Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Thanks PrincessV! I have a friend who is a very serious marathon runner (seriously, light years ahead of me!) and she suggested a local chiropractor also - actually - he practices "active release technology" and she swears by him. I am just waiting to hear if my insurance will cover it and then hoping to get in to see him! I don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier, but I stopped my pure barre classes about 2 months before TOT to focus on running since I was so busy. Horrible decision. I am guessing over that time the strength I had built up slowly faded until I ended with this. I also realized I lost my abs right about then too! Better work on those too before Disney pool time comes around...

Oh I hope you can get in - ART is awesome! My chiro used that plus targeted stretching and massage, and electro stimulation. y inflammation was so bad from trying to push through for so long, it took a long time to get it down and that stuff helped a LOT. Crossing fingers for you!

I'm a former ballerina and will sometimes add some basic barre work into my workouts - from what I've seen Pure Bare is a great all-around strength AND flexibility workout. I bet getting back to it will help, too!

Oh good! Two recommendations for Dr. Zach then! *crosses fingers I can get an appointment

*daydreams about champagne :rotfl:

This may have been asked but I couldn't find anything. Where is the best place to watch for our daughter? We don't need to be in the MK, just somewhere her kids can see her. We are staying at YC, does the course go by there? I am running the 5k for the second year. Can't wait!

Hello! I've been lurking for a while... gobbling up all kinds of good tidbits, so I thought I would jump on in!

I'm participating in GSC, and my kiddos are running the 200 dash on Saturday. We'll be staying at the Contemporary (my children think the Monorail is a ride)
My question is - after the 10K, do I have time to get back to the Contemporary, shower quickly and Monorail back for the kids races? I run a 1 hour 10k, but I know it's going to be slower than that given character stops, etc. I'm just not sure if I should have everyone just meet me at Epcot, or go back to the hotel and everyone come over together. I'm really stressing about this one aspect and could use some advice from you ladies who have been there before!

Thanks so much and I look forward to seeing some of you on the course!

ART combined with PT has been a life saver for me with multiple issues over the years (neck, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, ankles). Most recently my ankles. I see a chiro who has ART and PT in the same clinic and it all works together for a full program. I Hope you can get it covered, if not perhaps try just PT as usually that is covered more often than chiro/ART (or is better coverage) as they can at least help evaluate what the real issue is and a program to help resolve it.

I had a small flare with ITB about a year ago and a combination of massage and foam rolling really really helped. I agree that it isn't one certain thing or weakness that can cause it, getting evaluated for what your own weaknesses are will help isolate the best way to treat it.

I miss my abs. They went away when I had to finally accept I couldn't do pilates any more (neck issues). Oh well.

Lol! I don't know about everything, but by golly - I do know where to find the champagne! ;) I bought it it inside the Race Retreat tent, but I'm 99.9% sure there was a booth selling outside, in the post-race staging area, too. :thumbsup2 It was a lovely way to finish the Triple Crown!

You are correct of course;) my husband had a glass waiting for me upon my finish. Little tip for people. The Princess looking tent, which I think just said champagne, had a huge line. My husband noticed the ESPN booth had the same champagne, and the mimosa option as well, with no line.

The truth is that you never know with the buses: my poor friend waited almost an HOUR in line for a bus back to her resort last year, while my bus waited for ME to finish my champagne to leave, it was so empty! Your safest option by far is to drive - I drove to the 5K and 10K this year and timed it: 10 minutes total from room door to parked at EP, and about 15 from car to room door going back afterward.

I was on the monorail last year, and it worked fabulously. This year I'm BWV for 5k & 10k, but changing to BCV after the 10k so that'll be my hotel for the half. I was thinking I'd drive for the 5k and 10k, but for the half I assume driving is a bad option. Am I right? My plan is to bus there and maybe walk back? With picture stops I don't think I'll finish till 8:30, so by the time I inevitably hit the self massage/ice area, get all my medals and the pics to go with them, meet the family and enjoy some bubbly I think the park will be open.

