Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Yep, there are at least 2 water stops in the 5K, maybe more. You also have access to water fountains in EP.

Excellent, thank you! Especially in the heat, I like to be well hydrated.

There's a pic from last yr that shows both the 10k and 5k. It looks like 2 water stops, one near China and one near International Gateway.

Thanks! It's also great to see where the photographers are - I'll have to remember to smile at those points in case I decide to buy the pictures!

Hello all,

I have decided to write a Pre-Trip Report for PHM race weekend! It is my first one so be nice. The link is in my signature! I'm sure things will get interesting so come on over and join the fun!

Today was the first day of official #GSC training. I'll be tweeting my workouts of the day, WOD. Stop on by and say hi.

Ugh, sidelined with hip bursitis and gluteus medius tendonitis. Had a steroid injection into the bursa so hoping it helps, I've hardly done any training in the last week. Depressing! Couldn't do the Atlantic City half yesterday, so that was my race fees down the drain.

Better to lose that than Disney though.....

Good morning everyone!!!! Did a 5k run 2 days ago in my town!:cool1:
But 2 days after i'm still very sore :worried:

I'm wondering how I will get thru doing a 5K on the friday and a 10k on the saturday!!!!!!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Any comments would help!!!!

Did you RACE the 5K? Like, really run hard? I know I usually do at local races because I have a time goal in mind. Don't do that with the GSC! I walked pretty much all of the Princess 5K (and by "walk" I mean leisurely stroll - my avg pace was 21:xx/mile), walked 2/3 of the 10K, and took the half as an easy run/walk. I was tired by the end, and my legs were worn out, but I had very little residual pain.

Key, too, is recovery: eat right, rest tired muscles, gentle stretching/movement to let them recover and get stronger. You can do it!

Delayed muscle soreness is such a pain! (Literally!)...have you tried a foam roller? It hurts when you do it, but it really helps to break up and release the lactic acid that has built up and caused the muscle soreness. I will also usually do a 5-minute ice bath for any run longer than 6 miles- not everyone likes them (sitting in ice water isn't really super fun) but it makes a big difference in recovery time for me! Ice baths also help to remove lactic acid buildup. As for the back-to-back races, I would take it slow for the 5k so that you're not totally wiped out for the 10k. And keep in mind that you still have several months to prepare- you've got this!!

I'm more of a walker, but this sunday I ran a lot more then I use too!!
But we reassure me if you walked 2/3 of the 10k! I can walk but run 2 days in a roll don't think so! I'm over weight and it's sticking to me no matter what!!!!

Thanks for the advice!!!!!!

Yep, there you go! ::yes:: My advice is to train for the Triple Crown as you plan to race it: if you plan to walk the 5K and 10K, do that in your back-to-back training, too. Because walking and running use muscles in different ways - you don't want to train for one way and then do the other on race day. You've got this!

WOW this is the best advice ever! And very wise! Walking and running are not the same at all!!!!!!! THANKS ALOT!!!! :worship::worship:

For me the hardest part of the destination races I do is not doing too much walking before the race day. There are always so many interesting things to see and my time is limited. I've usually got soreness for the first 2-3 miles because of that during my races. After that as long as I don't push too hard till the muscles and joints stop protesting the balance of the race is uneventful. I hope this makes sense.

Hi all! I'm still slacking on my training due to crazy work and grad school, but things look like they'll start to slow down soon - I'm hoping this gives me a little breathing room and the motivation to start training hard again.

Have most of you purchased airfare yet? I was holding out until prices dropped but I'm curious to know from those who have done PHM in the past, when did you purchase?

Happy running everyone!

I purchased a one way ticket down when Southwest first opened up the dates. I'm thinking it was August. A few weeks later I purchased the return trip. I watch Southwest daily to monitor the fares. I've booked and rebooked a few times already. Any cost savings helps.

I purchased my tickets a month ago
I have been watching and I keep seeing the prices rise so I'm a worry wort and booked asap
I'm flying RT with jet blue for 392.00 taxes included right now that flight has gone up to 451.00
That's not to say it will not drop and I'm sure if it does I will kick myself for being a worry wort but oh well
Good luck!!!

I was actually getting ready to say the same thing! Do the race EXACTLY the way you train. Take it easy the days before the race, but don't just sit. Don't try to hit an unrealistic time goal. Just go at a comfortable pace and you will be fine!

Just doing a little catch up...trying VERY HARD to find my running/training mojo again...and of course here comes early dark evenings and colder temps...ugh but a girl has to push through.

Quick update on my injury recovery- at PT this morning, they let me RUN (!!!) for the first time in almost six weeks. They kept it to five minutes and had me go reeeeeeally slow, but it felt so great nonetheless :) Fingers crossed that things keep going smoothly from here on out! Keep up with the training everyone, I know it's a big old pain to get out there when it's dark and cold outside but it is so worth it in the end! :)

That is great news! I tried to remember that on my first day back when 15 minutes wore me out! It is better than nothing!

This will be my first Disney run and first half marathon. I have signed up for GSC with my fiance. Sign of true love that he is doing a princess run with me :-)
Has anybody been to the princess party in Downtown? I am wondering what it is and if we should go there...

A bunch of the businesses have discounts and some have giveaways, and there is an area with a DJ and some of the race merchandise for sale. It was fun, but not necessarily a must-do.
