OOOHHH, this cake is great! I have been reading through this and the old thread. Debating whether to order a cake for my DS8's Bday in Aug. This picture has pretty much made up my mind to do it!

Can I ask? How much did it cost? How many did it feed? And if we are at WL or Cont., is there any way to get it there? I'm not sure what to do. I called Chef Mickey's (his Bday choice) and all they offered me was the standard cake or a personalized cake :confused3 Maybe I would have better luck if I called WL?

TIA for any help or input! I need it

Don't know what tado.......lol

I'm feeling very wishy washy. I LOVE that castle cake and the only way I can get it is to have it after b'fast at 1900. Do I want cake with all that yummy b'fast stuff???? Noooooo.....even though I have a late (10:30ish) b'fast planned. Then I would have to take it back to WL.

Okay so I want to get DH the white choc Mickey/Minnie with the strawberries as a really neat surprise! I finally have a job (yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so this is a treat from ME to HIM! Do I really need to do both? No but we will be there for 9 days. But I really really want that cake! lol I wish I could get it the day we leave and just take it on the plane with us but I know that isn't allowed. *sigh* What tado???????? :rolleyes1

Thanks for the suggestion. Did you order the Mickey cupcakes or did the restruant just "provide" those? Just want to be sure-if I need to order them, I need to get on that. If not, I need to order a cake-I don't want to be caught with nothing for him. Also, we probably wouldn't normally get dessert at the restraunt, we'd just pick up a snack later in the park. For his cake, I'd probably just get something small sent to our room.

On another thought, can you order just cupcakes instead of a cake? Also if you have your cake sent to the room, do they provide like something to serve it with, forks and plates or would I need to provide those things? Want to be prepared if we're going to get cake.

TIA!!

We were on the dining plan and I only noted ds' birthday on our character meals... so I'm not sure what the other TS restaurants would have done for him otherwise.

Ds received the same cupcake at each of our character meals (Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare(D), Hollywood & Vine(L), and Crystal Palace(D). It was chocolate with some icing on top (sort of swirled a bit) and it had a flat chocolate Mickey head stuck on top along w/ a candle. We sang Happy Birthday all four times! Ds wasn't interested in the piece of chocolate so dd claimed it fairly quickly each time! ;)

All the character meals were buffets so desserts were available if we were interested or not. We aren't huge cake people so this worked out best for us.

I'm planning on ordering the Mini Castle Cake for dd at 1900 Park Fare (D) in a couple of weeks and I'm wavering if I should order the slipper dessert for after our breakfast at CRT on her birthday. Decisions... Decisions!

Can't help you w/ cakes in the room.... we have never opted for this. We did eat a few things that needed utensils last trip... I just got some from the food court (POR).

HTH

We've ordered cakes in room at the BC and the Poly and both times they provided a nice set up with plates, cloth napkins, knife and forks. When the cake was a birthday cake, they even provided candles and a pack of matches.

We washed and re-used the plates and silverware while we had the cake. HTH.

Thanks so much for all for suggestions and tips. I've made it through the "new" thread and was about 1/4 of the way through the "old" thread before my internet window closed. Now I've got to figure out where I was so I can finish! :)

I did email AKL club level staff to see what my options were about "in room" cakes. Here's what I got back:

Unfortunately I do not have a picture to show you but our bakery here
does offer a Mickey Head cake for $48.00 plus tax and gratuity.

You might also want to check out this web site as she is local and does
great cakes:

http://www.mariescakes.zoomshare.com/1.shtml/Cakes

From the pictures on that site he reccomended, I wouldn't order anything! I could take pictures of three cakes but that wouldn't be a testament to what I could do. Does give me lots of confidence. The Mickey Head Cake (I'm guessing like the ones in previous pictures) is cute but I'm thinking it's more cake than we'll really need on our trip....we will be driving and I'll pack some tupperware to bring leftover home with us but I'm a bit disappointed.

Ok I guess I just need to start calling this week and see what my options are. I'll be sure to post back whatever I find out in case it will help anyone else. If we do decide to go forward with getting special treats, I'll be sure to post pictures when we get back. I would just feel safer ordering something since DS3 is allergic to peanuts knowing that I've already asked and it's safe. I'd hate for someplace to do something nice (like giving him a dessert) and having to take it away because it's got peanuts or something.

