Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Hello all!

This will be my first ever Half Marathon and I am so excited. I cannot wait to officially register! I will also be a support runner for my mom who will be running her first ever 5K!

We have a room booked at Old Key West with my aunt and cousin most likely going to join us for the 5K.

I'm sure I will have many questions as the time draws closer. I am so glad I found this board!

Good for you and your mother!
My first half marathon was in Disney...during marathon weekend. I cannot think of a better place to start than Disney!
I have never ran the Princess but want to next year....so I am waiting for registration to open.
I would love to stay in the Poly...but we will see.

Someone corrected me on that a few years ago. Never put 'only' before anything you do!

Last year on this board people were writing...I am only doing a half, I am only doing a full and even I am only doing the Goofy!!!
Whatever you do...good for you! No only.

I love this! We are so tempted to minimize our accomplishments, but whether a 5K or a full marathon or a challenge, getting out there and meeting our goals is the most important and impressive thing we can do!

Did anyone buy the medal pin for the 2014 and if so could you post a pic please....it's the one with the blue ribbon TIa

It was one of those moments I will always remember. It was marathon weekend a few years ago and I had ran (mostly walk) my first half marathon ever. It was also the first race I had ran since h.s. (almost 30 years earlier).

I was in Disney for a few days after the half...so I was there to see the full and cheer them on.

That night I was on a bus going to Disney Village. I saw a guy with a Goofy medal on and we started talking...I was so impressed with anyone that did a Goofy...to me...that was unthinkable. To be frank, even a year earlier .... a half marathon was unthinkable.

As we were talking (I was not wearing my medal) he asked what I had done and I answered by saying 'I only did a half marathon' because I felt it was so small next to something so big like a Goofy....and he corrected me. Stating never put 'only' before anything...nothing.

One of those life lessons we get from total strangers we meet in passing.

How awesome! Thank you for that.

Exactly, that is such a wonderful and sage advice. What ever you are doing be proud of THAT accomplishment!!!

My husband and I are going to run the 2015 Royal Family 5K. I'm wondering if I should book the resort after I register (same day) or wait until a few months out in case there is a room promotion/discount available? Or, are the runDisney weekends an exception to any room promotions?

If you know you want a certain resort you could book now and apply the promotion/discount to the reservation later.

Are any of the dinners, breakfast, etc worth doing. This may be a once in a life time trip but everything is so expensive. My husband and two kids will be with me (9 and 5)

Since I will be going by myself early in the morning I was thinking the monorail would be best but is there a lot of princess 1/2 activities going on around the Boardwalk/Beach Club area? Our home resort is AKV so I may not have much of a choice though.

One character meal is enough for me -- I like Crystal Palace bc you can get in early, take photos, eat and still be ahead of the crowd. Not a lot going on around BW. I think one of the coolest food experiences is the dessert party - not too pricey but get the full wishes/fireworks experience.

Whoops - guess you know all that - parties for PHM are not that great IMHO. Do your favorite things.

We stayed at the Dolphin this year during Princess. I didn't see any activities there. The only thing we saw was the special deals after the race at Downtown Disney. I think it was 10 or 20% off food at raglan road after 2, and some other deals. But you had to be wearing your medal.
The biggest down fall with staying at the boardwalk resorts was the many bus stops in the morning. That got kind of old on day 3.

I used to book rooms ahead of time and then apply the discounts. Now, my philosophy is to wait until a discount is released and then book. At this time, I don't know how many of us there will be and we aren't too picky as far as resorts go.

I will book my room when 2015 rates are released.

Veteran Princesses

It looks as thought I might be doing the run on my own with family meeting me at the end. So I am wondering about taking pictures with characters along the way. Is there a cast member there to take a picture for you? Do they utilize photopass at all in MK? Do most people use there phones for pics? Thanks in advance.

No Photopass, but there were CMs at every character (sometimes 2 CMs per character, even) to take pics with your camera. At other spots that make for good photos, such as mile markers, you'll find plenty of other runners wanting to do the same thing, so offer to take the pic of the Princess in line in front of you, and ask the Princess behind you to take yours! I used my iPhone for pics last year and it was very easy to manage; I kept it in an armband for stretches of running with no pics, then held it in my hand when I stopped for a few pics in a row.
