post!
If you call to order a cake, they ask you where you will be staying at etc....resorts...maybe someone else would know abt a cake at Chef Mickeys other than the standard 12.50 one...
Well this was a larger cake, it fed 9 people on "cake day" (inc 2 teens and 2 kids) and we did it on Monday so we had leftover cake the rest of the week, and we even sent cake home with 2 of our guests! With tax etc, and the $10 charge for the Star Wars image it was $69
Try calling your resort and see what they say! Good Luck!
Thanks for the response! I think I will try to place a call this weekend and see what they say.
I'm still waffling on what to do.... But I think I've narrowed it down to getting a cake at Chef Mickey's on his Bday or waiting until the next day at WCC (we are staying at WL so we could run the extra up to the room).
Well, I'll let you all know when I finally make up my mind and what they say. :rotfl:

Tink901,
A bit OT, but I thought I'd let you know that "your chef" was in the Florida Travel + Life magazine, if you haven't already seen it. I think it was last month's issue.

Not trying to add gas to a fire...

But last year on our wedding anniversary, we ate at Cape May (our fav), which is at the Beach Club. I was under the impression at that time because of what Private dining at the BC told me, that is, if I wanted a custom 6 inch cake I would have to order it from the Boardwalk Bakery. I thought that was strange. I had been told before this that the BC had their own bakers and did their own cakes.

So I called the BW bakery and they put their head baker on the phone with me. She took my order of exactly what I wanted. She then told me she was going to call her baker friend at the Beach Club and give him the order, as they did their own cakes. But because of the hassle I had already been through with private dining, she would take care of it herself.

She did indeed and it was exactly as I had ordered. And by the way, when it was brought to our table, the chef from Cape May came out to congradulate us, and told us that the cake had indeed come from the Beach Club in house bakery.

So yes, the Beach Club can and does their own cakes of any kind, when requested. By the way, in case anyone is wondering, here is what we ordered.

It was a 6 inch vanilla cake with white choclate mouse and fresh raspberries in between, with buttercreme icing and decorated with beautiful pink roses done in butter creme. And best of all, it was only $12.50.

Blessings,
Winnie

THANK YOU!!! I've been asking him what magazine - I need to go find it.

Sounds fabulous!

So does this mean you can order a customized 6-inch cake? I thought that it had to be 8 inches or larger to get custom filling, decorations, etc. (i.e., not just choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla).... :confused3

I know, that was the rule. But when I talked to the head baker at the BW Bakery, I told her it was for just my hubby and I. And that anything bigger than a 6 inch would be such a waste. Even with a 6 inch I knew we'd have some left over. But I also knew we had a few days left of our trip and would be able to finish it. SO she said ok. It was fine with her. And aparantley it was fine with the baker at BC as well.

It was perfect.
Blessings,
Winnie

THANK YOU!!! I've been asking him what magazine - I need to go find it.

I went out to get the magazine & it's the August 2008 issue. That's kind of strange, since I've had it a couple weeks already. He's on page 96. At least, I think that's him. It looks like the guy in your signature. ;) I hope you can find it. I'd send you mine, but it's all bent up from being tossed around in the van. If you want it anyway, let me know. I'll send it your way. :)

We will be in WDW beginning of August and will be celebrating 3 Birthdays all within a week and will be doing one Big Birthday Dinner at the Whispering Canyon Rest. at the WL. We are considering ordering a Birthday cake for us to enjoy after our meal. Has anyone here on the DisBoards ever ordered one of the cakes, and how did it taste. We did this at another resort and the cake wasn't very good at all. Plus, what price are we looking at for a cake which will feed about 10 people.

Thanks for any information you can give me.

This is exactly the sort of thing I would like-just a 6 inch cake because it will be me, DH and our 1 year old DS. An 8 inch cake will go to complete waste. I'm glad to hear the accomadated you, I hope they will for me as well when I ask. Your cake sounded sooooo good. :)

They have a free cupcake and they decorate the table, that is it for the free special items. Gotta make and purchase your own magic, I'm afraid!

And I was told today- by two different CMs- that they don't do this anymore. When I pushed the issue a bit, they said they just can't guarantee it.
One suggested that I bring my own confetti and decorations.

We are going to be celebrating dd's first birthday. Just thinking about it makes me tear up.. she was so sick when she was born and spent a while in the NICU. We feel so blessed that she is now healthy & I really want to celebrate it in a special way (of course the trip itself is a celebration, but I want to give her a rockin' first birthday cake!). Not sure what to do, though. We have ADRs for Crystal Palace, CRT, 1900, and Mickey's.

I think her bday will be great just being able to see pooh and being at Disney

You can also get a cupcake at many resorts if you want to see your DD have a bday cupcake.

Keep the pictures coming!

Thanks!! I found it in Barnes and Noble since you told me which to look for - it is him. I appreciate you letting me know and offering to send it!!!!

THANKS AGAIN!!

Oohh.. good idea. Does the Bakery on Main Street sell cupcakes?
(edited to add: I checked All Ears and it says they may have them.. wonder what the odds are? I've never been in the Bakery before.)

I might just go ahead and order a cake. I just know a lot of it will get thrown out :(
