Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Just cancelled my room for Princess. So bummed I won't be a Glass Slipper legacy runner. Stupid life getting in the way of Disney plans!

This year and last year, yep. "Who is ONLY doing the Half?" at the corral starts over and over and over. You can hear "only" and "just" a finite number of times before you start to lose it, just a bit. Maybe that's why I enjoyed the Wine&Dine (despite the torrents of rain) and the TOT I did better, because there was no challenge for them to go on and on about?

I haven't been to princess weekend before so I don't know about the challenge exactly, but I will say I have heard them say "its only 3 miles!" or only 10 or whatever, with a heavy dose of sarcasm. I took it as its "only" 3 long crazy people miles and it is an accomplishment because hey I can't do that, not so much a downgrade.

Running is almost exclusively an individual sport. Your motivation comes from inside of you. Most of your training is done alone, and only other runners can appreciate your journey. That is why runners are so supportive of one another. We get it, and we learn that it is okay that others do not. But don't look for offense where no offense is intended, and Disney clearly does not mean to offend here. They are trying to get you excited about YOUR race. So, even if their words are not what you would have chosen, take them for what they are meant. Only you can give words power over you. Give them power - but make it positive.

Rejoice in your efforts and accomplishments. Run for the joy of it.

I'm sorry :(

Ugh. Just when I learned how to multi-quote Dis updates and now I don't know how to anymore! Thank you for your kind sympathy. My husband is stupid but I am strong.

Please, I didn't mind to grind the thread to a halt! Continue talking about the travel plans and worrying about flights being cancelled in the snow! Thanks for giving me a moment to vent. On with the scheduled programming!

I have thought about you off and on all evening…I don't have any words of wisdom, but it was very sad news. And I hope the best for you and hope that you have people close to you to support and love on you. And putting you children before your needs shows such love. Sending you a hug and hope that you can make it back to the Princess half another year.

pxefig: I am so sorry. This is a tough situation that can make you question yourself and damage your self-esteem, but remember that you are not the spouse who has a problem with who you are. I suggest you seek a counselor to help you get through it emotionally and a lawyer who can help you protect yourself and your children. You can run this race just like you can run Disney. You are strong, no matter what comes your way!

:grouphug: Don't feel bad about venting. I'm so sorry to hear about your family troubles. Stay strong. There will be other races.

Thanks, all. I'm sure the Princess half isn't going anywhere. I'll just look for something local to get the training payoff I suppose.
I didn't realize they were adding new styles to the New Balance. How odd they didn't have them for the marathon weekend.

Getting so excited for next weekend. I wish that I had booked more time, but next time. I have to finish my shirt and go for a run tomorrow. I am a nerd too and working on matching skirts for my daughter and I. I hope that everyone has safe travel.

I'm afraid to go for a run on the ice, and we're about to get another blizzard (is the rest of the country as tired of hearing us talk about snow as we are of talking about it?) so I'm afraid my final training is kind of non existent. I know we're supposed to taper before the race, but I guess I'm just uber-tapering.

Anyone with IT band issues.....are you running any leading up to the race? I tried 6 miles (going for 10) last weekend and it hurt like the dickens. Haven't run since then as I've been getting twinges on occasion. Used ice and have been taking naproxen twice a day but its killing me to not do any running. Haven't run any long runs in a month. Can't decide if I should test it out with an IT Band strap or leave until race day....

I probably either wouldn't run, or just do a mile ish, if it were me. And even if you don't test it before the race, I highly recommend the IT band! I had 0 discomfort and it helped immediately. Worst cases scenario - you take it off during the race if it bugs you. GL!

Here now guys - not so much with the warm! Brr

It has to be better than 6 degrees with a Real Feel of -20. There is a wind chill advisory, in my neck of the woods, until 10 am tomorrow for 20 to 30 below zero.

I gave up running outside about a month ago. My last two outside runs were at 18 degrees. I don't mind the cold too much when I am running, but the snow is a problem!

I had IT band issues in the last few weeks before the WDW Half (my first half). I decided not to run after it hurt a lot. My last run before the WDW Half (on Jan. 10) was on Xmas day. I did lots of yoga (about 4-5 classes per week). The yoga help me keep up my leg strength without hurting the IT band.

That's good to know. I have done yoga for a while so I'll keep it up daily until I leave...every bit helps I guess. Hopefully the cardio will be enough to get me to the finish.
