****OFFICIAL August, 2012 (PART 2)****

Hey everyone!

I booked a solo trip for August 24th through August 28th. It's also my first trip to Disney World in over 15 years. (Last time I was there, was when I was 9).

I'm hoping to see and do a lot, but most of all I'm looking to have a good time. I decided to do the trip as both a birthday gift to myself, as well as a present to myself for getting into Nursing school. Think those are good excuses to use, but overall I just want to live the magic again.

Hope everyone has a fun and safe trip when they go themselves!

Congrats on your trip AND for getting into nursing school. You have a tough road ahead of you but with hard work and determination you will do great! No matter what they teach you in nursing school please remember one thing. As nurses we are treating human beings, not just bodies. So many people who are in the medical profession forget this and it's soooooooo important! :::getting off my soap box now:

Have a great time on your trip!

The minute you step foot on Disney property you will know you made the right decision. I always tend to second guess myself when making big decisions such as vacation plans. My annual trip to Disney has become my therapy and is more than worth the price paid. I spend months getting excited and meeting wonderful people, like the ones on this thread. When I get back I have amazing memories that will last forever! So to me it's an investment into my mental health ;)

Get that excitement back, you're going to Disneyworld!!!

So true!! I was down in the dumps early in the week over some things going on in our house too. I told DH maybe we should cancel our trip and he said no that we were going on vacation we would work the other stuff out a little at a time. So I laid around my 2 days off worrying over things I had no control over and could kick myself in the pants for not getting my stuff ready for Disney. So I am a couple of days behind but the fever is back so I am sure I will catch up. Sometimes we just let to much get to us whether it is good or bad stress it still gets to us.

It is officially August 4th and I am up watching the Olympics, so I will post a QOTD!

QOTD: What snack(s) are you most looking forward to in Disney??

I am going to try some cupcakes... mainly want the Butterfinger cupcake in DHS at Starring Rolls...we also love the Turkey legs...AND one night is devoted to snacks/appetizers through the WS! (And drinks!)

The benots at POFQ

I have never had the school bread. I will have to try it this trip. I always go straight to the bakery in france.

I want to see this list too :drinking1

I love the school bread in Norway. It is huge so be prepared to share.

I'm in the single digits and am soo not ready. Still need to do some last minute planning and start to pack! This is soo unlike me!

:banana::cool1::banana::cool1: on the single digits.

My brother and his kids arrived at Disney. He already posted of pick of his kids at MK. We'll be heading there in the AM. Looks like we may be leaving around 4am. Getting the kids to bed early tonight. Car packed except for food and toiletries. :car:

:banana::cool1::cool1:

Question for everyone..
Are you bringing anything to read on vacation? I want something really good for the plane, and maybe for a rainy afternoon in our cabin. I just haven't heard of anything lately that really grabbed my interest.
I think the last books I read and loved were The Game of Thrones books, and I read The Birth House on vacation in the Fall.
I used to read all the time but I don't seem to be able to sit still long enough these days. Hoping to find something good for vacation:)

I'm currently reading Mercy by Jodi Picoult. I have enjoyed all of her books that I have read.

In the emergency room as I type this! :( may be looking at gallbladder surgery before or after disney. :( :(

Sending you healing vibes. Hope you feel bettr.

Does anyone have a basic kindle? Can you do anything on it other than read books? Or do I need the one with wi-fi? DBF is buying me one for Disney! :)

I have a basic kindle and really think it is really only good for reading. I have the one with 3G so I was able to get on facebook last year but it is not a great experience.

I did it guys! I finished my first 5K obstacle course, and boy it was a doozy. We were chased by zombies the majority of the time, had to run up and down hills on a motocross track, go through mazes in darkness, crawl not once, but twice under objects in ankle deep stinky mud, slide down a water slide into 4 feet of disgusting water, and navigate trails through the woods with rocks, holes and rivets in the ground. It was a serious challenge, no matter what your skill level. It was 97 degrees at 2 in the afternoon, which was a record high for here in this area in Washington. Keep in mind, we rarely hit 80. I kept telling my friend Carrie that it was just preparing me for Orlando heat and it was probably good for me. In the pics, I'm on the right in each.

Congrats!!!!

I have a quick minute to post- it's a great second park day. I'm sitting in DHS enjoying a churro right now after a fried chicks dinner at 50s.
Had little rain this afternoon, light, no big deal. It's not nearly as hot as I expected and crowds are manageable for us.

