Official 2017 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

Can we talk fairy wings? Anyone have any advise from wing-wearing experience from previous Tink races? Anyone have any recs for places to purchase wings that worked well for you. I don't plan to be running hard, but still running at a good clip maybe off an on. Something not-lime-green might be where I'm heading so would likely have to be not disneystore.

Thanks! And I realize its still so early but I thought with Halloween stuff going on clearance now might be a good time to think about it.

I'm interesting in this response as well! I have found some good pointers on how to attach wings to your shirt rather than wear them around your shoulders, but not much on actual wing styles or places to purchase.

I'm pretty anti-fairy wings, so no recommendations from me. :) I would only ask that whatever you buy not stick out to the sides very much so that fellow runners don't get whacked!

So you're saying I should return these?

OMG I'm cracking up. Yes, I think those wings may be too big @ZellyB

No offense taken. I'm not decided on wings vs no wings yet. Any cons to wearing them are as welcome as advise for wearing them. I'm an undecided winger.

Though I have a feeling I will get some and bring them and last minute ditch them (just knowing myself) and then be annoyed that I packed them.

But at least now I know to be on the defensive for wing-poking from other runners, right?

We ran with wings for the 10K - I just bought cheapie ones from the Dollar Tree from the kids section (they had pink, purple, green and blue). If you wear them with the elastic straps around your arms like a backpack (the way kids wear them), you're fine.

I tried to be fancy and safety-pinned them according to Sparkle Athletic's directions ... they were wonky by .5 mile and on the ground shortly after Mile 1. At least I can check that off the bucket list now.

I saw that on their site...I thought most of the wings had the straps you mention. Safety pinning seems like a good way to ruin a shirt. :confused3

Stay hard, pink fairy wings. #NeverForget

ETA: You can see B still wearing hers - bottom-left picture - to give you an idea of the size. This was at the end of the 10K: http://disboards.com/threads/two-do...7-a-wdw-marathon-weekend-ptr-ud-10-7.3552019/

Ok, those look like a good size vs the huge sticky outy ones. And good to know about the safety pin fail. Maybe I'll go the route of investing only dollar store type money in case I need to send them to fairy wing heaven. #allfairywingsgotoheaven

Yeah, mine died on the streets of Anaheim. The pairs that made it back to the hotel got to live with Mousekeeping at PPH.

I am wondering the same thing. People say you shouldn't try anything new at a race so I am a bit leery of changing things up.

Personally - I follow that for food/fuel/hydration.

For clothing/costuming - my rule is pretty much "Don't wear anything you aren't willing to leave behind".

I ran in wings for the first couple of Tink 1/2's. I purchased the Tinker Bell green light up wings from the park. I did have to adjust the arm straps, well my handy Mom did, and made we made it more custom for me to move. They still work after all these years and I actually wore them for the 5K this year.
It is a good time to try and find costume stuff right now with Halloween approaching. There are so many options to choose from. I believe a couple of venders were even selling them at the expo this past year. I think everyone needs to "fly" with wings at least once for this race. :)

Good ideas for purchasing and testing now. Testing clothing is also important. I found out the hard way that you do not want to learn that your pants are too large during a run. :o

So, don't wear pants :D

I actually PR'd last weekend in my baggy backside capris for a 5k surprisingly, but I fear I'd have not lasted past 4 miles without it being a "show."
It's the one time pants being too big is not a good problem to have.

I've been stalking the rundisney site to see when Chear Squad would finally open for registration for my sister and I noticed in the commemorative section:
