Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

Well, I did it. I managed to hurt myself! Luckily, it is not very bad and I hope I will be fine for the race. Posterior shin splints. They are not bad, no pain walking, just pretty sore after my run. I had my last long run of 10 miles scheduled for tomorrow. Not sure how I am going to handle that. I am going to keep off of it today, kt tape it, foam roll my calves, and maybe attempt to get a run in tomorrow still. If it hurts at all I am just going to go straight home. But I figure that way I can just rest it all the way up to the race to be sure. Ever since my great IT injury of 2013 I tend to panic at the first sign of any pain :)

SO EXCITED for these races though!

FWIW I had the same issue after my 11 miler a couple of weeks ago. I wrestled with it a bit and decided I'd rather go in healthy and a little under trained than the other way around. Took a little time and just did some light runs and biking to sort of keep the motor running. It was pretty frustrating to cut out the last couple of long runs, but I'm sure I'll feel much better about it when I wake up at 3am on race day....well maybe not o_O

Hang in there - and good luck!

Any info on getting swept during a 10k? I know it's a "timed race", but how strict is it?
Some of the group isn't as prepared as we had hoped for & terrified about getting picked up! Are the 'balloon people' at the back of each corral & pick up right away, or just the very last one?

We figure that if need be, walk..but it's not a 16min/mile walk, unfortunately.

16 minutes kicks in when the last person crosses the starting line. That person is always the kindly balloon ladies. They will go at a 16/min mpace, so you only have to worry if you fall behind them. They are very nice I hear though, and I believe unofficial helpers. So you will not see them anywhere else but crossing last.

I'm not sure where the sweep points are this year, but my *guess* is you're fine.

With the boardwalk pinch point, as long as you're close to 16 min/mile you're good.

It depends on who does the telling... Sometimes a non-runDisney cast member will get their info wrong. Actually, that happens a lot. While they haven't made it very clear, it does appear only 1 combination medal at a time. (For example, you may not want the pink C2C after Tink/Princess, but you're stuck with it.)

Oh, and sweet avatar. RTR!!
Thanks! can't take credit though....another poster let me borrow it years ago. RTR!!

I think there would need to be a 3rd race in the calendar year to get the blue C2C medal. :confused3

That's what rundisney told me....but you never know with them... I signed up for Wine & Dine for this very reason. Fortunately they're not making me run again in Cali this year to get my C2C so that's something :)

This is how I read the RunDisney website too. It's my understanding I'll get the Kessel medal at the Dark Side and the "regular" C2C at Tink which I'm super happy they're doing because of course I need both medals! Hahaha

So I called today because I'm doing the 5k and my friend works 9:30am-7pm on the first day of the expo. I was told that my friend can go and pick up her packet the day of the race, starting two hours before the race and to be there early because the line will be long. Is there truth to this?

We almost didn't make the expo for the marathon due to a delayed flight and rumors were this is actually offered but not advertised for every race.

Yes. She needs her signed waiver and Id.

She'll still need to go to the expo to get her shirt ...

Unless she pays the $39 vip pickup ... Which may be the next new thing.

Thanks!

I think the VIP pickup is only for the 10k and half.

Ok, corral question... In Anaheim I remember seeing some portapotties out by the corrals. For those that have done Orlando, do they do the same or are there just the ones in the staging area? Thanks!

There were portopotties alongside the corrals in Orlando during the Princess Weekend runs. I can't imagine why they wouldn't do the same for Star Wars Weekend.

It's a long walk from the EPCOT staging area to the starting corrals. There will be portapotties along the route as well as plenty of them once you get out to the corral area.

Where do most people warm up and stretch before the races? Is there room in the staging area?

I see people warm up (run) alongside the corrals. I am a mid pack runner, typically in F. I stay moving (wandering around) in the staging area and use my walk to the corrals as a warm up and then I stretch while I am in the corral before we start to move towards the start line.

I know there are kids races Friday and Saturday. A friend of mine told me shes going to take her kid to Friday's kids races because you can go to either day (???). My active account has my son listed for Saturday, April 16, kids race.

Anyone care to enlighten me? I thought you were assigned a day, not get to pick one.

My kids bibs from the Mickey Mile at Marathon Weekend do have the day on them. That being said, there really was no one checking to make sure you were there on the proper day. Since the Mickey Mile is timed, I suppose results might be messed up if kids ran on the wrong day.