I honestly believe a lot of walking after the race last year really helped me stay loose. I tend to tighten up quickly otherwise.

Hi!

So I finally finished all 110 pages! Wish I would have found this 6 months ago!

My BFF and I are running the half marathon (first half for both of us!). We've been talking about it for a few years but we're finally both free and able to run this year! We are bringing our moms and daughters too! Our daughters will be 4, 2.5, 1.5, and 7 months! So excited!

My question is about our moms getting to the finish with the girls. I made room reservations before we really knew what we were doing (actually we still have no idea!) at the Beach Club. My thought was that our moms could walk through Epcot to the finish. But I'm realizing it might not be realistic since Epcot doesn't open until 9. But we will be in one of the last corrals since we didn't submit a time, so I'm guessing we will finish near the end. Is it unrealistic that they will be able to walk through Epcot at 9 and get to the finish around when we finish? We would love to have them see us finish but we are also realistic and know they might not even get out of the room with all 4 girls! ;) And even if they are at the finish they may not "see" us finish because of the crowds.

So is an Epcot resort not ideal in this case? Should I try to get rooms on the monorail? We don't care if we have to take a bus to get to the race but we were hoping our moms could just walk or ride the monorail so they didn't have to worry about folding up the strollers to get on a bus. Ahhhh! So much to think about!

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Quick question--If we wanted to go from the Half to Hollywood Studios, will there be a bus to take us from the finish to DHS? What's the best way to get there?

That's our plan for the 10k. For the half Epcot should be open based on your anticipated finish time. If you have park hopper you could walk through Epcot to DHS. Otherwise, take a bus to Boardwalk, Swalphin, Yacht, Beach and walk of boat from there.

That is an EXCELLENT tip and one I will be filing away! Can you use your magic bands or do you need cash?

I think we are planning to walk back to BWV once the park opens. I expect some of us to finish closer to 7:45-8 but others closer to 9 and we'd like to celebrate with everyone together once they cross so will likely hang out and do massage, medal engraving and maybe even a glass of bubbly while we wait. My biggest concern with that is that we have a 10:30 ADR in Norway. It's doable but it may mean some power walking to BWV and back and some super quick shower action! I hate the idea that we may have to boogie before everyone is over so hope that isn't the case.

Where is the medal engraving usually set up at the finish? I would like to get my Princess and TOT done seeing as I didn't have any cash on me at the after party in October. Would my family have access to this to get started on TOT while I run? How much is it? Thanks!!

leholcomb! Good question! This is my first WDW race and first half so I just heard about the engraving and got excited! But I was wondering how long the lines were for this as well as location?

I just read on another thread that it was around $25 cash only. The lines get longer as the morning goes on. I heard they only had one location this morning which makes me think they will only have one for us too.

Hi everyone! I desperately need advice!

This is my first half marathon ever so i am kind of freaking out!

First thing I wanted to know was what time would you get in line for a bus? I am staying at pop!

Second (this may be silly) what time do people go to sleep before the race? I am a night owl (thank you college) so I am always up till at least 2 so I don't even know if ill end up sleeping which I don't think is such a good idea

TIA

The first buses are supposed to start running at 3am, I headed to the bus at 2:50 last year and walked right onto the first bus. I'm an earlybird, but would prefer to not get stuck in traffic and the time passed quickly once we were at the staging area.

I went to bed around 7:30-8. It wasn't the best night sleep, be prepared for that! I woke at 1:40 and couldn't go back to bed, so it gave me plenty of time to get ready! ;)

TIA

also what are wait times like over the weekend?

It's not a busy time at WDW, that's probably partially why they picked this time of year for the PHM. :thumbsup2

Good luck to you! Last year was my first and I was excited and freaked out at the same time! This year, just excited! :dance3:

Hey, I just noticed you're doing a pre-trip report for this year :cheer2: Going to check it out :thumbsup2
