Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

We left the night before the race ADR-free because I'm thinking we'll probably want to just carb up at the food court (we're at ASMu) and turn in early. Mostly I didn't want to try to predict months in advance what I'd want to do, yanno?

In other news, running a 10K tomorrow morning and my leg is bothering me a lot because I neglected to stretch after my last run. I'm sure it will be fine. /optimist

We are eating at the new restaurant at BWV trattoria all forno, lots of good carbs!

We are doing that before the 10k:). I'm excited to try it. Before the half we'll eat in our DVC room. Spaghetti and meatballs. Eat at our leisure depending how we feel after the 10k, then relax and go to bed early!

This will be my first time running the PHM as a Disboards member. I seem to remember running across a post where folks talked about wearing lime green mickey head pins/patches to identify them as Disboards people - are we still doing that for this year's PHM? I think it'd be cool to be able to spot fellow Dis folks along the course, but I couldn't remember if that was an official/unofficial thing or if we're continuing the tradition again...?

I'm also excited to try it as well! I'm frankly always up for an excuse to carbo load!!

Ok, as race time approaches, I'm getting super nervous. This will be my first half EVER and first rD race. I will be running solo and my mom & 2 kids (DD5 & DS8) will be Cheering me on.

So I'm hoping for some Veteran advice please!!! I've read through all 108 pages and see very little about Race Retreat and nothing about CheerSquad. Here are my thoughts based off what I've read but PLEASE feel free to give me any advice you have!! If it was just adults, I probably wouldn't think twice about doing CheerSquad, but since my mom will have my 2 small children, I want to make it as easy as possible for her, and she doesn't know her way around the parks super well. So would you recommend doing CheerSquad for them or is it not necessary?

Will there be transportation from the Resorts directly to the MK, or will she need to go to Epcot and take the monorail over on Sunday?

What time do you think she would need to be in the MK in order to get a decent spot for her and the kids to see me??

Race Retreat - - -Again, first half, first rD race but won't really be able to enjoy after the race, our flights home are at 2 pm so will need to quickly depart and head back to the resort for a quick shower and head to airport, so is the Race Retreat worth it in your opinion??

Kids races, currently both kids are planning to do the kids races on Saturday, the 200m & the 400m, what time do you expect we could plan for Breakfast on Saturday?

Thanks again for your help!! You guys are great and so supportive.

If I have someone who wants to be at the Finish line (Epcot Imagine Parking Lot) for when I finish my races, do they have to purchase ChEar Zone? They just want to be at the finish line, not inside the park at one of the viewpoints.

You do not need chEar ticket. It does get crowded at finish line. but if it is just one spectator then he/she should be able to squeeze in some where.

Question hoping someone could please answer

After the races are over (5K, 10K and half) how efficient are the buses? I am staying at the Yacht club and need to attend business conference at the convention center post race (5K and 10K). What is the quickest/most efficient means of getting back to the Yacht Club post races? Will taxis be available post race? I will also have a rental car (and husband) if that helps. I am guessing after the half marathon I can use my annual pass after 9am to enter Epcot and walk back to the Yacht club.

Thanks in advance!

Just got an ADR for on the 20th at Mama Melrose for our group of 13! I was very surprised and we are super thrilled to have scored it!!!

I can't figure out how to search on my phone, so I apologize if this has already been asked- but is there a group meet up for single walkers/runners for the 5K? I'll be there with my family but will be the only one doing a race and I've just started to become anxious about doing it by myself. TYIA!

I'm running the 5k myself too...maybe we can meet up to say hi!?

All I could think of while I ran my 10K the other day was "oh man, I have to go DOUBLE this in February??" haha this is going to go so great

I'm doing my 10K tomorrow-and I'm already thinking it's only a little more than double

Same questions here!!! Just saw my parents last night and they decided to come watch us run :goodvibes Very excited about that, but now I'm scrambling to try and get them airline and hotel reservations and figure out all the logistics of where they need to be when so that they can see us (myself and my niece running, so their daughter and granddaughter). :faint:

Their two hotel choices are the Wilderness Lodge or the Caribbean Beach. (my sister and niece are staying at Wilderness and I'm at CBR). Does anyone know if the boat would be running from WL to MK early that morning? That would probably be the easiest if it is. If not, how early do they need to be on a bus? Could they go straight to MK or do they need to go to Epcot and hop the monorail?

Thanks for any help!!!!

I have another completely unrelated question. Anyone out there with IT band issues? I'd been feeling great and the running was going well, but ever since my 9 mile run a couple of days ago, my IT band is killing me :worried:

My shoes are probably right on the edge of needing to be replaced (about 6 months old), so I'm going to try that. Any other ideas? I keep hearing about the foam roller, but would love to know if others have had luck with it before I invest in one. Thanks!!

I have both IT band issues and bursitis! I just got the stick and have been rollering my legs daily since Thursday. I figure it is going to take at least a week with how bad mine are. My massage therapist told me to just take a rolling pin to my legs, that's how bad they are!

I'm going to try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge based on past experiences and what was provided in last year's Event Guide:

1) Page 30 of the event guide I linked above has lots of vital information regarding ChEAR squad. It sounds like your mom & children want to cheer you on from inside the MK park, which is considered ChEAR Zone 1, and will need to provide proof of ChEAR Squad purchase in order to obtain access to that area, so yes, you'll need to buy ChEAR zone for them if you want them to cheer you on from there.

2) Regarding your question about whether or not to take the bus or monorail - what resort are you staying at? I don't believe resort transportation buses will be running before 7am (possibly 6am, I'm not 100% sure, so others feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), which you most likely will be past the Zone 1 ChEAR Squad area by then, so yes, I suggest they take the race bus from your resort to Epcot early in the morning (I'd say around 4:30-4:45am) to allow sufficient time to transfer to the monorail to get to the MK. Race bus transportation begins at 3am-5am, and monorail transportation begins at 3am, as well.

3) Race Retreat runs until 10:30am, so if you finish in time to attend, then that is your prerogative, just keep in mind that if you want your family to join you, then they will need to have purchased the platinum level ChEAR Squad package, as well. I personally have never felt the need to purchase access to the Race Retreat, I'm satisfied with the snacks they provied post-race, and the bags of ice they have are given out for free if you need them. Since you have a 2pm flight, and assuming you're staying on property and will be taking DME to the airport, you will need to return to your hotel in time to shower, pack-up, check-out, and get picked up for DME at 11am. So, that's something to keep in mind if you're considering doing the Race Retreat versus simply returning to your room post-race.

I don't have kids, so I've never done the kids races, sorry!
