Maybe someone can help me with this...I have a res through a TA, but she seems unwilling to help get FD so I'm gonna try myself. I have an MDE account and all, but can I modify or get a whole new res for FD if my MDE is linked to this res held by a TA? TIA
If I had a TA who was unwilling to help you to get Free dining I would stalk this site, get up at 4am, grab what you want and then cancel with the TA. She/he doesn't derseve your business.

I will have 2 in high school and one in junior high in the fall. We took them out last year to go to WDW during November. We arranged everything beforehand with their schools. When we got back we received letters from the district saying we could no longer take them out because 5 days is considered excessive absences. Unfortunately it seems the FD dates don't match up with any school breaks.

our schools sent out the same notice recently. only time we will be able to take the kids on a vacation are summer (too hot), Christmas (too busy), February and April vacations (too expensive). Not sure what we will do, no Fall breaks in our state.
Our school district is the same way and my kids missed 8 days last year for Disney. I simply told the school that my busy time at work is april until January. If adults get holidays off and earn vacation time, why can't responsible students? They are my kids, I choose when they go on vacation. I don't think they were happy with me:scared:

Homeschool. That's what we do. :woohoo:
That is what we do as well. It frees up more time that the kids can be involved in extra things. I have five kids and a master in education...so it just seemed natural.
We homeschool as well. It works for us and we get to travel often. Our son loves it.

We homeschool too and we love that we can go to Disney for 2 weeks during the slower time of the year.

Good for you! I don't think I could get away with it.

Woohoo my change reservation button is back too! I've checked about 10 times today and it just popped back up!

Our school hasn't harassed me to much about them missing. We had AP's for disneyland last year and we went a lot!! My girls teachers just said have fun, but my sons teacher (he was in 3rd grade) would send about 14 pages front and back of work for him to do. I figure as long as they continue to get good grades (all 3 are straight A students) and don't miss all the time, I'm gonna take them out when I want :)

I think that's what I'll be doing. I got the TA to make getting FD easier, but I guess I'm on my own anyway.

Im confused:I already booked under MDE for POR and already have DP added. When FD promo drops what do I do?? Do I need to call or is it automatically applied? Or do I click on modify although I dont need to modify the resort since im booked there already? ?

Yes you click on modify or call. In essence, if there is availability for your resort and room type you are modifying to a new reservation with free dining. It will not be automatically added. Be prepared to possibly change room type or resorts. Sometimes fd is extremely limited.

Or I can cancel it and rebook it right or would that be redundant? Either way dont I have to pay the increased ticket prices?

If you have the modify button and that works, that would be easiest because all of the info is already in there, but yes you can book a new ressie and cancel the existing one. And yes, you will have to pay the increased ticket prices.

This happened to us about 5 years ago. Through our attorney, we threatened to sue our school if they bothered us again about this matter. They stopped.

We have taken our boys out of school for vacation every year of their lives. My oldest is now 20 and in college. My youngest is now a Junior in HS. They both get awesome grades, take AP classes, score very well on the SATs, etc.

They are my kids, not the state's. I decide how to best educate them, and having a well-rounded life is a part of that education. What a student learns outside of the classroom is so much more important than what is learned in the classroom. Most teachers get it. It seems to only be school administrators who don't get it, and it is probably about $$$, not the kids.

agree 100%.

School truancy laws are a joke (I've taught in MD and NY). Legally if you miss a lot of days you will receive a letter and possibly a meeting with a PPW. These laws encourage you to lie and say your child was sick so this way it's an excused absence. In all my years of teaching I've never actually heard of anyone being fined or sent to court for taking a vacation! As long as the parent makes sure that work is made up and the student doesn't fall behind vacation on!

No. Wait, what? I've never heard of this happening. What state do you live in?
NH's been like this for many years now. I had several arguments with my school district over the issue when my kids were small.

I think it's crazy for our school district to tell me I cannot take my children on vacation! Most of the FD offers do not line up with vacation breaks.
I spoke to my children's physician, and she just wrote me a note. It was a workaround.

Did you make your reservation online or did you book through a travel agent or Disney representative? If you book online yourself you will have a modify button and a cancel button. If you booked through an agent or Disney representative you will not be able to change your reservation, but you will have to call Disney or the travel agent to change it.

So curious if this is correct. Just because everyone else is commenting on it. I booked online myself and have a modify/change button.
