I have a question for all the interval runners. Are there any "rules" about how to run intervals? I'm finding that I can run 3-4 miles straight, and then if I take a walk break for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile, I can get my "second wind" and start running again. I'm just not sure if that's a good way to go about it. Would I be better off running a mile, walking a mile, and so on? I'm thinking mostly in terms of heart rate changes and/or possible injuries. I haven't researched this much, so thought I'd ask the expert Dis'ers![]()
FrenchSnowWhite: I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure you will be able to complete both the 5K and 10K in memory of your Mom. You can do it!
Thanks Jdd!
This event just took a different meaning for me because my mom just past away suddendly from a heart attack 2 weeks ago
She would have been so proud of me getting to do the 5 & 10K so for her I will try my very best to do both races.
I saw a LOT of Galloway runners at this year's Princess HM - they seemed to be doing great!
My only complaint with Galloway/interval runners at races is when the timer goes off and it's time for them to walk, they stop right then & there, and I nearly run smack dab into their backs! So please, if you choose to do intervals on race day, be mindful of the other runners on the course and make your way to the side before walking.I wish there was an audio cue in the app for that!

I think you just have to really find what works for you. I keep playing with my intervals during just regular everyday runs....right now I am doing a 1 min run/30 sec walk. During races I try to tell myself that I am going to run a certain way and my intervals are never well done in reality because each race has certain challenges and issues because of the course. On longer races like 10K I tend to settle down after the 5K mark and get into a pretty good interval ususally 30/30.
I use my garmin which vibrates for me on intervals. You can also use apps on your phone or the gymboss timer if you dont want to invest in new technology.
When you do your intervals do you keep your eyes on your watch or do you use a something to keep track? Thanks
How often are there Characters? Every couple of miles or so? I wondering if that's a good way to incorporate walk/rest intervals?
Thanks Jdd!

Thanks to everyone with comments on the intervals!!! I'm going to spend some time this summer figuring out what works for me. I think I'll plan for my shorter runs to be all running, and then try out the walk breaks on the longer runs.
I'm just so excited to even be considering this since last May I couldn't imagine finishing a 5K!!
Does anyone know when the website will be available to book room ressies? We don't have a trip planned this year, and I'm anxious to get another ticker set up(I know I can call, but I just like doing it online...)