Thanks again for an awesome thread!

Okay I just called and requested a Mini Castle Cake for dd during our dinner at 1900 Park Fare and a slipper dessert for her the morning of her birthday after our breakfast at CRT.

My call to the Grand Floridian was less than magical.

The person who answered the phone asked where we were dining, how many people and what time we were dining. She didn't ask for our reservation # nor did she confirm it with me...which I thought was odd.

Then she started to explain that "the" cake was 8" and for x number of people. I replied that I wasn't interested in the 8" cake but the Mini Castle Cake. She said, "Oh, hold on a minute." Then she put me on hold for about a minute or so.

When she returned she asked what flavor of cake we wanted and then took my credit card number as a "hold."

Then she said we were all set and was ready to hang up on me!

I asked her to wait a moment...then said that I would like to have Happy Birthday Bethany added to it. She explained to me that they couldn't fit that on the cake because it was small.

I told her that I understood that, but would like the writing to be on the plate. She replied that they couldn't "guarantee" that they would do the writing, but that she would make a note of it on the reservation.

Then I asked if she could take a request for CRT (no) or could she transfer me to someone who could (no).

So I hung up and called the cake hotline back, connecting through to MK... this CM was exactly as I expected!

She asked me my reservation number, confirmed the time and number of guests and then asked what we were looking to have at our meal.

The CM then said...I see that one guest will be celebrating their 8th birthday. I told her that it was incorrect, that dd was celebrating her 7th birthday...and she fixed the note.

I ordered our slipper dessert and she asked if we wanted Happy Birthday Bethany written on the plate.

They did NOT take my credit card number.

I shared w/ this CM my experience calling over to GF and she said that SHE wouldn't feel comfortable w/ the fact they they never confirmed my reservation number and suggested that I call back and confirm that all the information is correct and noted on the reservation.

Just wanted to share what happened when I called.

I'm going to call and confirm later on today...hoping that the person I spoke w/ isn't working then!

Its been awhile since we had our cake - at 1900 (4years) and I gave up and decided to check out, when the waitress said we had a cake!! I thought it was just not there, and I had asked when we got there - and was told they'd check - I figured the answer was no!! We brought that cake back with us to the hotel - it was delicious..

now 2 years ago when we ate at 1900 - I noticed a table with several cakes and personalized slipper desserts!! I figure they had a new system out!!

BUT - that was before they redesigned 1900 - we arent going until October, but I will order a slipper dessert and a cake for dd 12th birthday!!

and she did get cupcakes at other restaurants, and enjoyed them - I brought ziplock bags with me, if she didnt eat it right away, we'd save it and enjoy it later!

Asking my question again...........
Do they still only have Zebra cakes at AKL or do they have a variety now? Also if I wanna have it delivered to my room after we check in do I call the cake hotline or the resort to order?

Hi! I cannot be of help with the zebra cake but since your question has not been answered, maybe you can call the cake hotline and inquire or call the AKL restaurants...just a suggestion.

I agree. Athough this thread and the people here on it are a wealth of friendly infomation on various cakes at various locations, we just don't know all the answers to all of the questions.

If no one can answer your question, just give the cake hotline a call and get your answer from the horse's mouth. :thumbsup2

Larger font - it comes across as yelling, to be honest - won't get you the answer if no one knows it. I'd suggest you pick up the phone.

newtodis: Ask the club people to get in touch with Chef TJ for you. He is in charge at boma and will find out what can be done for you. You can also ask them for his email/phone number.

We got our white chocolate Minnie Mouse topper cake last night and it was the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. The Minnie topper was painted so it looked exactly like a real statuette of Minnie Mouse with her red polka-dotted dress and red bow on her head. You couldn't even tell it was made from chocolate, it looked like a figurine. They had "Happy Birthday Kimberly" in white chocolate(not painted)written in red on the cake as well as 3 red roses. I couldn't have asked for a better cake. We are still at Disney and I don't have my cable to connect my camera to the computer so I will post a picture when I get home tomorrow night. Thanks Disboards for giving me the info about even doing a custom cake!

