Official 2017 D23 Expo Thread

Whoa that seems excessively early! Can you let us know what time people HAVE to get in line? We are going in 2019, and while I really want to see the parks panel, the live action panel runs a close second, and I hear the parks one isn't that hard to get in to. If we have to get in line at 3 AM I don't think we will bother.

I believe people are still getting in now ok.

Was it necessary? Turns out no. But I wasn't going to take the chance.

Especially with all the guaranteed wristbands given to the animation people who didn't get in yesterday.

It's got to be tough to decide what to do and what are "must dos" - I do think the parks and resorts would be amazing to be in but also probably crazy popular this year. I think if you execute your plan and get to the Live Action panel and meet Auli'i Cravalho and get to the Kiss Goodnight panel with Richard Sherman that would be a pretty darn good day I think

The Dream store is the one that has the expo exclusive merchandise right? Is there anything special at the Disney Store? (I am getting confused between what store is what I think)

That's great you got to Mickey's of Glendale with only 15 min wait. I think of the shopping opportunities that would be my priority - and where I would spend way, way too much money. Did you get anything really cool/special?

Yes, Mickey's of Glendale is Imagineering. You gotta check my Instagram pic (rjrook) I got a society of explorers t-shirt.

Dream store is more expo type stuff but it also has the ride and Epcot anniversary stuff.

Disney store has all the exclusive dolls and stuff people camp out for.

Thanks for the summary - just looked at your post (Instagram is one platform I am not on regularly) and really like what you got - the SEA shirt is pretty tremendous. I like the imagineering t-shirt too

just out of curiosity - what time do people line up for the Parks panel? Is that a campe overnight too?

Not allowed to line up until our panel is loaded.

Traditionally if you get in line before live action is out you're good.

@OhioStateBuckeye - Now what? Do you sleep in the exhibition hall? That seems so insane that you have to be there SEVEN HOURS before it starts!!!

We're just hanging out. Some people are sleeping but they're playing rogue one and it's getting livelier.

That sounds fun!

Just trying to figure out how this works - did you get in line to get a wristband for the panel? And now you have it, you are just in the main hallways/convention space w/ Rogue One playing. Then, they'll let you know when it is time to line up for the actual panel?

You go thru security at the doors. Then you go downstairs to a giant room.

Pick your section in arena, left right or center.

Get a wristband at the barrier, go inside and sit inside your row.

Once you get your spot established you can move around. There are bathrooms, water fountains and food down here.

Your wristband gets you back past the barrier to the waiting area if you leave to get food or bathroom.

I believe traditionally the parks panel is not nearly as hard to get into as the live action panel. It's hard to believe since we are all Disney Parks nerds here, but a lot more people want to see Robert Downey Junior than Joe Rohde.

That is good news. I am thinking 2019 we will maybe try for the Animation Panel on Friday and the Park Panel on Saturday. Was the animation panel the same way...no line up until the Legends let in? The live action panel would be extremely cool, but no way I'm standing in line for 8 hours at 3 in the AM with my wife and daughter. Parks Panel will be top priority, though there's a good chance the announcements in 2019 might not be a plentiful as this year. (Though I think Disney learned it's lesson from 2015 and they are always going to save some good stuff for D23.)

Yes animation is handled the same. No lining up until legends is loaded.

Animation was soooo much fun. All the live songs and appearances and trailers.

The one problem I have with the Wreck-It-Ralph release of the princess scene is that they are likely giving away a BIG moment in the movie.

Agree I don't want to open up another debate, but will again argue that there's a difference between booing a person and booing what they say. If Marty Sklar comes out on stage and says at the end of a 10-minute presentation. "I love Adolf Hitler" he's should get booed. Now of course he wouldn't do that, but what he's talking about angers people quite a bit, and they responded. If my boss comes out during a town hall meeting and says "No raises next year", he's likely to get some boos. Maybe not because he's the boss - but you get my point.

Back to the regular scheduled discussion.
Really? I wouldn't boo my boss because that would be really unprofessional. And lack of raises is also really common in my profession, so it wouldn't be boo worthy. :)

I don't know...to me "booing" a speaker for any reason kind of lacks class.

Since I'm bored in line I'll share my somewhat amusing wake up story.

So we had planned to wake up and meet friends at the con center at 330.

I woke up before my alarm and checked my phone and saw a text from the other friends that they were hearing admission wasn't guaranteed at this point and we needed to go (this was like 245). So I jumped out of bed, flipped on all the lights and started shouting 'we need to go now!!'. To their credit, everyone else was of bed in a few seconds and we were at the con entrance at 307.

It was a pretty impressive cold start, if I do say so myself.

We'd been planning on a 330 arrival, and the line shut down a bit before 4. So maybe it was a good thing we got up a bit early.

Not saying it's classy, just part of being a public presenter. (And I DID admit my boss analogy wasn't very good. Maybe you only boo him/her behind their back.)

Then I think that's how we'll handle it. Plan on animation and parks. Both probably start lining up at 10 AM or so? If we have a group of 3, can 1 person get out of the line to get food / go to the bathroom / look around? Or does everyone have to be there for every second? (And thanks for answering my questions!)

I admire your dedication. Go bucks!

Yes, 10 I believe. Just check when legends and live action start.

There is a big open space waiting area downstairs that we're in.

You enter, 3/4 of the space is behind a temp barrier. You choose center, left or right and enter. You'll get a wristband, then enter your line that is taped off on the floor.

Once you have your wristband and your space established you can leave the barrier area, there are bathrooms, water fountains and some concession stands. You show wristband to get back in.

People do leave and go upstairs for food or other things on the show floor, but it's not 100% you can get back even with a band.

That's very helpful. Last question: Can you get a cell signal down there?