How exciting! I love 50's Prime Time, the pot roast is to die for! Not sure if I could eat a churro after having the Smore though.....dear God, I'm going to be HUGE when I get back

Thanks for checking in!

Lol I'm in the same boat. I cleaned, organized, and folded all of the laundry. Today I started throwing clothes in the suitcases that I knew/didn't care if it got wrinkled lol. The rest of the week, I'll be ironing, cleaning (yes again lol), and packing to make the next 3 days go by super fast (except for Wednesday since its my last day with all of the kiddies that I've had for the past six years. It's gonna be a rough day lol), and then we leave bright and early Thursday morning!!

I try to make sure everything is spotless before we leave for vacations because a.) it makes me feel better that when we get home, all I have to do is laundry. b.) it feels good to come home to a clean house. And c.) when my mom takes care of our cat, she tends to clean while she's here so I try to get it all done to avoid that from happening even though she usually still finds something like wash and iron the curtains while we were on our honeymoon lol

Will your mom watch my cat? I would love for my house to be clean when I get home. I am not much of a house cleaner.

So exciting to see our August peeps checking in!!

I'm pretty sure we've talked about mini golf before don't remember if it was a generic are you gonna/have you played or if we talked about courses.

If you've already been, which would you recommend? Since Fantasia Fairways mentions "a heavier emphasis on skill" and Winter Course says "challenging" I'm thinking one of the other 2 would be a better choice with a 6 year old who's never played mini golf.

Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course

1 - Fantasia Gardens: Inspired by Walt Disney's classic animated movie Fantasia, Fantasia Gardens includes many characters from the film — including hippos that dance and broomsticks that march — in some of the film's most memorable scenes. Several holes include dazzling water effects and some even reward good shots with musical tones.

2 - Fantasia Fairways: Located adjacent to Disney's Fantasia Gardens is the 18–hole Fantasia Fairways course, which resembles a traditional golf course but on a miniature scale. With a heavier emphasis on skill rather than chance, Fantasia Fairways features a dramatic backdrop of Disney's Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror and the grand Walt Disney World Swan Hotel and the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort.

or

Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course

1 - Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course—Winter Course: The Snow Course invites you to participate in 18–holes of challenging fun — which, in addition to Santa and his elves, includes some of your favorite Disney Characters — as you putt your way to the North Hole. Additionally, watch out for Squirty the Snowman: he sprays water when golf balls pass beneath him.

2 - Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course—Summer Course: The Sand Course promises fun in the sun for everyone, compliments of a delightful beach theme with sandcastles, surfboards and ornaments hanging from palm trees. Delightfully themed holes include a sleepy Santa buried beneath a large sand mound and a giant sand castle.

HAHAHA, I am going to me about 40 pounds bigger with all the food I want to eat. I keep telling myself that walking from Epcot to Beaches and Cream will burn the calories for my kitchen sink.:clown::banana:

WOW!!!! I just downloaded the new "My Disney Experience" app on my iPad and boy is it terrific! I wish I had an iPhone so I could use it in the parks. I am praying for it to be released for my Android phone within the next 3 weeks so I can use it. Worse comes to worse, my DD has an iPhone and we will use the app on that. You can even make dining reservations right from the app!

If you have an iPad or an iPhone I would highly recommend taking a look at it.

I would say that Disney is a therapy for me as well. It starts 180 days out. I am down in the dumps until I make that first ADR. I get so happy when the trip gets paid off. Now I am just working out all the spending money. We are going tomorrow to get everyone giftcards so no one has to feel like they are spending too much. If we have money left on the card we will save it for the next trip :thumbsup2

Thanks, I know you are right. It's just a return to reality that I'm not just going with my kids & DH, I'm going with 9 others to coordinate around. But I'm starting to get excited again. I need to play with ADR's to really get excited! :)

It's awesome! I downloaded it the other day and even phoned the in-laws about it, who all think I'm nuts... Ok, I am I, but it IS a cool app!

We've only ever done Winter Summerland, but I like the theme much better overall.. it's really cute. My then 6 year old did just fine. He wasn't very good mind you, but he had fun, we didn't feel rushed and he just whacked the ball around:)

Anyone else watching the vaulting right now? Some of these girls are having a rough night! I'm making my mousekeeping envelopes and watching the Olympics... fun night!!