:goodvibes
We'll be staying at WL in just under two weeks. We're celebrating DGpa's 65th birthday as well as DS7 bday. I'm thinking a cars cake or pirate mickey for DS and a Dumbo cake for DGpa. We have ADR's at GG and CRT, but I selfishly would rather enjoy the desserts they provide with the meal and have the cakes delivered to our room at WL.

??Just wondering other opinions on this & others' experiences with having cakes delivered to rooms. I was hoping it would be delivered while we're out as a surprise for when we return.

and

??has anyone every ordered a Dumbo cake?

Thanks so much!:dance3:

Just to let you guys know my experience last week. I called in advance and talked to a chef at the Boardwalk Bakery, told them I wanted the mini castle cake for my anniversary and I wasn going to pick it up at the Boardwalk Bakery on wednesday. The chef took my order, asked for a credit card but told me he wasn't going to charge it until I picked the cake up. Went last wednesday and picked the cake up. It was not the mini castle cake. It was a 6 inch with a chocolate castle on it. It did say "Happy Anniversary Cheri & Dennis", but the cake was not very good. When I went to pay, the cashier said it had already been charged. Looked at the receipt and they had put the charge through on tuesday, a day earlier. I was not happy about that. So just be careful of when you give out your card. I was sooo looking forward to my mini castle cake and we only had 1 piece and then threw the rest away.

Im not typing in big font to yell. Im typing in big font to get my question answered because it keeps getting skipped. I HIGHLY doubt that no one knows the answer for the fact that people have gotten their cakes delivered to their rooms before.

All I mainly want to know is in order to get a cake delivered to our room after checkin but order it before we get to Disney do we have to call the cake hotline or the resort itself. Im sure SOMEONE has to know this answer because I've seen cake pics on here where the cake has been delivered to the room. It would work the same way for all resorts.

Folks here are very nice and helpful as can be...if anyone knew the answer to your question they would have answered it. You've had some good suggestions with a number posted to call - perhaps if you tried that you would have your answer and could share it here for others who might wonder the same:)

Good luck!! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the tip! I'll certainly give that a try.

I emailed AKL last night and was originally told that the only cake they had was the Mickey head cake. When I specifically asked about the zebra cake, he said they do have it, it's 6" and couldn't be customized.

As for having cake delivered to your room, I know that it's different for each resort. When I called earlier today to ASSp (for our Sept trip), I was told that wasn't an option by the resort staff as they don't have a bakery there to deliver it from. As for AKL (our Dec stay), they do have a bakery in the Lodge, which gives me the option of having something delivered to our room. Maybe I wasn't asking the right questions when I called or wasn't persistant enough (probably because it's what I expected to be honest) so I didn't really question what they were telling me too much.

As for my cake orders, I am going to try and call Boardwalk Bakery and Magic Kingdom Bakery to see if I can get some special treats during our trips. I'm hoping for the Cars cake during Sept in our room for DS3 (as Cars was his theme last year and is again this year!). I haven't decided what we're doing about December since DS1 won't much care about a cake but don't want him to feel left out (I also think DS3 will remember since it's so close that it was his party at Disney and he got a cake)-plus it's my birthday while we're there in December! :)

Good luck to everyone trying to order cakes!!!

My question a couple pages back wasn't answered and I figured no one was able to answer it, not that it was being ignored or skipped. :confused3 There is a saying "Perception is reality" and I stick by what I said in my earlier post.

To me, the main focus of your questions were about the zebra cakes and other varieties available at AKL. It is quite possible that no one reading this portion of the thread has had recent experience.

As far as who to call to get an in room cake, either option will work. Disney would like you to use the cake hotline, but many circumvent that by calling private dining at the deluxe resort where they are staying.

I hope you get your questions answered to your satisfaction one way or another.

The general rule - every once in awhile there is an exception- seems to be that deluxes offer in room delivery. What is odd is that when the cake hotline first started, a number of people reported being able to get cakes delivered to values and mods ... but Disney seems to have soured on that idea during this year just as they are now discouraging customization. Maybe the delivery proved too difficult and expensive. It's really a bummer for those guests staying at values and mods.

In any case, you are not the first person to report this so I doubt it had anything to do with how you asked. :-)
