Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

How often are there Characters? Every couple of miles or so? I wondering if that's a good way to incorporate walk/rest intervals?

Is anyone who was planning on signing up for the Glass Slipper Challenge now on the fence with the announcement of the Rebel Challenge?

With them being so close together, and my running Wine and Dine in November, I'm not sure if I should be dropping another $400 for roundtrip flight from Cali to Florida within such a short amount of time.

Looking for someone to tell me to go for it and that I'm not totally delusional if I want to do both. ;)

I have a question for all the interval runners. Are there any "rules" about how to run intervals? I'm finding that I can run 3-4 miles straight, and then if I take a walk break for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile, I can get my "second wind" and start running again. I'm just not sure if that's a good way to go about it. Would I be better off running a mile, walking a mile, and so on? I'm thinking mostly in terms of heart rate changes and/or possible injuries. I haven't researched this much, so thought I'd ask the expert Dis'ers :goodvibes

There is no set rule for me, whatever works. Today, I ran for 45 minutes straight. Then I took a walk break to eat some of my power bar. Then, the plan became four minute run/one minute walk. I don't know how well I stuck with that, but near the end it became a one minute walk/run ratio. I know that's not a 100% accurate, because at points, it was a two or three minute run to one minute walk. The one thing I try to maintain is the ten minute interval for refueling.

Trial and Error is the best way to find the best run walk break ratio for you. A lot of runners do really well with short runs followed by short walks. Ultimately it is about the ration of run to walk break. The ratio should really be based on your overall pace. Generally speaking you only really see the benefit of the walking for the first minute or so but you will see the slow down from longer running segments longer.

Everyone is different. I recommend trying out several things from running longer to trying walk breaks more frequently from the beginning of a run and see what allows you to go faster and feel better at the end.

I'm still playing with my ratios. Some days I will run 2:1 some days I will do 2:30/1:15 and others 1/30. I've also done 2:30/1 and 1:15/30 to some success but that doesn't work well on hot days. Some days I'll pull mile repeats and run for a mile and walk for 3-5 minutes. I'm still working on the best race pace. I play with my intervals on Tuesdays when I practice speed work and race pace.

FrenchSnowWhite: I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure you will be able to complete both the 5K and 10K in memory of your Mom. You can do it!

Thanks Jdd!

This event just took a different meaning for me because my mom just past away suddendly from a heart attack 2 weeks ago :sad1:
She would have been so proud of me getting to do the 5 & 10K so for her I will try my very best to do both races.

I am so sorry! Big hugs for peace, comfort, and healing. Use this to inspire your run and you will be awesome.

I saw a LOT of Galloway runners at this year's Princess HM - they seemed to be doing great!

My only complaint with Galloway/interval runners at races is when the timer goes off and it's time for them to walk, they stop right then & there, and I nearly run smack dab into their backs! So please, if you choose to do intervals on race day, be mindful of the other runners on the course and make your way to the side before walking. :) I wish there was an audio cue in the app for that!

I think this goes both ways...runners can be just as bad...

Not all of us do that...my biggest complaint is when you are practically off the road as far as you can and some runner comes by you and complains and either pushes you completely off the road or says not so nice things...this happened more times than I care to count during ToT and I was in the last couple of corrals...seriously if you are that great of a runner then why the heck are you back here with me.

I try to be very respectful to runners in all races that I do and realize that most of them are out for times...so I always line up in the back and try to run as far to the outside as I can...

I think you just have to really find what works for you. I keep playing with my intervals during just regular everyday runs....right now I am doing a 1 min run/30 sec walk. During races I try to tell myself that I am going to run a certain way and my intervals are never well done in reality because each race has certain challenges and issues because of the course. On longer races like 10K I tend to settle down after the 5K mark and get into a pretty good interval ususally 30/30.

When you do your intervals do you keep your eyes on your watch or do you use a something to keep track?
Thanks

I use my garmin which vibrates for me on intervals. You can also use apps on your phone or the gymboss timer if you dont want to invest in new technology.

Love your picture of the mexican martini those would be worth running for! Sure do miss Trudys and Austin.

I use an interval timer I bought on Jeff Galloway's site. It was $19.99 and it clips to your waistband (or you can purchase a wristband to attach it to). It can beep, vibrate or both! I love it and you can set intervals for whatever you want-very easy to use.

in the half, there are characters at least every mile or so after the first two miles. some miles have multiple characters, 3-4 at the most i think. although i feel like this past year they were lacking from the end of MK - mile 8.

in the 5k and 10k, there was little to no entertainment/characters before you got to epcot. i think there were one or two meetable characters on the 10k (not including elsa, standing above us all on an overpass), and one on the 5k, but that was it. the lack of spread on the characters meant for very long lines once they started showing up.

it could be a good way for you to do your intervals, but it depends on the line. i waited five minutes to see mary poppins/bert/penguin, and i know some others are just as long (the villains, royal mickey/minnie, cinderella/charming. my practice is to only take pictures with those i've not met in the parks, and all others i just pause and snap a photo :)

Thanks to everyone with comments on the intervals!!! I'm going to spend some time this summer figuring out what works for me. I think I'll plan for my shorter runs to be all running, and then try out the walk breaks on the longer runs.

I'm just so excited to even be considering this since last May I couldn't imagine finishing a 5K!!

Does anyone know when the website will be available to book room ressies? We don't have a trip planned this year, and I'm anxious to get another ticker set up :goodvibes (I know I can call, but I just like doing it online...)

That's what I try to do; shorter runs, all running and longer runs, walk breaks as I mentally need them. I don't know when online reservations opens for 2015, but I just checked, the last month available to select is December 2014.
