Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

I think it's about time I start upping my mileage. I typically stick to around the 3 mile mark during the hot summer months, so that's like my sweet spot, and in fall/winter my sweet spot is more around 5-6 miles. After this morning's 3-miler, my boss saw me and said, "You don't run very far, right? Only 3 miles?". :headache: ONLY three miles? Come on dude, gimme some credit. At least I'm out there!

Has he ever run 3 miles? People who say things like that are usually people who have never run or who ran in high school and haven't since.

I'm seriously bummed out. I got my big toe crushed at work this morning. Spend the morning at the clinic getting x-rays. Thank goodness it is not broken but it is badly bruised, and they think the nail might be gone permanently.

I just started week 7 of couch to 5k. This is definitely going to mess my training up for a few weeks at least.:mad:

I think he should be invited out for that 3 miles...

We just booked the Fireworks Dessert Party for our last night :goodvibes I feel like it's something special that is actually somewhat affordable too! We are also hoping to do the Flying Fish Chef's Table maybe the night after the race, so just waiting for that to open up.

I'm still just at 5 miles, I figure I have lots of time to build up slowly, so I'm trying not to get ahead of myself!

Ugh, I hope your toe heals quickly!

In my opinion, there's no such thing as running "just" any distance- running a mile is better than nothing! People who say things like that most likely haven't run 3 miles any time recently...because it can be HARD (especially in the summer!)

I've had a wicked mental block going since the last race I did (7 miles on 8/17)...I took 9 days off to rest, then ran 2.5 miles on tuesday and it was pretty miserable- felt like my body had just forgotten how to run! I got out there again tonight and ran 4.5 miles with lots of help from my coach! I've got my first half marathon coming up in october so I was starting to panic that I wouldn't be able to do the weekend long runs...time to clear my mind of "can't" and make room for positive thoughts!

Hope everyone is having a great week- it's almost the weekend! :cheer2:

@HockeyMomNH - Oh no! I hope you heal quickly! At least it's not broken, right? Foot troubles are no fun at all. I always lose the nail on the second toe of my left foot after every race longer than 10 miles. It's gotten to the point where all that's there is a little flimsy baby nail. I still paint it when I give myself a pedicure, but it looks ridiculous, lol. I've come to accept the fact that I most likely will never have a normal nail on that toe again. War wounds!!

Congratulations on your run. My plan is seven miles, tomorrow. I get so nervous when I do long runs, don't know why. I've run seven miles, I don't know how many times, so it's not the ability to do it that makes me nervous. It's just weird. As for ADRs, I booked The Wave for Monday morning. We don't have a resort reservation, holding out for a discount. Some of the group have airfare round trip, others have just a one way ticket. Some of the tickets are down only, others tickets are for one way out of MCO. #whateverworks

Hey, I'm doing seven today too :) Only my second time for that long of a run, so hoping for the best. It's a beautiful, cool morning here though - so looking forward to it :thumbsup2

Ran two miles before finishing the last five at the high school track. Then, I walked an additional mile home at a pace of 14:25. There are four of us doing a quarter marathon in October. My niece and sister are running it for the qualifying race.

Fantastic!! My friend (who is joining me for the Half :cheer2:) and I did 7.28 miles today. The .28 extra was because it was a new trail and I kind of messed up , but I figure that will make our jump to 8 miles next week that much easier :thumbsup2

I've never even heard of a quarter marathon - that's cool. Our qualifying race is a 10K at the end of September - looking forward to getting past that hurdle!

Who's doing a long run this weekend? I'm aiming for 8 miles tomorrow- this will be my longest distance so far! Sticking with 9 minutes running/1 minute walking and I'm meeting up with my wonderful running group for the last 3 miles...fingers crossed that my hip injury behaves itself! It seemed to finally be in check for my two shorter runs this week :)

Way to go!! I'm still building a good foundation after an overuse injury from the spring. I am doing a long run but only for 1:15. I'll be lucky if I do 5 miles. But I'm running so far for 5 weeks with no pain, so I'll take it!

Good luck to everyone with the long runs!

I ran 10 Wednesday, but that was in preparation for a 1/2 I have in 2weeks. Good luck all on your training.

I made it through the 8 miles this morning in 1:40 so I'll take it! Afterwards I had the chills for hours...does anyone else get this? I haven't had it in ages, not since I started bringing diluted emergen-c with me to drink on my runs but it struck with a vengeance again today. I was on the couch bundled up with a hoodie, a fleece blanket, and a heated blanket turned on high for an hour before I finally felt normal again! Between that and the nausea that hits me after every run that goes over an hour, I was useless for the rest of the morning :confused3: But I'm focusing on the fact that I finished the run! 8 weeks from today is the Cape Cod Half Marathon!

Did you take off your wet clothes and take a shower after your long run ? I found when I didn't take a shower right away after a long run and then was inside the car or house with A/C I got chilled immediately. Try having water and Gatorade or another sports drink during long runs. Hope this helps as it seemed to help me.

I had a ten minute drive home but took a shower as soon as I got home. It was a cool morning (~50 degrees) so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it...I carry emergen-c in my water bottle because I can't stomach gatorade on runs but I don't think I drank as much as usual...A couple of people have told me to try Nuun as an electrolyte supplement so I might switch to that before my next run and see if it works better than the emergen-c :)

I finally found electrolyte pills as I can't stomach Gatorade and other drinks. I take 2 the night before a long run, 2 in the morning before I start, & 2 every hour I run. In addition I carry Motts fruit snacks and eat 1/2 every 30 minutes. I try to eat within 30 minutes of finishing a run an hour or longer. My nausea and chills used to happen on runs 2 hours or longer but I haven't haf a problem since I started this routine. I also make sure I hydrate the couple days before a long run and eat a half a PB sandwich when I wake up. It's taken a lot of trial and error. Good luck.

I've only gotten chills when I ran in the pouring rain. I will say though that I cannot stress enough how important proper hydration is. I drink Smart Water during and coconut water after. On runs longer than 1 hour, I eat 5 Honey Stinger chews every 30 minutes. It just takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what works for you.
